‘The View’: Was Casey Anthony too pretty to convict?

The women on “The View” were laughing in ridicule, initially, at New York Post columnist Andrea Peyser’s contention that Casey Anthony and Amanda Knox were too pretty to convict.

Peyser wrote: “Following in the footsteps of her role model, Casey Anthony — another 20-something hottie, acquitted in Orlando for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee — Knox played the ‘I’m too pretty to kill’ card.”

Well, Knox’s murder conviction was overturned in Italy. Anthony was acquitted in July of murder in the 2008 death of her daughter, Caylee. How was Anthony a role model for Knox? Oh, well.

Peyser’s view had the women of “The View” hooting and scoffing at first. Then they seemed to buy her point.

Joy Behar said that the victim in Knox’s case — roommate Meredith Kercher — “is no beauty and so they’ll end up saying she killed herself before you know it.”

Behar amended the statement to say Kercher “was cute enough,” but that “Amanda Knox and Casey are like, you know, hot numbers.”

Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that talk about Knox and Anthony is being kept alive because of their looks. “We kept talking about them more and more because there was an intrigue about these young, good-looking women who somehow found themselves in a situation that was like unthinkable,” Hasselbeck said.

Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg lamented that supporters of Troy Davis, a black man who was executed in Georgia, couldn’t get his name in the media.

Goldberg said the fascination with Anthony was all about ratings. “One of the reasons that Casey Anthony was in the media so much is ’cause Nancy Grace kept her alive,” Goldberg said.

Or maybe people were interested in the victim in the Anthony case.
