DWIGHT A CLARK - 18 yo - Bellingham WA
Police here are searching for an 18-year-old Western Washington University student from Auburn who has been missing since a weekend party in Bellingham.
Bellingham Police say Dwight A. Clark was last seen leaving the party about 2 a.m. Sunday.
He did not return to his dorm room, and his car was found parked in a university lot.
Police spokesman Mark Young said Clark is a straight-A student who regularly exchanges text messages with friends and family, but he hasn't responded to texts since Saturday night.
"I need my baby home," said the missing student's mother, Raelyn Clark. "He's never done this before, never."
The missing teen is said to stand 6 feet and 2 inches tall, and weigh approximately 160 pounds. Family members said he graduated with honors from Auburn High School.
"It makes no sense for him to just disappear. He doesn't know enough people up here to go anywhere," Raelyn Clark said. "The people he was with - those are the people he knows up here."
Police say there were several violent assaults that occurred near campus over the weekend, including a man on a bicycle who was attacked by other men brandishing baseball bats. Detectives are looking into a possible connection between those crimes and Dwight Clark's disappearance.
"We do get a lot of missing persons reports throughout the year. What makes this unusual is that he's a freshman new to the area, straight a student, (and this is) behavior that is not normal for him," said police spokesman Mark Young.
Dwight Clark moved into his dorm room less than a week and a half ago.His roommate says nothing seemed out of the ordinary. His car remains parked outside his residence hall, serving as another indication to police and family members that something is horribly wrong.
"Somebody knows where my baby is at, where he's at. I need him. I need him home," said Raelyn Clark.
The concerned mother, along with other family members and friends set on Tuesday to search the area for any clues.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the safe return of Dwight Clark. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Re: DWIGHT A CLARK - 18 yo - Bellingham WA
Police and family members continue to search for an 18-year-old Western Washington University student who’s been missing since a weekend party in Bellingham.
Police say Dwight Clark, from Auburn, was last seen leaving the party about 2 a.m. Sunday walking down a street. He never made it back to his dorm room and his car was found parked in a university lot.
Clark had just arrived on campus as a freshman.
Police said the off campus party Clark was at was also the scene of a fight outside the house.
A student who lives nearby said he saw a fought outside the house with people shouting back and forth but police do not know if Dwight was involved.
Clark’s mother, frantic with worry, is in Bellingham to search for her son. She said he’s a responsible teen who’s always using his cell phone to stay in touch with family and friends but on Sunday the calls from his phone stopped.
Clark is 6'2" tall, weighs 160 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a pink tie-died V-neck T-shirt, blue jeans and black Nike athletic shoes.
The Bellingham Police Department is offering a $1000 reward for any information that could help find Clark.

No developments in search for missing WWU student
BELLINGHAM - The search for a missing Western Washington University student continued Friday, Oct. 1, without developments, but volunteers were undaunted as they plan more efforts this weekend.
Dwight A. Clark, 18, vanished early Sunday morning, Sept. 26, after walking away from a party in the 1000 block of Indian Street by himself.
About 60 volunteers met at the Kmart parking lot on Sunset Drive Friday morning and then fanned out to search for any sign of Clark in the surrounding neighborhoods and around Sunset Pond, said Pennie Saum, a friend of Clark's family.
Despite the publicity surrounding Clark's disappearance, Saum said many people the searchers contacted Friday didn't know about it.
"We did a lot of face-to-face contacts and handing out fliers with his picture on it," Saum said.
After a lunch break, the searchers focused their attention on Lake Padden. They plan to be in downtown Bellingham Friday and Saturday nights contacting people.
"We're going to talk and speak and see everyone we can," Saum said.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, the volunteers will meet at the parking lot of the former Toyota dealership at Ellis and East Champion streets, but their destinations hadn't been determined as of Friday evening, according to Saum.
They'll be searching again on Sunday as well.
Community support and donations have been pouring in to support and sustain the efforts, Saum said.
"We've had amazing community support," Saum said. "It's just absolutely wonderful."

Re: DWIGHT A CLARK - 18 yo - Bellingham WA
What were expected to be contentions public hearings in Bellingham on traffic cameras and alcohol initiatives have been canceled.
They were scheduled for Monday, but they won’t be happening out of respect for all involved with yesterday’s tragic death of a child and the disappearance of Western Washington student Dwight Clark, said city council president Gene Knutson.
The agenda included hearings on a proposal to use red light and school zone cameras at six locations, and a resolution opposing state initiatives 1100 and 1105, which would privatize liquor sales.
“A child has been killed, the families involved will deal with this tragedy for the rest of their lives, and our entire community is touched by yesterday’s accident,” Knutson said in a statement Friday afternoon.
“Our community also is dealing with a high-profile missing person case. It has been a very difficult week for Bellingham and we simply want to give ourselves some time,” he said.
“[The traffic camera issue] is an important conversation to have in our community and right now is a difficult time to have it, especially under the magnifying glass of out-of-town people promoting their own agendas. We are unwilling to put our community and our staff through that right now.”
State political activist and staunch red light camera opponent Tim Eyman said earlier this week he had planned to testify at the Bellingham hearing Monday night.
Police officers scheduled to participate in the hearing are involved with the fatal automobile accident investigation and the Dwight Clark disappearance, said Knutson.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Even with no hard evidence of a crime, suspicion continues to build in the case of a Western Washington University student who's been missing for nearly a week.
Dwight Clark's family and friends held a vigil in his hometown of Auburn, where they wished him a quick and safe return.
His disappearance convinced Brianne Tracy to bring his closest friends together in a park where he loved to go skating.
"Everyone's going through a hard time. Everyone came here together to join in prayer for Dwight," she said.
The 18-year-old had just moved to Bellingham to attend Western Washington University when he went missing one week ago.
As search teams have scoured the city, hometown friends wanted to offer a tribute of their own.
"I felt it was really important to do something down here in his hometown for everyone to attend," Brianne said.
Hundreds of people lined the Auburn skate park holding candles, then launched on their skate boards as a tribute to Dwight and his passion for the activity.
Dwight was last seen about 2 a.m. Sunday walking to his dorm from an off-campus party. He never made it - but police say his phone sent a blank text message 40 minutes later.
Detectives tracked the call to downtown Bellingham, where volunteers handed out missing-person flyers Saturday night in hopes of stirring up new leads.
"He never had his phone off. It was always on, texting someone," says family friend Kaylie Evans.
Kaylie is caring for Dwight's little brother while his family keeps up the search in Bellingham - and she and Dwight's friends are holding on to hope.
"I love how the boys are skating right now," said Kaylie. "It's just - it hits home, and it's awesome that they're doing this for him."
Police still classify this as a missing persons case - but with suspicious circumstances.
Volunteers canvassing downtown Bellingham generated dozens of tips Friday night - and they were out until last call Saturday night to do the same.

Police here are investigating a mysterious message left on a missing person poster for Western Washington University student Dwight Clark.
A witness said a man walked up to the poster hanging outside a store, and wrote a message indicating that Clark had been stabbed to death.
The witness said she asked the man why he was writing that, and the man replied because that's what had happened.
The man drove off, but the witness called police.
A photo taken by a witness showed an officer removing the poster. The owner of the Super Store - where the poster was hanging outside - said police have reviewed the store's surveillance footage. He said investigators asked him for a description of the man, but he could not.
Clark, 18, was last seen leaving a party near the Western Washington University campus at about 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 26.
Officials said the Auburn teenager was headed back to his dorm room, but never made it.
Clark's cell phone sent a blank text message about 40 minutes later, and investigators tracked the location from which the message was sent to downtown Bellingham.
Friends, family and fellow students spent the last week searching for Clark, and a Facebook page with thousands of fans has been providing updates and helping coordinate search efforts.
Clark is an honors student from Auburn High School and had just moved to Bellingham to start his freshman year at college when he disappeared.
A reward of $16,995 is being offered for information leading to Clark's safe return.

Police: Missing Western student found in Bellingham Bay
By CASEY MCNERTHNEY
SEATTLEPI.COM STAFF
Police say the body found Thursday in Bellingham Bay is Dwight Clark, the 18-year-old Western Washington University student who has been missing for more than a week.
Investigators found Clark's driver's license with the body and made the identification from physical characteristics, police spokesman Mark Young said. A medical identification and cause of death are expected later this week.
Hundreds of Western students gathered Wednesday at a 4 p.m. memorial for Clark at the center of campus.
"We are profoundly saddened, and extend our deepest condolences to the Clark family and all who knew Dwight personally," Western President Bruce Shepard said in a statement.
Clark, of Auburn, was last seen about 2 a.m. Sept. 26 leaving a party in the 1000 block of Indian Street. He was believed to be going to his room at nearby Nash Hall, but police said about 40 minutes later a blank text message was sent to a friend from downtown Bellingham.

Search parties had been combing the area for Clark since.
The body was found in an area owned by the Port of Bellingham, which was previously owned by Georgia-Pacific. An independent contractor working for the Port of Bellingham found the body floating in the water between a dock and a log boom, Young said. He notified port officials, who called police.
Officers notified Clark's mother about the body early Wednesday afternoon. Young said police wanted to let her know of their efforts and brace her for possible developments, but the notification was initially done as a precaution.
On Saturday, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection unit helping with the search for Clark found a woman's body along the shore of Bellingham Bay. She was found near Cornwall Avenue and Pine Street, a few blocks from the Western campus.
The woman, in her 60s, had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Young said.
On Tuesday, a man wrote on a missing poster outside a convenience store that Clark was stabbed 17 times. Police took the poster, but have not said if they think the claim is legitimate or a hoax. The owner of the Super Store at 2019 Harris Ave. told KOMO/4 that Bellingham police reviewed store surveillance footage to try and identify who left the note.
More than 100 people gathered Saturday for a candlelight vigil at Brannan Skate Park in Auburn. Clark was an avid skateboarder and recent graduate of Auburn High School.

Re: DWIGHT A CLARK - 18 yo - Bellingham WA
It was a devastating day Wednesday for the family and friends of missing Western Washington University student Dwight Clark, as they received word that a body – believed to be that of the missing 18-year old - had been found floating in a lagoon near an old Georgia Pacific plant.
Bellingham Police spokesman Mark Young said a Port of Bellingham worker found the body about 11 a.m. and that a driver’s license belonging to the missing young man was found on the body.
However the body was not officially identified as Clark’s on Wednesday.
A medical examiner will have to confirm the identity and that could come today. Officials say the body, which appears to have been in the water for several days, is assumed to be that of Clark as nothing indicates that it is not.
It was not known immediately if the boy ended up in the water due to an accident or foul play. An autopsy is expected to determine that. Police said when a body has been in water for a period of time it is difficult to visually ascertain injuries.
Police say Clark, an honors student from Auburn who had just arrived at the university six days earlier to start college, was walking to his college dorm room at WWU early in the morning of Sunday September 26 after attending a party on a weekend. He never made it back to his dorm and records show his cell phone was used in downtown Bellingham a mile away that day.
Police say Clark's phone sent a blank text message about 40 minutes after he left the party and they tracked the call to downtown Bellingham.
Volunteers have been scouring the area the past week handing out flyers and asking people if they had heard about the disappearance and if they might have seen Clark.
On Tuesday Oct. 5 Bellingham Police were investigating a strange incident involving an odd message left on a missing person poster for Dwight Clark.
A witness said a man walked up to a poster that was hanging outside a local store, and wrote a message indicating Clark had been stabbed to death.
The witness said she asked the man why he was writing that, and the man replied because that's what had happened and then drove away.
The witness then called police. The report is HERE
The owner of the store where the poster was hanging outside said police have reviewed the store's surveillance footage, the report said.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (CBS/AP) Bellingham police say the body found in a log pond on the Bellingham, Washington waterfront is that of missing Western Washington University student Dwight Clark.
Police spokesman Mark Young told The Seattle Times that Clark's driver's license was found on the body and there's no reason to believe it's not him.
Whatcom County Medical Examiner Gary Goldfogel says he will perform an autopsy Thursday.
Police say a blank text message was sent from his cell phone to a friend from downtown Bellingham at 2:40 a.m. which is approximately 40 minutes after he left the party and was believed to be heading back to his dorm, reports The Seattle Post Intelligencer.
The Bellingham Herald reports police believe the message was sent from the downtown area.
Police say the body was found before noon Wednesday by a worker in a small boat in a lagoon formerly owned by the Georgia-Pacific company.
