A Laurinburg man has been charged with murder in the beating death of his girlfriend’s 17-month-old son at her St. Pauls home, according The Fayetteville Observer.
Robert James Jordan, 26, was charged on Dec. 16 with first-degree murder and child abuse, The Fayetteville Observer reported.
Jordan is being held in the Robeson County jail without bond on the murder charge and is under $500,000 bond on the child abuse charge.
St. Pauls Police Chief Thomas Hagens told the newspaper that Jordan was charged after preliminary autopsy results showed that the child, Nathaniel Bruce Reed, was beaten and suffered blunt force trauma to his head and torso.
On Nov. 22 paramedics responded to a 911 call from the home of Monica Lynn Ullon, the child’s mother, who lives at Fox Ridge Apartments on South McGougan Street. Police were notified of the situation shortly after paramedics arrived.
Nathaniel was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where he died the same day.
