MIYANNAH TURNER - 3 yo (2008) - St Louis MO
The Missouri Appeals Court today upheld the conviction of a St.
Louis man who was sentenced to 25 years in prison for beating his girlfriend's daughter.
The man had claimed that the girl's death stemmed from incorrect
CPR instructions given to him over the phone by a 911 dispatcher.
Miyannah Turner died Feb. 25, 2008, while in the care of Quintin
Gray Sr., 26, at a home in the 4700 block of South Grand Boulevard.
Gray's son had told authorities that his father had hit the girl with a belt and his fist.
The appeals court documents point out that in the recording of
the 911 call, Gray tells the dispatcher that he had already been
performing CPR for ten minutes, which provided him "ample time to
fabricate his statements," the appeals document says. The appeals
court also disputed arguments that a reenactment video was unfairly
excluded and that he was a victim of double jeopardy.
Last month, Gray's family and several activists gathered to
highlight the appeal, saying he was innocent.
