Family, police looking for missing teen

The family of a missing teenager is asking for help locating
18-year-old Erik B. Winkel, who was last seen by his father at 8 p.m.
Thursday and who may be suicidal, according to Independence police
detective Christina Nunez.Winkel may be in a gold 2002 Dodge Caravan, license number MC5-X8Y with a “John Bullard” bumper sticker, his father told police.Police
said Winkel gave away personal property to friends recently, and
information was found on his laptop that indicate he might be
considering suicide.His parents also said that Winkel bought sleeping pills at a Walgreen’s in Blue Springs on Saturday.Anyone with information is asked to call the Independence Police Investigations Unit at 816-325-7330.

Man killed by train in Independence identified
The Jackson County medical examiner has identified the man killed by a train Monday morning as Erik B. Winkel, 18, of Independence.
Winkel died when he was struck by a train about 1:30 a.m. Monday near the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant at Missouri 7 and Lake City Buckner Road.
Winkel’s family had reported him missing and said he might be suicidal. He had been last seen by his father at 8 p.m. Thursday.
