Precious little information is available regarding Caylee's father. KC seemed to have deliberately hidden the identity of the father from everyone - possibly even the father himself. The information we have is as follows: From Jesse G. (p. 1505, 1541, 2386): Met KC in Jan 2005 while working at Universal Studios. Had a paternity test done soon after Caylee was born and became engaged around that time. Engagement ended around May of 2006. (Note that in March, April or May 2006 Jesse's parents told KC they really could not continue watching Caylee during the day because Rev. Grund worked from the home. KC said it was not a problem - she had a nanny.) In October and November 2007 she and Jesse were dating again, and this is the timeframe she was introduced to Anthony R. From Kiomarie C. (p. 212): Kio says she knows she met Caylee's father at one point but did not know his name. It is possible she had met Jesse and was not aware he was eventually eliminated as the father. From Anthony R. (p. 637): Thought the father was some high school friend, and it was his understanding the father had died right after Caylee was born or after her first birthday. He was aware that Jesse had thought for a period that he was the father. From Amy H. (p. 259) Will told her that Caylee's dad died in a car wreck just before Caylee's first birthday. From Lauren G. (p. 1372): At first thought the father was Jesse G., then later was told by KC "it was somebody who was in the Army or something like that." She was never told a name, and believed the father to be white rather than Hispanic because of Caylee's appearance. Her understanding is that it was a one night stand sort of thing because the father was engaged to someone else. The father had died in a car accident the previous year, and KC was informed of this by his also unnamed fiance. To the best of Lauren's knowledge, the paternal grandparents never expressed an interest in seeing Caylee. From Melina C. (starting p. 5101): At first thought the father was Jesse G., then after KC and Jesse broke up in May of 2006 she was told the father was someone named Josh, but did not know the last name nor his age. He was a one-night stand from Georgia that KC met at Universal and slept with at an area hotel. Was told that KC occasionally spoke to Josh but that Josh was engaged to someone else and already had a child with that person. Josh died in a car accident in Georgia, but Melina never saw an obituary. From Cindy (p. 2092, 2460): Her understanding was that the father was one of KC's old friends from school, a person named "Eric". He had visited KC and Caylee was the result of a single sexual encounter. Cindy heard that the father was killed in a car accident around either Caylee's or KC's birthday. It was Cindy's understanding KC stayed in contact with the father's widow, and that the father had another child. From Annie D. (audio part 2, starting 20:30): Father died in an out of state auto accident either the day before or the day of Caylee's 2nd birthday party. Heard his name was Eric but could not recall a last name. He was on some sort of break down at Universal and they hooked up for a one-night stand. The father was engaged to someone else, married her, and had a child with that person. KC was hoping to eventually introduce Caylee to her half brother. From KC to Yuri (p. 2282): KC could only tell him the name was "Eric' and that he died in a motor vehicle accident in Georgia in mid to late 2007. She claimed she had an obituary at one point, but couldn't recall where she put it. Eric James Baker 12.8.83 - 8.11.07> I think we can safely surmise that the father-story KC constructed was roughly: Name: Eric James Baker Born: Dec 8, 1983, Died: Aug 11, 2007 (two days after Caylee's second birthday) Resident of Georgia Died in a car accident in Georgia Engaged or married at time of death Survived by wife or fiance and one son Caylee was a result of a one-night stand in a hotel after meeting up at Universal KC may have known him in high school, but IMHO it is unlikely - only Cindy was supposedly told this (and she may have simply assumed) The above is what KC intended to have as her story, but as we see with individuals who have heard the story, she can't always keep her "facts" straight and sometimes slips up. Of course, her friends don't always remember as well.

Let's deconstruct KC's story, beginning with the "obituary", shall we?

First, as with the nanny, no one has been able to find Eric James Baker.

No Eric Baker or Erik Baker (with or without the "J" middle initial)
has ever been found to have attended Colonial High School while KC was
there, so we can scratch the idea they went to high school together.
Four Eric Bakers died in 2007, the closest one matching KC's description being in North Carolina on Aug 30, born May 13, 1983. None have the middle initial "J" (see here).

KC's Eric James Baker simply never existed.

If the father's name, birth date, and date of death were fictional, what about the quote shown in the obituary from Jesus Ortiz?

It turns out, Jesus Ortiz really did exist. He was a classmate and
friend of KC's at Colonial High, and he died in a car accident on May
8, 2007. The article describing the accident can be found here.

Excerpt:

The lives of
three UCF students were changed forever May 8 when a violent car crash
on Alafaya Trail left one student dead and sent two to the hospital.

Jesus Ortiz, a business major, died in the crash.

The quote attributed to Jesus Ortiz in the Eric James Baker obit is
lifted directly from the "Who I'd Like To Meet" section of his myspace.

Once again KC weaves truth in with fiction in building a believable lie.

So why did she create this fictional father? I think Cindy's brother Rick articulated the reason in August when he posted on an MSN group as "Mama_Mouse" (p. 2984):

"Casey told [sic] Cindy this story to get Cindy off her back about who the father might be. Cindy bought it hook, line and sinker."

As a side note, prior to the document release in September
which contained the "obituary" found on the computer, a number of
sleuths on the boards were speculating that Mr. Ortiz himself was the father.
He certainly met the known criteria at the time, with the exception
being that he was Hispanic, and Caylee had no Hispanic traits. Rick
pointed this out in several emails to Cindy (and Cindy never told him
about Eric), including this excerpt from Aug 20:

Does anyone
other than Casey know the babysitter and can they vouch or have they
seen her in person. Simple question that you didn't answer. I said that
I would believe you if someone other than Casey could validate it. No
sitter, no kidnapping. Maybe she gave Caylee
to the real father to take care of? Jesus Ortiz is too Hispanic to be
the real father. That is another made up story.

IMHO, making up such a story would fit in with KC's
standard operating procedure, and the timing of this story dovetails
well with two other documented events around that timeframe, one being
KC's jealousy of Cindy at caylee's 2nd birthday party in August.
Her use of that particular birthday as an anchor for her tragic story
may have been a way for her to recapture ownership of that birthday
from Cindy, if that makes sense.

I can imagine the questions about the biological father intensified in
October when she had a second go at a relationship with Jesse that
lasted through November. Speculating, I can hear Cindy badgering "Well
he is not Caylee's father, so why are you going out with him again
after you called things off before? Are you ever going to get with
Caylee's father again?" to which KC would have replied "Mom, I can't because he is dead. And besides that, he was married."

Do note from the computer forensic report that the "obituary" file was created on October 5, 2007 and last accessed on November 5, 2007. What I find interesting too is that the file was stored under the user account "casey", which was the account George and Cindy used. Casey used account "owner", and one can find her IM's located there.

IMHO, KC put the file in a place where either her mother could find it or she could easily produce it.

In a nutshell, the story was created to get Cindy to quit asking about the dad - nothing else.

So who is Caylee's dad?

As I posted last week, we know that KC weaves truth in with her lies
to make them more believable, at least to her. But in doing so it
exposes her to little slips now and then, and I am wondering if she made such a slip in the following exchange at Universal studios (p. 120):

(SERGEANT ALLEN)
Q Zenaida give you any money that day?
A No. I would not have sold my daughter. If I wanted to really just get
rid of her. I would've left her with my parents and I would've left. I
would've moved out. I would've given my mom custody.
(DETECTIVE WELLS)
Q What about the baby's dad's parents would you have left her with them too?
A I haven't talked to them since we were probably six or seven years old. Since we were little kids. That was probably the last time I saw ..
Q You don't have a phone...
A .... or talked to them.
Q .. .for 'em?
A No I do not.

So here KC is saying that she had known Caylee's father since she was at least as young as six or seven years old.

The Anthony's moved to Hopespring Dr. from Ohio when KC was 3 1/2 (KC
DOB: March 19, 1986, Hopespring purchase: Oct. 4, 1989). Only one male
friend has stated he has known KC since they were that young: Ryan P.

There are several pieces of circumstantial evidence that help support
the theory that Ryan P. could be the birth father. One is a text
message exchange with Amy that Bond brought to my attention. This text exchange w/ Amy hinted at a different relationship between Casey & Ryan than just close friends (Text appears to have been on 5/26):

Amy to Casey: "Yeah. Those boys were too young last night. Even the older ones I wasn’t really attracted to. this sucks. I really want a guy. I’ve
never had anything real. Jason really truly loved me but didn’t know
how to act. I want that love in a good guy. I miss that love so much."

Casey to Amy: "I'm right there with ya! That’s how Ryan was. I want to be able to share my time and love with someone and have it be special. No more boys. We need men."

Another thing that has caught my attention is that pieces
of Ryan's life seem to play a major role in KC's lies, leading me to
believe that Ryan is a big part of KC's subconscious.

1. Ryan worked at Sport's Authority, and KC lied to Annie, Brittany, Lauren, the Grunds, and her own parents about working there for many months. In fact, one of her biggest lies prior to June, 2008 was being robbed of $4000 at gunpoint while working there!
   
2. Since Jan 2008, Ryan was living and going to school in Jacksonville. The fictional Jeff Hopkins who KC was dating, visiting, going to get the Pontiac worked on, introduced KC to the nanny, etc. lived in Jacksonville
   (the real Jeff Hopkins lives in Tallahasee). They worked "together" at
   Universal, similarly to Ryan and KC working "together" at Sport's
   Authority.
   
3. The fictional Jacksonville connection is bolstered by what KC told Anthony R: she was moving up to Jacksonville to live with some guy she was dating up there (Mike or Matt) and would be buying a home for her and her daughter (p. 630). This was in January 2008.
   

Before folks pile on and start pointing fingers at Ryan and
saying he must have known and is withholding information, remember this
is all speculation.

If my hunch is correct, however, IMHO Ryan is legitimately ignorant of the fact he might be Caylee's father. All KC would have to do if Ryan even suspected (no guarantees there as many ladies on the board have pointed out )
is tell him Jesse is the father. When that story falls apart then it
simply turns into the one-night stand story around the time she met
Jesse - in January 2005. In Ryan's mind he'd have a two month buffer -
no way it could be him. Assuming he even slept with her in the first
place, and did so in November 2004.

Speculation only.

Eric F. Baker is the one who LE pulled the Kentucky Death Cert on, died in an auto accident in Kentucky and we got it in a doc dump.....
