Investigators are searching for two children abducted from a California apartment complex Thursday night, police said. Authorities issued an Amber Alert for the boys, who were abducted while taking out the trash in an alley outside the family home in Anaheim, California, said Sgt. Rick Martinez with the Anaheim Police Department. The mother of the abducted children, who was taking out the trash with them, says she "didn't recognize the men," but reported that two men jumped out of a 2010 silver or pewter Dodge Caravan, grabbed the kids and then drove away, Martinez said. The alleged abduction was reported at 7:50 p.m. (10:50 p.m. ET), police said. Witnesses described the suspects as a man in his mid-20s and another man in his mid-40s, police said.
Police are looking for Justin Quinones, a 2-year-old, Hispanic male who is 2 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 38 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes, and Jacob Quinones, a 4-year-old, Hispanic male who is 3 feet tall, weighs 62 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.

Two boys, aged two and four, were abducted by two men in Anaheim, Calif., authorities said, as they reportedly went with their mother to take out the trash. An amber alert was issued after the children were taken just before 8 p.m. Thursday. The suspects were thought to be driving a silver 2009 Dodge Caravan with a dent on the right front door and tinted windows.Anaheim police later described the case as a parental abduction and said they believed the boys, Justin Quinones, two, and his brother, Jacob, four, had been taken by their father.Their mother was taking out the trash from her apartment complex in the 3300 block of West Orange Avenue — directly across from Western High School — when the abduction happened. She said the boys had followed her out into the alley where the trash can is kept.Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez reported that the van stopped, two men got out and snatched the children. They then took them into the vehicle and drove away.Buzz Lightyear T-shirts

Police Search For Jacob, Justin Quinones

POSTED: 4:33 am PDT October 8, 2010
UPDATED: 5:18 am PDT October 8, 2010
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The alleged kidnapping of Justin Quinones, 2, and Jacob Quinones, 4, in the presence of their mother in Anaheim was "a parental abduction" carried out by the boys' biological father and paternal grandfather, police said Friday morning.

Abraham Fernandez, 23, and his father, Louis Mendoza Fernandez, 52, are both believed to be residents of Houston, Texas, Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn said.

As of 4:30 a.m. Friday there were no sign of the boys, the suspects, or the recent-model Dodge Caravan van they were last seen in Thursday night.

The Amber Alert search remained in affect across Southern California, Dunn said.

"We don't know the whereabouts of the children and we're very concerned," Dunn told City News Service. Dunn said a motive had not yet been identified for the alleged abduction.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Police said they have found a van that was the subject of a nationwide Amber Alert after two small boys allegedly were abducted by their father and grandfather. Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez said Friday that the gray Dodge Caravan was found, but declined to say where.

The men and boys, ages 2 and 4, remain missing.Martinez said he believes the four are in the general area and may be trying to hide with friends. Police have identified the suspects as the boys' biological father, 23-year-old Abraham Fernandez, and his father, 52-year-old Louis Mendoza Fernandez.

The men live in Texas.

Authorities on Friday afternoon canceled an Amber Alert for two young Anaheim boys allegedly abducted in a family dispute after the vehicle involved in the incident, a silver Dodge Caravan, was located, a police spokesman said.
However, the search continues for the children and for their father and grandfather, who are suspected of nabbing the youngsters in front of their mother's house on West Orange Avenue, police said.
Sgt. Rick Martinez, an Anaheim Police Department spokesman, said the Amber Alert was dropped once the vehicle was discovered since such widespread alerts are tied for to specific vehicles. Because of the investigation, he declined to say where the minivan was discovered but said that authorities believe it is a rental vehicle.
Justin Quinones, 2, and Jacob Quinones, 4, allegedly were taken by the boys' biological father and grandfather late Thursday but Martinez said there is no reason to believe the children are in imminent danger. "There is nothing to indicate that," he said.

Police think that the father, Abraham Fernandez, 23, and grandfather, Louis Mendoza Fernandez, 52, who are from Houston, remain somewhere in Southern California with the children.Martinez warned that anyone who helps to hide them could face felony charges.

There has been no sign of the suspects or the missing children."We don't know where they are," Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez said, although detectives believe the suspects remained in Southern California after abducting the children.

On Friday, a Dodge Caravan used in the abduction was returned to a car rental agency. Sunday afternoon, police arrested 26-year-old David Nicholas at his Monrovia home on suspicion of conspiracy, Martinez said. He is being held at the Anaheim Detention Facility in lieu of $1 million bail.

Martinez declined to divulge details about Nicholas' alleged role in the abduction.

The boys' mother, Azucena Quiñones, has pleaded with the abductors to return her children. "All I want from you is to bring my children back," Quiñones said during an interview on Friday with Univision, adding that she would not press charges against them.

The two boys were with their mother taking out the trash outside of an apartment complex in the 3300 block of West Orange Avenue at the time of the incident. Two men got out of a van and each grabbed a boy, according to police.
Justin is described as 2 feet 6 inches tall, 38 pounds, with short brown hair. Jacob is described as 3 feet tall, 62 pounds, also with short brown hair. Both boys were wearing Buzz Lightyear T-shirts and gray shorts.
Abraham Fernandez, 23, was described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 160 pounds with gray eyes and long hair in a ponytail. He was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans. Louis Mendoza Fernandez, 52, was described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, about 175 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. He had a light beard or a goatee and was wearing a baseball cap.

The suspects are believed to have cut their hair and may have possibly changed their hair color, Martinez said.
The boys' parents dated for seven years in Texas until the mother left to move to Anaheim with her parents several months ago, Martinez said. Police don't know which of the parents has custody of the children.
Police have yet to determine a motive behind the abduction.

Anyone with information about the kidnapping should call the Anaheim Police Department at 714-765-1900.

SoCal couple plead not guilty in boys' kidnapping

The Associated Press
Posted: 10/14/2010 06:33:07 AM PDT

ANAHEIM, Calif.—A couple has pleaded not guilty to helping a father abduct two missing Anaheim boys. David Nicholas of Monrovia entered pleas Wednesday to kidnapping and child abduction. His wife, Linda Fernandez, pleaded not guilty to being an accessory after the fact. They remain jailed Thursday. Police believe 2-year-old Justin Quinones and 4-year-old Jacob Quinones were taken last week by their father and grandfather, Abraham and Louis Fernandez of Houston. The Orange County Register says they were pulled into a van as their mother took out the trash and one was snatched screaming from her arms. Prosecutors contend that Nicholas rented the van and the couple hid the boys in their home briefly. Linda Fernandez is a cousin of the father.

JACOB and JUSTIN QUINONES - 4 and 2 yo - Anaheim CA/TX alerted Empty Re: JACOB and JUSTIN QUINONES - 4 and 2 yo - Anaheim CA/TX alerted

Post by TomTerrific0420 Thu Jan 06, 2011 4:15 pm

The father and grandparents
of two Anaheim boys, who pleaded guilty to their role in abducting the
toddlers, will have to pay back police for the estimated $150,000 it
cost to search for the missing children, it was reported today.

The cost of the multi-state search -- when 2-year-old Justin
and 4-year- old Jacob Quinones were taken from their mother's Anaheim
apartment complex on Oct. 7 -- will be split between Abraham Fernandez,
the boys' father, Louis Mendoza Fernandez, the boys' grandfather, and
Elizabeth Fernandez, the boys' grandmother, police and prosecutors told
the Orange County Register.

"Especially in the initial week we had officers literally
working around the clock because we didn't know about the safety of
these children," Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez told the newspaper.
"We traveled around portions of the United States trying to locate these
people."

The Fernandezes pleaded guilty Tuesday to two felony counts of
depriving custody of a child or right to visitation, according to
Orange County court records. They were sentenced to jail time and
probation.

Two felony counts of kidnapping for each were dismissed,
according to court records. Abraham Fernandez, 23, and Louis Fernandez,
who will turn 53 Thursday, were sentenced to 270 days in jail and three
years of probation. Elizabeth Fernandez was sentenced to90 days in jail and three years of probation.

The boys were taken from their mother, Azucena Quinones, near her home at 3300 W. Orange Ave. in Anaheim on Oct. 7.

Abraham Fernandez and Louis Fernandez drove in a Dodge Caravan
to an alley near the apartment, grabbed the boys and drove away,
according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

The boys were reunited with their mother on Nov. 4, after
Elizabeth Fernandez brought the children to a courthouse in Harris
County, Texas, according to Anaheim police.

Abraham Fernandez surrendered to Texas authorities on Oct. 26. Louis Fernandez was arrested Dec. 3, according to jail records.

The boys' mother moved from Texas to Anaheim with her sons about a year ago, according to police and prosecutors.

The decision to recover costs of any investigation is
determined on a case-by-case basis, Deputy District Attorney Jim Bacin
told The Register.

Pre-planning and hiding that took place before and after the
Anaheim abduction were factors in the decision to seek restitution,
Bacin said. Anaheim police had to put more time and effort into the case
than they would have otherwise, Bacin said.

Recovering costs of the investigation was important given the economic situation faced by police, Martinez said.

"When money is stretched so tight, even in the police budget,
and we are doing the same amount of work with less manpower, the cost is
a serious issue," Martinez told The Register.
