"Toddler Jane Doe" - 1 yo (2008) - Aurora/Centennial CO

A 27-year-old Aurora woman was found guilty of child abuse resulting in death on Friday, following a two-week trial and two days of deliberation by a jury.Claudia Jimenez-Cedillo was babysitting her 1-year-old niece on Aug. 18, 2008 when she became frustrated with the baby crying as a result of teething.Testimony indicated Jimenez picked up the crying child and shook her numerous times, hitting the child's head on a nearby crib which caused a massive skull fracture.
The child was comatose when she arrived at a nearby hospital and died later from her injuries."The defendant told police that the baby rolled off of the bed and hit her head," Deputy District Attorney Gary Dawson told the jury during closing arguments. "But all of the doctors that looked at this case agree that a roll off of the bed would not cause this type of injury. This was an intentional and deliberate act."Jimenez faces a sentence of 16 to 48 years in prison. Sentencing is set for Dec. 20.
