La Plata County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to search for a 13-year-old Four Corners boy missing since Monday.

Dylan Redwine was reported missing Monday afternoon by his father, Mark Redwine, who lives in Vallecito, about 22 miles northeast of Durango.

Dylan, who lived in Colorado Springs with his mother and brother, was staying at his father’s house since Sunday as part of a court ordered Thanksgiving holiday visitation.

Dylan was last seen at his father’s house by his father at about 7:30 a.m. on Monday. He was gone when his father returned to the house at about 11:30 a.m., after running some errands in town.

Dylan is described as 13 years old, standing 5 feet tall and weighing 105 pounds. He has blond hair and blue eyes.

It is not known what clothing he may be wearing, but he may have a black backpack with him.

Members of La Plata County Search & Rescue searched for Dylan Monday night and all day Tuesday, using ground search teams and search dogs.

The search area includes the shoreline around Vallecito Lake, several small subdivisions, two county roads, steep wooded hillsides and hiking trails.

Many of the homes in the area are seasonal, while some are occupied year around.

A resident who knows Dylan reported seeing him walking along County Road 501 in Vallecito Monday afternoon with another boy about the same age. Both had backpacks. The resident was not aware Dylan had been reported missing until Tuesday.

Sheriff’s Office investigators are interviewing family members and other people who know Dylan.

The Sheriff’s Office is not ruling out the possibility of an abduction but are also exploring the possibility that Dylan may be a runaway. Somefamily members indicated Dylan may not have been in favor of the court ordered visit this week. Dylan lived and attended school for years in the area and is known by many people.

Both parents are cooperating with investigators. Search & Rescue personnel are on stand-by today (Wednesday) in case new leads are developed that could direct them to new search areas.

Investigators are also retracing Dylan’s route from Colorado Springs toDurango and places he may have visited after his arrival.

Authorities and volunteers are going door to door in search of a 13-year-old boy who disappeared while on a court-ordered Thanksgiving visit to his father’s home in Colorado.

Dylan Redwine was last seen at the Vallecito, La Plata County, home of his dad, Mark Redwine, on Nov. 19.

Mark reported the teen missing after he left home early that day and returned hours later to find Dylan gone.

Dan Bender, La Plata County Sheriff's Department spokesman, told the Durango Herald that officials have "few clues to work from.”

“We have to consider everything from foul play to a runaway,” he said.

A person claimed to have seen Dylan walking along a road in Vallecito on the afternoon of Nov. 19, before he was reported missing, KUSA-TV reported.

Dylan is described as 5 feet tall, 105 pounds, blond hair, blue eyes with a fair complexion.

He was last seen wearing a blue and white Duke Blue Devils hat, a black Nike T-shirt, black basketball shorts and black Jordan tennis shoes.

Dylan’s parents divorced in 2007. He moved with his mother, Elaine Redwine, and his brother to Colorado Springs this summer.

“Dylan's entire family and many friends are clearly heartbroken over his disappearance and are very passionately trying to share information about his whereabouts to assist authorities,” the family said in a statement.

“The family continues to accept help from all possible individuals and organizations to find Dylan and bring him home."

Local volunteers and law enforcement officials combed the hills and neighboring regions of Vallecito Lake Saturday, with several of Dylan’s friends joining in the search.

“We asked (residents) about any sheds or barns where he could take shelter,” said Fernando Stubbs, 14,
who added that Dylan had been known to hitch rides.

“Honestly, I think he was walking into Bayfield and got taken away,” he told the Durango Herald.

Another pal, Ryan Nava, 13, said Dylan had planned to hang out with friends in Bayfield the evening of Nov. 18, but later postponed the meet-up until the following day.

Dylan, however, never arrived.

Nava said he texted and called Dylan’s phone several times that day and didn’t get a reply.

The search for a 13-year-old Colorado boy who went missing last Monday during a court-ordered visit with his father has been suspended, according to authorities.

The La Plata County Sheriff's Office announced it was suspending its search for Dylan Redwine after a two-day sweep of a lake near his father's house yielded no clues, officials said. The investigation into the teen's disappearance will continue.

Dylan was reported missing on Nov. 19 by his father, Mark Redwine, who said he left the house in Vallecito, La Plata County, about 7:30 a.m. and returned several hours later to find his son gone.

"After 8 days of searching in Vallecito, all areas have been covered by ground, by air, by water," La Plata County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dan Bender told NBC News on Tuesday by email.

The boy had been visiting from Colorado Springs, where he moved with his mother and brother over the summer, NBC station KUSA of Denver reported.

La Plata County Search and Rescue K-9s flagged an area on the southern end of Vallecito Lake on Saturday and again on Sunday, prompting scuba divers from the New Mexico State Police to search the area. But the lake search ended "after extensive sonar sweeps found nothing," according to a press release from the sheriff's office.

No further dives of the lake bottom or field searches are planned unless there are new leads, police said.

Dylan is 5 feet tall and 105 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes, according to authorities. He may be carrying a black backpack.

"Every time someone sees a young male child with light hair or with a black backpack, we're getting calls," Bender said Monday, adding that the lake search was "devastating" for the family.

The Redwine family told NBC affiliate KUSA they are still holding out hope Dylan is alive.

"It's been killing me. It's been hard for our whole entire family," Cory Redwine, Dylan's 21-year-old brother, said Monday. "He was my hero just as much as I was his."

While the Redwine family doesn't believe Dylan ran away, La Plata Sheriff Duke Schirard told KUSA, "The fact that he may have run away is our hope. Because at the other end of the continuum would be foul play or he could have been abducted by someone."

VALLECITO, La Plata County - Federal investigators searched the home of Dylan Redwine's father Thursday morning. Mark Redwine was the last person who saw his 13-year-old son, before Dylan disappeared last Monday.

"The Sheriff's Office is not calling Mark Redwine a suspect," Dan Bender, La Plata County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer, said. "However, since that house was the last place Dylan was seen, it is only prudent to do a more thorough search of that house and property for any information that can help direct us to Dylan."

Investigators searched Mark's home initially last week. Thursday's search was considered more thorough.

Thursday morning, Mark told 9NEWS he was going to spend the day with FBI and CBI investigators.

Dylan disappeared from his father's home in Vallecito. Vallecito is 20 minutes east of Durango. Dylan was visiting his father for Thanksgiving break. Mark Redwine was the last person to see his son.

"Our goal is to bring Dylan home," Mark Redwine told 9NEWS.

Investigators said it was important to search Mark's home again because that was the last place Dylan was seen.

On Wednesday, the La Plata County Sheriff's Department said they no longer believed Dylan ran away. Earlier in the week they said there are two possible outcomes: 1) that Dylan ran away 2) that he was abducted or foul play was involved.

The issue facing investigators is a lack of evidence. No clues were left behind that would point them in the direction of Dylan's whereabouts. Dylan is 13 years old and is described as an "urban kid" who loves to play video games. His brother Cory said Dylan isn't much of an "outdoorsy type of teen."

Authorities say they've finished searching the home of the father of a 13-year-old boy missing for 12 days in southwest Colorado.

Locally, Dylan Redwine's middle school Lewis-Palmer is set to hold a prayer vigil in Limbach Park Sunday night.

La Plata County Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Ray Shupe says Mark Redwine is cooperating with the investigation into his son's disappearance and volunteered to give an interview to authorities Thursday afternoon.

Dylan Redwine lives with his mother in Colorado Springs but was visiting his dad near Durango for Thanksgiving as part of a court order.

Authorities say they don't consider the boy's father a suspect and that they searched his home because it was the last place Dylan was seen.

Authorities say they don't believe Dylan Redwine ran away. About 50 people have been going door to door since Tuesday looking for any information that could help them find him.

The vigil in Monument will be held from 6-7 p.m. tomorrow evening at Limbach Park. That's on the corner of Front and Second street.

With Dylan Redwine missing for almost two weeks, dad clings to hope

VALLECITO — Dylan Redwine's half-smile is everywhere in the Pine River Valley.

Missing fliers with the 13-year-old's picture are affixed to road signs, pinned to bulletin boards, stuck in car windows, flashing on digital sign boards and displayed on businesses' entrance doors — sometimes two or three at a time, just in case someone might miss one.

One flier is taped to the front door of the small, sage-green house where Dylan was last seen and where his father, Mark Redwine, now hunches over on a couch, his eyes reddening as he considers dire possibilities nearly two weeks after Dylan went missing.

Dylan wouldn't have run away: He was too happy, his father said, in spite of the fact that his parents had been locked in a rough divorce battle for about seven years. It's unlikely he was abducted from this home in a tiny community where everyone knows everyone else in the offseason and few lock doors.

That leaves hitchhiking.

Mark said he learned from some of Dylan's friends in the wake of the disappearance that his son had been known to hitchhike.

So he ponders the what-ifs and details that might have led to Dylan's hitchhiking.

His son, who had flown in the evening before his disappearance to spend Thanksgiving with his father, badly wanted to go see friends who lived in Bayfield. Dylan had lived near there with his mother, Elaine Redwine, until July, when they moved to the Front Range.

Dylan had asked his father whether he could go to his friends' that evening after they had shopped at Walmart and eaten at a McDonald's in Durango and before the 45-minute drive to Mark's home north of Vallecito Lake. Mark said he told his son it was too late. So Dylan texted friends in Bayfield, his father said, and made arrangements to meet them the next morning.

The next morning, Dylan was sleeping on the couch where Mark Redwine now sits and where Dylan's blankets still lie jumbled. Mark said he waited until 7:30 a.m. but still couldn't rouse his son, so he told him he would return about 11. When he got back at 11:30, his son's dirty cereal bowl was beside the sink. The television was on Nickelodeon. His son's fishing pole was gone. So was his black-and-gray backpack. A few articles of clothing were left behind on the couch.

"His priority was pretty much with his friends, so I wasn't alarmed," Mark said.

In hindsight, Mark wonders whether Dylan became impatient and hitchhiked. "I can't quite wrap my mind around that yet," he said.

Mark said he tried texting Dylan all afternoon in an area with spotty cellphone service. When he didn't hear anything back by late afternoon, he went to Dylan's friend's house in Vallecito. That friend

hadn't seen him.

Mark became alarmed and drove the 20 miles to Bayfield. Dylan's friends there hadn't seen him either. Mark called Elaine Redwine and went to the Bayfield Marshal's Office.

Reports discounted

Searches for Dylan began that evening. Since then, hundreds of locals and more than 50 task-force members from multiple local law enforcement agencies, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the FBI have been checking vacant cabins and knocking on the doors of homes tucked into the tall pines.

Several possible sightings of Dylan were reported early on, but those have been discounted.

Lt. Ray Shupe, a spokesman for the task force, said the group has broken into teams this weekend. One is looking into all information that has come into a tip line; another is investigating the registered sex offenders who live in the Vallecito area. There are nine of them in Vallecito and Bayfield. Another team is combing through videos and photographs taken along the road from Vallecito to Durango on the day Dylan went missing.

One of the possibilities they are pursuing is the possibility that Dylan might have been picked up while hitchhiking, Shupe said.

Mark Redwine is not being called a suspect. He allowed investigators to search his home even before they obtained a search warrant for a thorough search. He also voluntarily sat down and was interviewed by investigators.

"We went through everything moment by moment," he said.

Meanwhile, locals are holding vigils, posting Facebook messages on a Save Missing Dylan Redwine page and churning out royal-blue ribbons with his name and the tip-line number — anything to stay busy and keep some hope alive.

"Yeah, like really, I would say people up here still have hope that he'll be found," said Raelynn Elkins, whose family runs the Vallecito Lake Country Market and La Comida Ranchera restaurant.

In his home, still jumbled from a 12-hour search by investigators several days ago, Mark is having a harder time holding on to that hope.

"Reality starting to set in"

And he is trying to deal with the added weight of knowing that some people think he had something to do with his son's disappearance because he was the last one to see him. He has contacted a criminal-defense attorney to help him with that. And he said he is helping in the search in any way he can.

"I just want my son back," he said. "I know it's crossing all our minds — reality is starting to set in that that may not be a possibility."

Another large search Saturday for missing 13-year-old Dylan Redwine failed to find the boy or any new clues.

More than 260 volunteers joined law enforcement in the search on Saturday in La Plata County, working in small groups.

Saturday's search focused on several miles on either side of La Plata County Road 240, also known as Florida Road. The road is a common route between Durango and Vallecito, where Dylan was last seen.

Dylan had been staying with his father, Mark Redwine, in Vallecito near Bayfield as part of a court-ordered Thanksgiving holiday visit. Mark Redwine, who lives about 22 miles north of Durango, told investigators that he left the home to run some errands and when he returned four hours later, he said, Dylan was gone.

Investigators said in a news release from La Plata County Sheriff's office, that it wasn't a tip that led them to the search area, just an urgency to cover more ground before snow fell.

Dozens of items were flagged by searchers. Of those, 10 were collected by investigators "for future reference," according to the news release.

The release also conveyed thanks from the Redwine family to all who helped in the search.

DURANGO, Colo.—Authorities say a weekend search for a missing 13-year-old boy in southwestern Colorado has turned up a handful of clues.

The La Plata County Sheriff's Office says about 300 people searched an area between Durango and Vallecito on Saturday for clues in the disappearance of Dylan Redwine.

Investigators say that of dozens of items flagged by searchers, 10 were collected for future reference in the case.

Dylan was reported missing Nov. 19 and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and a "Duke Blue Devils" baseball cap. The boy's father, Mark Redwine, says he left his son at his Vallecito-area home while he ran errands.

Dylan lives with his mother in Colorado Springs but was visiting his dad for Thanksgiving as part of a court order. Authorities don't believe the boy ran away.

DURANGO, Colo. - Authorities are warning of a Facebook ransom scam trying get people to pay money for the release of Dylan Redwine, a 13-year-old who vanished in southwest Colorado last month.

The La Plata County Sheriff's Office is telling the public to not fall for the scam run by someone claiming to be "Abass Gadafi," a new resident of the Bayfield area.

The scammer, who sends messages to people's Facebook pages, claims to be the "boss of a kidnapper gang" who is holding Dylan Redwine captive and wants $1,000 to release a photo of Dylan and demands another $4,000 for the teen's release. The scammer tells people to wire the money via Western Union to an address in the United Kingdom, sheriff's officials said.

"This is a scam," Sheriff's Capt. Jim Ezzell said Monday. "Do not send any money." Anyone who has been contacted by the scammer is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 970-385-2900.

The Sheriff's Office, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies have formed a task force that officials say is conducting a criminal investigation into the teen's Nov. 19 disappearance from his father's Vallecito home near Durango.

Investigators say Dylan did not run away, but they have not shared details on how they reached that conclusion.

The task force has mobilized wide-ranging land, air and water searches for the missing boy involving hundreds of volunteers.

On Saturday, about 300 people searched 60 miles along roadways between Durango and Vallecito for clues in the boy's disappearance.

Out of dozens of items flagged by searchers, about 10 are being evaluated for their value in the investigation, Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Dan Bender said.

Dozens of investigators on the Dylan Redwine Task Force continue to follow up on aspects of the ongoing investigation in Dylan’s disappearance, Bender said. The volume of tips received on the tip-line is keeping several investigators, both locally and out of the area, busy. Tips have come in from across the United States and include information about theories, items, locations and persons.

Citizens who have information that may aid in the search for Dylan are asked to leave a voicemail message on the Dylan Redwine Tip Line at 970-382-7511.

If a citizen wants a return call from law enforcement, they must leave their contact information, but anonymous tips are also acceptable. The recorded tip line is not a manned telephone number and it is not a way to get information about the search.

Poster: I found some details in the following post that I've not read elsewhere - such as Dylan's phone not pinging after 8:00 PM the night he arrived and the father's alleged past of child abuse, violence and drug and alcohol abuse. Also I read a 'snipppet' somewhere else referencing the FBI not even finding a single hair belonging to Dylan at his father's house. Now I have to look for the official reports of these allegations and statements but thought I'd post the details that were in this report:

New details are emerging out of the investigation in to the disappearance of 13 year old Dylan Redwine. On Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 Dylan Redwine was driven to the Colorado Springs, CO. airport by his mother and flown to Durango, CO. to spent "Court Ordered" time with his father Mark Redwine who lives alone in Vallecito, CO.

First, Dylan did not want to spend time with his father. And when he arrived at the Durango airport he told his Dad he wanted to visit some friends who live in Bayfield, CO., about 40 miles from where his father lives now because when Dylan's parents were married they lived in Bayfield. Dylan had gone to school in Bayfield, CO., but his father told him "not today".

They went to the Durango, CO. Walmart where a photo was taken off the store security camera showing Dylan looking sad, wearing a black t-shirt, black nylon basketball shorts, black tennis shoes and a white and blue cap. That photo can be viewed if you Google "Dylan Redwine" and it is the last known photo of him since Nov. 18, 2012.

At 8pm that night (Nov. 18th) Dylan's cell phone stopped pinging a local cell tower. In order for this to happen someone had to either remove the cell phone's battery or destroy the cell phone. Even if you power down the cell phone, i.e., turn it "off" it still sends a ping.

The following morning at 6:30am Dylan's father, Mark Redwine, said he looked in on Dylan and saw that he was sleeping. Mr. Redwine says that he left the house to run errands. We have seen the videos of Mark Redwine around town alone running errands being very visible. When Mr. Redwine returned home at 11:30am he claims that Dylan was gone. He claims he drove all over the area looking for Dylan, and called several of Dylan's local friends. No one had seen him.

At 4:30pm Mr. Redwine called his ex-wife Elaine complaining that 13 year old Dylan had disappeared. Elaine called the authorities from her home in Colorado Springs, CO.

The La Plata County Sheriff was called in, as was the FBI child abduction task force. After searching for several days they informed Mr. Redwine they were going to search his home. Apparently nothing incriminating was found at the father's house. The FBI asked both parents to cooperate by taking a polygraph test. The mother passed, the father's polygraph test came back "inconclusive".

After several days of land searches, searches by plane and helicopter the authorities sent divers in to a local lake and used sonar. The authorities then requested help from the public, for car dash cams of the area, highway cams, videos of all kinds to search for clues in to the mysterious disappearance of 13 year old Dylan Redwine.

They learned the father has a criminal record for child abuse, assault, criminal menacing and disorderly conduct out of Adams County in 2003. They learned the father is a alcoholic with a drug abuse problem. That he is unemployed.

When Dylan went missing on Monday, Nov. 19, his mother immediately told the authorities that she was afraid Dylan may have said something to his father and that his father did something bad to Dylan. The father has been evasive and his story has holes in it. First, the cell phone stopped pinging the cell phone tower at 8pm Sunday, Nov. 18 and did not ping again. Dylan was not seen by anyone after he left the Walmart in Durango, CO to take the highway ride to Vallecito, CO. where his father lives. His Dad claims he saw Dylan asleep in bed on Monday, Nov. 19 at 6:30am but this appears to be a lie because Dylan's cell phone stopped the night before at 8pm. Would Dylan remove the battery from his cell phone? We don't think so.

As the authorities continue their investigation Mr. Redwine hired a criminal defense attorney. Even though the authorities told him he is not a suspect.

Last week psychic medium John Edward, who claims to speak with the dead, watched the Nancy Grace show when she was covering Dylan Redwine's disappearance. He (John Edward) called the La Plata County Sheriff in Colorado and said he wanted to speak with Dylan's mother, but only to her, and only in person. He arrived in Colorado Springs, CO. by way of a private jet that landed after dark and met with Dylan's mother privately then within a hour and a half of his arrival he (John Edward) boarded the same private jet and left Colorado for destination unknown. There was no media coverage of the John Edward meeting. And the family has not given a statement so we do not know what he told Dylan's mother. But we know the FBI was in the house while John Edward was there. John Edward has not made any statement either.

Over the course of the past two weeks+ there have been very little clues in what happened to Dylan. His mother Elaine Redwine has been very vocal publicly about her suspicion against his father. She believes Mark Redwine did something to the teenager -- even attributing it to jealousy and possessiveness as they are going through a custody battle. Statistically, this does raise red flags since custodial battles are frequent motivators in parental abductions or crimes against children.

The latest update involves the polygraph test. Police won't confirm or deny the claims that Mark took a polygraph test -- and the results being inconclusive. These are claims that were made on the air to Nancy Grace by Dylan's mother.

It's hard to discern bitterness from genuine concern in this case. Elaine and Mark Redwine went through a nasty divorce and their custody battle appears to be equally, if not more, nasty. So it's hard to tell whether or not Elaine Redwine is serious in her public suspicions against Mark. Could this man truly be responsible for the disappearance of his own son? Seeing as though cadaver dogs have hit on the boy's scent at a nearby lake, is it possible that Mark murdered him? These are thoughts that one has to consider while looking at all of the possibilities in the case.

While statistically the father of the boy seems to be the most logical target of suspicion, there is also another variable in the case -- Dylan is believed to had been hitchhiking to meet friends the day he vanished. Could he have met foul play while hitching a ride? This is so highly likely that it's impossible to ignore, so I really find it hard to speculate on the father being responsible or the possibility that he was abducted. What I do know is that I agree with officials on the case who have said that it's unlikely for Dylan to have runaway on his own. The police also say that Mark is not a suspect and has been cooperating."

DURANGO - 9Wants to Know has learned that the family of a missing Southwest Colorado boy has a history of domestic violence.

Dylan Redwine disappeared on Nov. 19, one day after he arrived at his dad's Vallecito area home on a court-ordered visitation for Thanksgiving.

9News obtained court records dating back to 2005 showing three requests for protection orders.

On Oct. 7, 2005, Dylan's dad Mark Redwine requested protection against him mom Elaine saying she was "drinking and driving with kids." A judge temporarily ordered her not to drive the kids around or even be with them while under the influence.

For the next two years, the couple went through divorce proceedings. In 2008, mom, Elaine Redwine, claimed she had a confrontation with her ex-husband Mark in the early hours of July 4. She wrote, "He was very drunk and grabbed me and took a swing at his son." She said Dylan reacted and hit Mark.

In another protective order request, Mark claims he was victimized later that same day. "I was attacked and beaten then left for hours until I woke up," he wrote. Mark says his older son Cory admitted he was responsible for the beating.

How does this all fit into the search for missing Dylan?

Mark Redwine told 9Wants to Know over the phone that he doesn't think his family's past troubles should be a consideration now.

A spokesman for the La Plata County Sheriff's Office would not comment on what investigators have done to probe into the family's past.

However, the spokesman did say authorities must look at every possible scenario in Dylan's disappearance.

What Do Dylan Redwine and Jessica Ridgeway Have in Common?

Thirteen-year-old Dylan Redwine still hasn't been found, but there are some new updates in his case that are raising some eyebrows. Kimberly Kay Bowman removed a Facebook page dedicated to the missing teen at the request of his mother, due to wanting the focus to remain with another page. There is probably a reason for this considering the woman has ties to the Jessica Ridgeway case in a less than positive way.

Kimberly Kay Bowman was accused of profiting off merchandise making use of Jessica's name and likeness related to her disappearance (later found dead). She was reportedly doing this against the wishes of the slain Colorado girl's family. In fact, the family of the slain child had attorney's contact Bowman and her group 'Colorado's Missing Children Foundation.'

This source says that Bowman claimed to have ended her "involvement" with the CMCF, but she used the acronym on the Facebook page she moderated in dedication to Dylan Redwine. So what's going on with this lady? Was she intending on making money off of the Redwine search or is she simply a goodhearted sumaritan who is being misunderstood by the family members of missing kids?

As for the search for the missing Colorado boy, there is now a reward being offered in the amount of $5,000. This amount is a donation that was given to Crime Stoppers by an anonymous person who wants to see Dylan found. It would be nice if everyone had such kindness in their hearts. Perhaps then, Dylan wouldn't be missing.

It would be nice to know if there are any investigative updates in the search for the boy. Officials have acknowledged that they believe he was abducted, and have searched the home of his father -- but have clarified that he is not a suspect. Both parents have so far been cooperative with detectives. So what happened to Dylan?

DURANGO - The reward for help finding a missing Colorado boy has grown to $20,000.

Dylan Redwine, 13, of Colorado Springs, was reported missing Nov. 19 after a court-ordered visit with his Dad in the Durango area.

The boy's father, Mark Redwine, said he left his son at his home while he ran errands. Mark said when he returned, Dylan was gone.

The Durango Herald reported that $4,000 was added to the reward fund by a family friend this week.

The newspaper said on Wednesday, on the Find Missing Dylan Redwine Facebook page, a message labeled “from Dylan’s Mom” said, “Good morning my sweet Dylan. Christmas is over, and it was so empty without you. We are doing everything we can to find you or get to the person who is responsible for taking you. I am so angry at the person who ‘lost’ you. You should be able to trust that your parents will protect you and keep you safe. Just know that we will find you and keep you safe again as we have for many years. Don’t give up Dylan and stay strong.”

The page administrator said the post was removed a few hours later, "due to the negativity and judgement that post was bringing to the page." (Me: Duh, huh?)

I thought the post was pretty good - I mean it was written by the mother of a boy who is missing, and probably because of a judge who mandated that Dylan must visit his father during Thanksgiving week. I just don't get why it would be deleted. Under the circumstances I find it quite conservative.

Where is Dylan Redwine? It's been nearly a month since he vanished from his father's home, and there hasn't been any sighting of him since. Over the course of the past month, police have acknowledged that the missing teen did not run away on his own, indicating that he was abducted or suffered some kind of foul play -- but what exactly happened to him? With there being so few updates in the case, it's hard to speculate on a positive note.

This source shares a host of clarifications as well as a look into the life of the missing 13-year-old Colorado boy. Dylan is described by classmates as being friends with "literally everybody," and he enjoyed spending time with his friends like many young men his age.

Something disturbing sticks out from the above source article, however, and that's the mention of his hitchhiking habits. Dylan is described as being "the one to stick his thumb and hitch" he and his friends a ride home in the rain. It's been long theorized that he may have been abducted while hitchhiking, and that's indeed a big possibility considering it's in his nature to do so.

As for Mark Redwine, the boy's father, there are a lot of questions in online discussion forums about his alibi, his story and whether or not he'd go as far as harming his own son. Even Dylan's mother has outwardly and publicly accused him of "doing something" to the missing lad. However, Mark's story truly doesn't seem out of the ordinary for a parent of a teenage boy. He said that when he woke up the day Dylan vanished, the teen was asleep. Instead of waking him, he ran his errands and let the boy sleep in. Who hasn't allowed their teenagers to "sleep in" while they nipped down to the store for errands? When he returned, Dylan was missing.

The above photo is a screencap of text messages sent to Dylan Redwine shortly before he was reported missing. It should be pointed that Dylan hadn't responded to his friend since the night before his father reported him missing. While his father's story isn't out of the ordinary, it should be considered that the hitchhiking story would make more sense had Dylan actually texted his friend the morning he vanished. Would the boy not text him to say "hey, I'm on my way, you better be awake."? Why would Dylan just leave and hitchhike without even texting his friend that he was on his way to visit? That is why the text history seems rather suspicious.

I'd like to wear "magic", rose colored glasses in cases like this and pretend that his father had a healthy and loving attitude toward his son. Unfortunately in cases where a child is court ordered to visit a parent, a HUGE red flag should get our attention. We choose to ignore that the dynamics between a parent and a child can be dangerous. And the protests of the "protective" parent - and usually the child as well, are subjugated to the will of a court that won't send flowers to a funeral if they make the wrong choice. The news is full of angry fathers killing kids that would rather be with their mom. Read the news. How many kids do we have to lose before we wake up? Wasn't his last text to his mom?

Lets look at the facts: Dylan stopped texting the same day he came to visit his dad. The texts stopped that very night. Dylan was a texting fiend. Dylan did not want to visit his dad, this has been confirmed. Yes, parent do errands while leaving their teens at home-but a FOUR HOUR errand? And on the same day that your son who you haven't seen in months has come to visit you? Dylan also was an early riser and his father said that he couldn't rouse Dylan from his sleep. Keep looking at the dad...we need to bring Dylan home.........................................

Dylan Redwine Has Vanished

Dylan Redwine is a 13-year-old boy who vanished from his father’s home in Vallecito, Colorado, on November 19, the morning after he had arrived for a court-ordered holiday visit with his father. He hasn’t been seen since.

I have wanted to write about Dylan since this situation developed, but I wasn’t sure what to say. As a person naturally inclined toward problem solving, my tendency is to speculate about what happened to him and try to solve the mystery. But I am not privy to what the investigators know, so my speculations would be uninformed and potentially damaging. I can say that our community has been stunned by his disappearance, and he remains in our hearts and on our minds.

His Missing Person notice has been posted on many store windows. You can’t walk around town without seeing it. And our local newspaper, The Durango Herald, publishes periodic updates on the case. The latest has nothing new to report on Dylan’s disappearance but notes that the reward for information leading to an arrest or information about his whereabouts has grown to $20,000.

That is a substantial sum of money, and it seems likely that someone out there knows where Dylan is or what happened to him, but so far that someone hasn’t been enticed by the reward to come forward.

It is sad to say, but in America as a whole Dylan’s disappearance is not unusual. According to a Department of Justice study (2002), nearly 800,000 children were reported missing in the United States during a one-year period. Most were runaways who returned on their own unharmed. Over 200,000 were the victims of family (usually parental) abductions, and 58,000 were taken by non-family members. Just over one hundred of these missing children were the victims of stereotypical abductions, where the perpetrator transports the child fifty miles or more, then kills the child, demands ransom, or intends to keep the child permanently (www.missingkids.com).

It’s not clear which of these categories Dylan might fall into, although it’s highly unlikely that he’s a runaway, and he doesn’t appear to have been abducted by a family member. In any case, Dylan is not a statistic. He was a member of our community. He went to our schools. His friends were other children in our community. Until recently, he lived in our part of Colorado. Then his parents underwent a bitter divorce, and his mother moved with Dylan and his older brother to another part of the state.

Be that as it may, he disappeared while he was in our midst. And that makes it personal. We have watched anxiously as the police searched for him. They’ve done a thorough investigation. They’ve brought in tracker dogs. They’ve sent divers into Vallecito Lake. They’ve set up hot lines and responded to thousands of leads. The area where Dylan disappeared is mountainous and heavily forested. On the chance that he might have wandered into the woods and gotten lost, the authorities searched likely areas where he might have gone and found nothing.

Then, in early December, before it snowed and got bitterly cold here, a group of citizens organized a more extensive search. They sent notices on Facebook and in the newspaper and asked for one hundred volunteers. More than 350 local people showed up.

And found nothing.

Since then the temperatures have dropped below zero for days, and it has snowed heavily in our mountains. If Dylan went into the forest, it seems certain that he won’t be coming back out.

We would like to believe that Dylan is alive and unharmed, that he will return soon to those who care for him, but with each passing day that hope fades. So we are left with the real possibility that someone has harmed him in some way, that he hasn’t returned to us because he isn’t able to.

I can’t imagine deliberately harming anyone, much less a child. I believe that we adults—all of us—are the guardians of children—not only our own children but all children. We are responsible for their welfare, so it is unfathomable to me that an adult could, with intention and forethought, threaten, beat, kidnap, torture, kill, or in any other way harm a child. What happened in Newtown, Connecticut, is completely incomprehensible to me. That a young man, whatever his mental state, could walk into a classroom full of first graders and murder twenty of them with an assault rifle is so beyond my capacity to comprehend it that I wonder if Adam Lanza and I belong to the same species.

Nor can I imagine exploiting sad situations, like the New York woman who’s been accused of setting up a fake Internet charity for Newtown victims and funneling the money into her Paypal account. What kind of person does that sort of thing?

In his prose poem “Desiderata,” Max Ehrmann wrote, “Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.” I believe this is true. Many people do strive for high ideals and heroic behavior abounds.

But the sad truth about humanity is that we also have a dark side. People without conscience walk among us. Scoundrels will exploit love and good intentions when it suits their self-serving purposes. And now and then a person lacking scruples, honor, and decency will harm a child. As Freeman Dyson wrote in his great book Disturbing the Universe, there will always be people who will s**t on the stars. There are demons among us. There always have been and there always will be.

Dylan Redwine has vanished. We don’t know where he is or what happened to him. I am a father and a grandfather, and I’ve been fortunate never to have had a missing child in my family because what I also can’t imagine is the anguish a parent must feel when his or her child has vanished. Having a child die must be difficult enough. I can’t fathom how hard it must be to wake up every day not knowing what happened to your child or whether he or she will ever return. So my heart goes out to those who love and care for Dylan.
