"Infant Jane" DASHER - 15 months - Jacksonville FL

Police looking for a missing baby found the child stuffed in a gym bag locked in the back of a car, and the child's mother has been arrested.Leendra Glene' Dasher, 21, called the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Oct. 5 to report her 15-month-old daughter missing. The child was found shortly afterwards.The girl is being cared for by relatives and is doing well, according to John Harrell with the Department of Children and Families.The bag in which the child was found measures 18 by 10 by 10 inches. According to a JSO report, Dasher told police she put the child in the crib at 11 p.m. the night before, and was not awakened by any noises during the night.She also said she had been alone in her apartment with the child since 3 p.m. and nobody else had access to the child.Dasher denied putting the child in the bag and putting the bag in the car.However, because the apartment was locked from the inside and nobody else could have gotten to the child, police arrested Dasher, charging her with aggravated child abuse.She is being held on $150,000 bond as she awaits her arraignment Oct. 27.Harrell said the agency is looking into the case, which he called "very disturbing.""We were alarmed any mother would treat her child in an inhumane way," Harrell said.Harrell also said the child is in good condition and is now staying with relatives.Neighbors in Dasher's Mandarin apartment complex, Camri Green Apartments, were shocked at the accusations. JaNyce Whiteside lives next door to Dasher and noticed police last week. "It's hard to say. You don't know the premise behind what is going on (with your neighbors)," said Whiteside. Police have not named a motive in this case.
