A one-year-old Dallas child is dead and police say his mother's boyfriend is to blame. Wednesday afternoon Jonathan Peterson sat in the Dallas County Jail.
The 22-year-old is currently charged with injury to a child, but those charges are expected to change.
When paramedics found little Bronson Franklin he had no pulse. Emergency workers were able to resuscitate him and take him to Children's Hospital brought him here to Children's Medical Center.
When the child arrived police say he had severe bruises.
Police officers say Peterson admitted hitting Bronson once on the head and repeatedly on his body.
Peterson, who has been dating the boy's mother, was reportedly looking after the toddler at a home he shared with the family in south Dallas.
According to police reports, Peterson said he hit the boy because wouldn't stop crying and calling out for his mother.
After realizing something was wrong with the child, it was Peterson who apparently called 911. Officers say he later told them, "I hope I didn't hit him too hard."
Neighbors report they had no idea what had happened. "He [Bronson] was out here playing yesterday with the other kids," said Tieascha Armstrong. "And that's sad to know he's gone today. That's real sad."
Police say they're waiting on the official medical examiners report and if it shows Bronson died from his injuries, they expect to upgrade the charge against Peterson to capital murder.

A Dallas man told investigators he beat his girlfriend's baby to death at an Oak Cliff home Tuesday because the boy wouldn't stop crying and calling for his mother, according to police documents. Child abuse detectives arrested Jonathan Peterson, 22, on a felony charge of injury to a child in the death of 1-year-old Bronson Franklin. Bronson was not breathing and had no pulse when paramedics arrived about 5:30 p.m. at the home in the 1800 block of Pratt Street, near South Zang Boulevard, the documents said. Peterson demonstrated for detectives how he "whooped" the baby approximately three times, including a blow to the head, until he stopped crying, the documents said. "I hope I didn't hit him too hard," Peterson said to Dallas police officers at a hospital. The severely bruised baby was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center and briefly resuscitated before being flown to Children's Medical Center Dallas, where he died shortly after 7 p.m. Bronson's mother told police her son was not injured when she left him with Peterson about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Dallas County medical examiner's office has not completed an autopsy on the boy. Peterson is being held at the Dallas County Jail on $750,000 bail.

Charges upgraded to capital murder against man accused of beating girlfriend's 1-year-old son to death

Charges have been upgraded against a man accused of beating his girlfriend's 1-year-old son to death last week, according to police documents.

Jonathan Peterson (right), 22, now faces a capital murder charge in the death of Bronson Franklin. He admitted to beating the boy at a central Oak Cliff home September 28 because he would not stop crying and calling for his mother, police said.

An autopsy found the boy to have "a swollen brain, many clusters of multiple contusions on his head, arms, legs, buttocks and in the groin area," police documents said. He also had injuries to his pancreas, police said.

Peterson is being held at the Dallas County Jail on $1,750,000 bond, according to jail records.
