"Baby John Doe" - 1 Month - Waterloo IA

Waterloo IA ---- Police have arrested a Waterloo teenager after the
infant he was looking after was taken to the hospital for a head
injury.

Police said Robert Reco Holmes Jr. and the mother took the
1-month-old baby boy to Covenant Medical Center on Feb. 18.

The child had facial and head swelling, according to court
records, and doctors determined the infant was suffering from a
subdural hematoma.

Holmes, 18, the mother's boyfriend, was looking after the child
at the time of the injury, and he gave different accounts about
what happened, according to court records.

Doctors determined the injuries couldn't have happened by
accident and were likely the result of physical abuse on more than
one occasion. Police records did not indicate a specific location
or locations where the abuse may have occurred.

Holmes, of 908 Mulberry St., was arrested Tuesday for felony
child endangerment causing serious injury.

Holmes had been arrested in March for child endangerment in
connection with crack cocaine police found near a day crib while
investigating the child's injuries.

Honestly, why was this teenage boy looking after a 1 month old? Is it just me?

No it's not just you Kiwi. Sadly, alot of 18 year olds today are just not mature enough to be left alone with infants. I am not referring to every 18 year old, so please don't anyone throw stones at me. But come on, I find it becoming a more common thing these days, with my childrens friends, they are all having babies in high school. Don't have a job and most are living with momma and daddy to raise their grandchildren.
