Man Charged in Child Abuse Case

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man after a child was taken to USA Medical Center on an abuse claim.

The child's mother told hospital officials that her boyfriend, 30-year-old Steven Gerbige had abused her 2-year-old son. The woman said she left her children in Gerbige's care at his home in Bay Minette.

When she picked her children up, she said her son had multiple bruises and scrapes on his face and neck, and that his entire face was swollen.

Gerbige told his girlfriend the child got injured when he fell down the stairs while playing.

Doctors advised investigators that the injuries suffered by the victim were not consistent with a fall.

Gerbige was charged with torture and willful abuse of a child under 18 years of age by responsible person. He's being held with no bond.

At long last, a mother who cares more for her child  than for her boyfriend.   Good for her and God bless her.
