"Toddler John" GENE - 2 yo - Fort Pierce FL

Fort Pierce FL ---- Markeia Gene, 20, of the 500 block of Mades Drive, was
arrested Thursday on charges of severe child abuse and neglect,
according to an arrest affidavit.

Gene told officials her two year-old son was injured in May during a
dog attack, resulting in injuries across his upper back. She took him to
a clinic, which reported to the Department of Children and Families the
injuries on his upper back and scars on his lower back that looked like
the child had been whipped, the affidavit stated.

A doctor’s examination revealed the boy had fractured ribs, anemia,
and suffered from malnutrition, the affidavit stated. “Fresh bruising
and lacerations” were also found on his chest and buttocks.

During an interview with Fort Pierce police, Gene admitted to
“cutting him up,” according to the affidavit.

Gene was transported to the St. Lucie County Jail and her bail was
$70,000.
