Baby's body found in El Cajon backyard
October 29, 2010
EL CAJON, Calif. - A body of an infant boy was found Thursday evening in an unincorporated area of El Cajon, according to deputies.
San Diego County Sheriffs said the body was found in a plastic bag that was discovered at about 6:30 p.m. in a backyard shed at a house in the 1100 block of Flamingo Avenue near Oro Street in a rural area, according to San Diego County sheriff's homicide Lt. Dennis Brugos.
A woman who lives there discovered the plastic bag and called her son to help investigate it, after her dog reacted suspiciously to it, Brugos said. They brought the bag into the house, and when they open it the discovered the body, Brugos said.
Paramedics and deputies were immediately notified. They arrived within minutes and pronounced the infant dead. An autopsy was pending to determine the cause of death, Brugos said.
People in the neighborhood said they recently witnessed an increased amount of activity in and around the house where the body was found. One neighbor told Fox 5 that between five and 10 people actually live in the residence.
"This is a drug house, but it's tragic," said neighbor Guy Munshower. "I want to know why this has happened."

Baby found in bag in El Cajon was stillborn
updated November 1, 2010 at 4 p.m.
EL CAJON — A full-term baby boy discovered dead inside a plastic bag in a shed in unincorporated El Cajon last week was stillborn, authorities said Monday.
A mentally disabled woman had delivered the boy Thursday at her home in Chula Vista, where she lives with family, sheriff’s homicide Lt. Dennis Brugos said.
Instead of getting help, they took the tiny body to the home of family friends on Flamingo Avenue near Oro Street, where a woman reported it to authorities about 6:30 p.m.
The family told authorities they put the body there temporarily until they could figure out what had to be done.
“It is a tragic situation,” Brugos said. “She and her family didn’t know what to do.”
Brugos said the woman, who is 31 years old, said she had consensual sex but may not have even known she was pregnant. Her family believed she was just gaining weight, Brugos said.
If she had sought medical attention after the delivery, the matter would not have come to the attention of law enforcement, Brugos said.
The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy over the weekend and determined that the baby was not alive when delivered.
Investigators determined that the incident was not criminal in nature.
