"Infant John" NIEVES - 1 yo (2011) - Millville NJ

MILLVILLE - Police arrested a woman Thursday and charged her with
neglect in the drowning death last month of her son in a bathtub.
Yeis N. Nieves, 21, of Delsea Gardens Apartments was charged with child abuse and hindering apprehension in addition to neglect.
She
left the 1-year-boy in a tub unattended in an upstairs bathroom of
their apartment with water running approximately 15 minutes, police
said.
Nieves went downstairs before returning to find the child unconscious, police said.
Neighbors came to the aid of Nieves, who became upset, and contacted authorities.
EMS responded to the apartment for a pediatric cardiac arrest.
The boy, whom police are not identifying, was pronounced dead at South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center that day.
The incident occurred around 10:14 a.m. May 8.
The only other occupants of the house were Nieves’ other two children, both under the age of 3.
Investigating officer Detective Bruce Cornish of Millville police said the other children were no longer in Nieves’ custody.
The New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services has been informed of the investigation, he said.
Nieves was charged with hindering apprehension for providing false statements during the investigation, Cornish said.
She was processed Thursday morning by police and released on a summons pending court.
Detective Ron Tobolski of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office also participated in the investigation.
Delsea Gardens is in the 2200 block of South 2nd Street.

BRIDGETON — The following people were indicted by a Cumberland County Grand Jury the week of Nov. 2, 2011:

* Yeis N. Nieves, 22, of South 2nd Street, in Millville, for one count of fourth-degree child abuse.

Nieves is accused of leaving her 1-year-old child unattended in an upstairs bathtub.
