MIRANDA HEMPHILL - 13 yo - Victorville (N of San Bernardino) CA
A statewide amber alert was issued for a 13-year-old girl who was abducted from San Bernadino County early Sunday morning, according to the California Emergency Management Agency.
Miranda Hemphill was abducted from her Victorville home at approximately 2 a.m. by a 22-year-old man who her father says befriended her over the internet. The San Bernadino Sheriff's Department issued the alert today at 1:27 a.m., just hours after her father made an online plea for his daughter to come home. In that YouTube video -- one that the sheriff's department said contains accurate information -- Hemphill's father speaks to the camera in front of a picture of Miranda. "You are amazing, you are everything to us," her father says in the video. "Please, just turn around and come home. My little hummingbird, please, I love you." Hemphill is described as standing 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The suspect, Ivan Lopez, is a Hispanic male standing 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Lopez is possibly driving a primer grey and white Chevrolet van with a California license plate of 2CIW894. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's department at (866) 346-7632.

YEAH!! YOU CAN MOVE THIS THREAD TO "FOUND"!!!
VICTORVILLE, Calif. (KABC) -- A missing 13-year-old girl from Victorville has been found in Las Vegas, after apparently running off with a suspected child molester she met online.
Ivan Lopez, 22, was taken into police custody after authorities found him with the girl. The two were found around 10:20 a.m. by the U.S. Marshals, the FBI and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police. Details regarding the specific circumstances surrounding their discovery were not immediately available.
The girl was taken into protective custody and San Bernardino County sheriff's officials were en route to Las Vegas to conduct interviews.
The sheriff's department said Miranda Hemphill was last seen Sunday around 2 a.m. near her home. Her parents reported her missing to Victorville police later that morning. An Amber Alert was issued on Tuesday.
Authorities believe she ran off with Lopez, who is from Lennox. Upon investigation, authorities found that Lopez currently has an active felony warrant in San Bernardino County for a sex crime involving a minor that occurred in 2009.
Hemphill met Lopez online in May. He told her and her friends that he was 17 years old. The two dated off and on for months until Hemphill eventually broke things off. However, Lopez talked her into running away with him and the two took off to Vegas.
Hemphill's father posted a video message on YouTube, pleading for his daughter's return.
"All of your friends and family are worried sick about you. You are amazing. You are everything to us. We all love you and we all care about you. Please, just turn around and come home," said Hemphill's father in the video.
Her family credits authorities for finding her along with tips from the public.
"She's my baby sister, and I'm so glad that everybody helped to bring her to us. Thank you guys for using the YouTube video to get the ball rolling. For the first 24 hours, we almost lost her, and the last 24 hours helped us find her," said Hemphill's sister, Jennifer Stolpp.
"I was very positive, and I had a feeling that she was going to be OK," said the victim's father, Robert Hemphill.
If you have any information regarding this incident, you're asked to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department at 1-866-346-7632.

Re: MIRANDA HEMPHILL - 13 yo - Victorville (N of San Bernardino) CA
VICTORVILLE - Law enforcement in two states worked together to find a missing 13-year-old girl who had been lured away from her home by a man suspected in a child sex crime. Miranda Hemphill and her suspected abductor, 22-year-old Ivan Lopez of Lennox, were found in a 1973 Chevy van Tuesday morning in a Las Vegas parking lot. Las Vegas police, the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service took Lopez and the victim into custody. "She is being kept at a safe location and will be interviewed by the investigators," said San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller. "At some point (Tuesday), she will be brought back to her family in Victorville." Miranda's family reported her as a runaway on Sunday morning. Deputies discovered the girl had been corresponding with Lopez on the Internet. Lopez told the girl he was 17 years old. Investigators also discovered Lopez was wanted for committing sex acts with a 15-year-old girl in Victorville in 2009. Deputies had obtained a felony warrant for Lopez's arrest in July, according to court records. The combination of factors allowed the Sheriff's Department to issue an Amber Alert. Miranda's father posted a plea on Youtube.com, telling his daughter to come home. "All of your friends and family are worried sick about you," he said. Although it was unknown why Lopez brought the teen to Nevada, officials say they are pleased they found the victim alive and apparently unharmed. "It's a great ending," Miller said.

When 13-year-old Miranda Hemphill went missing last weekend from her home in Victorville, Calif., her parents told police the girl ran away with a 17-year-old boy she met online. But after being found in Las Vegas on Tuesday, police discovered the boy was actually a 22-year-old man named Ivan Lopez, who is wanted in California on charges of a sex crime involving a minor.Social media expert Linda Fogg Phillips said parental involvement is important when a child is online -- even if a parent believes a situation like Miranda's won't happen to their child."We have to be aware of that environment and also teach our children to live safely in that environment," she said.Las Vegas Metro police found Miranda and Lopez in the parking lot of the Diamond Inn Hotel, across from Mandalay Bay, after detectives recognized Lopez's van.UNLV criminal justice professor Bill Sousa said criminals often come to Las Vegas, thinking it’s the perfect hideout."Las Vegas is not a good place at all for a fugitive to come, unless they want to get caught," he said. "There are very few places where you can go where you're not being watched by someone."Miranda is in the care of Child Haven until she is reunited with her parents and Lopez is in FBI custody.

Re: MIRANDA HEMPHILL - 13 yo - Victorville (N of San Bernardino) CA
The 22-year-old man arrested this week for taking a 13-year-old Victorville girl to Las Vegas now faces federal prosecution, U.S. Justice Department officials say.Ivan Lopez is charged with interstate transportation of a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity, according to the affidavit in support of the criminal complaint. This week's disappearance of Miranda Hemphill prompted an Amber Alert that led to the Tuesday morning arrest of Lopez, who lives in the Los Angeles County town of Lennox. The girl had been reported missing at 9:25 a.m. Sunday by her family who told San Bernardino County sheriff's investigators that she apparently had left sometime during the night — apparently willingly — with Lopez, whom the family incorrectly believed was 17 and had met the girl online.Lopez was arrested after federal officers spotted his van outside a motel in South Las Vegas, Department of Justice spokesman Thom Mrozek said in a written statement."According to a criminal complaint filed yesterday ..., Lopez had driven to the motel with (the) girl," the statement says. "Lopez had arranged to pick up the girl after spending approximately six months chatting with the girl on the social networking sites MySpace and Twinkle."In their second month of communicating, Lopez asked her to be his girlfriend, though she reminded him of her young age, investigators say."Lopez communicated regularly with the girl via the Internet, text messaging and telephone calls, telling her about plans to have sex and to run away and go 'East,'" according to the statement. "Lopez allegedly drove to the girl's house early Sunday morning after the girl's parents had gone to sleep."In an unrelated case, Lopez is facing charges in San Bernardino County, where he is accused of illegal sexual activity with an 14-year-old girl.
