"Jane" GARCIA - 5 yo (2010)/ Charged: Father: Angel Baby Garcia III - Moreno Valley (E of Riverside) CA

A man and woman have been arrested following the death of a 5-year-old girl whose injuries were caused by physical abuse, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported Thursday.  

Moreno Valley police officers were called Tuesday to Riverside County Regional Medical Center to investigate the death of the girl, who had suffered a serious injury earlier in the day.  Hospital officials called authorities because of the girl's age, and because her parents had decided not to seek medical help, a Sheriff's press release said.

There was no immediate explanation of how, or in what condition, the girl arrived at the hospital.

After a coroner's autopsy determined the girl had been physically abused, deputies arrested the girl's father, Angel Baby Garcia III, 22, and the girl's stepmother, Yadira Onofre, 23, both of Moreno Valley. Garcia was booked for investigation of murder and child abuse. Onofre was booked for investigation of child abuse and accessory to murder.
