"Infant John" CLEVENGER-SCHILLER - 8 Months - Hardeeville (W of Hilton Head) SC
A Hardeeville police captain
calls it one of the worst child abuse cases he's ever worked. There
are new charges and details about what happened to an eight-month-old
that has him barely hanging on to life. Police believe Chasity Clevenger and Henry Schiller did the unthinkable to their infant son and now they face child abuse charges that could escalate even more.
Friday WSAV reported the couple's infant was at the Augusta Burn Center, recovering from what was believed to be chemical burns. But after an evaluation, the doctor ruled it was something else.
"What appeared to be burn marks wasn't burn marks. They were results
of drugs placed in the child's bottle. And because the child lay in one
position for 8-9 hours, it caused those marks and bruises on the child,”
Captain Arnold Middleton said.
Middleton said the drug was a prescription form of Oxycodone. The damage it caused to the child is critical.
"Right now the child is in an induced coma,” Middleton said.
Middleton
says they've continued to meet with the parents, who are not owning up
to any form of abuse. They did, however, admit they were under the
influence of drugs. The couple's charges went from Unlawful Conduct to
Child Abuse. Middleton said it's possible stronger charges could come.
