XAVIER THOMAS Jr - 6 yo - Tampa FL
A Tampa man has been charged with stabbing his six-year-old son more than 20 times. Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies have arrested 23 year-old Xavier Thomas and charged him attempted murder. Investigators
say six-year-old Xavier Thomas Jr. was visiting relatives at an
apartment on 58th Street last night. The victim's dad was also there.
The family was in the parking lot lighting fireworks after which the
father took his son to a playground at the apartment complex. About 20
minutes later, family members noticed that the little boy was missing
and started looking for him. Around the same time, the father
returned to the apartment without his son. When he was questioned about
the little boy, he took off. A family member called the
sheriff's department about the missing boy. Just as deputies arrived,
the child emerged from the playground area, covered in blood. The child was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital. Officials say his stab wounds are not life theatening. Deputies searched for the father and located him walking on 50th street near I-4, where he was taken into custody. Xavier Thomas Sr. will make his first appearance in court tomorrow.

Re: XAVIER THOMAS Jr - 6 yo - Tampa FL
A Tampa man accused of stabbing his 6-year-old son more than 20 times
has been coping with mental problems since he saw two people shot to
death, his grandmother said.
Xavier Thomas, 23, of 5607 Charles Dr., faces one charge of attempted
murder in the stabbing of Xavier Thomas Jr. during a New Year's Eve
party Friday.
The boy was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, and his injuries are not
life-threatening, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
The father was being held without bond in the Hillsborough County jail.
"He needs help," Yvonne Mickles, grandmother of Xavier Thomas, said
in an interview at her home. "I was wondering – last night – was he on
his medication because … in his mind … there's nothing wrong with him."
Mickles said that as recently as six weeks ago, Thomas was being
treated for mental illness. She said he suffers from trauma after seeing
two friends die in separate incidents.
"One of the boys died in his arms," Mickles said.
Afterward, Thomas often sat and talked to the dead boy as if he were there, she said.
"That's when we knew he had a problem."
Thomas was not married to his son's mother and did not have custody
of the child, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said. Mickles said
that the parents of the mother, whom she identified as Adrian Butler,
are raising the boy.
"That baby was an innocent bystander," Mickles said. "I've talked to
God and thanked God so much that he saved that baby, spared that baby's
life."
Investigators gave this account of the stabbing:
The father was visiting relatives for a New Year's party at an
apartment complex in the 11700 block of 58th Street. The boy was also at
the party but his mother did not attend.
Partygoers lighted fireworks in the parking lot. As everyone went back inside, Thomas took his son to the complex's playground.
About 20 minutes later, Thomas returned to the party without the boy.
When relatives asked where the boy was, Thomas ran. Relatives called the sheriff's office to report the boy missing.
As deputies arrived, the boy returned from the playground. He was
covered in blood and had been stabbed repeatedly in the back, chest,
neck and arm, according to investigators.
Thomas was arrested a short time later walking near 50th Street North and 21st Avenue East, investigators said.
Carter would say only that the weapon used in the attack was a sharp
object. Investigators had not identified a motive, she said.
Thomas faced a charge of domestic violence in July 2007 but it was dismissed, Hillsborough court records show.
Thomas also was named in a June 2003 paternity case and was divorced in July 2008, Hillsborough court records show.
In both of the cases, he was brought back to court for delinquency in making payments.

I liked your point about putting down bad animals, why can't we put down people like this?
I don't buy the mental illness defense. I've seen some bad stuff in my life and it never made me want to stab anyone, let alone my own children...

An aggressive animal acts instinctually. We put those animals down to assure that they don’t pose a threat. An aggressive person is not acting instinctually, but we cater to them. Give them free meals, a warms safe place to sleep, then set them free with a little money in their pocket when we feel their “reformed”. It's not human behavior to harm a child. Humans are nurturing by nature. IMHO - this ***ker is not a human.... Yet, he's not an animal. Nevertheless, one less useless oxygen thief plaguing society by hiding behind the shield of a "poor mental health" defense will not make me lose any sleep at night. Put him down like a dog and move on to the next child abusing dead weight. (sorry for the rant....)
