INDIANAPOLIS -- A 10-year-old boy who was
missing for several hours Thursday, prompting an extensive search, was
found early Thursday afternoon when he walked into an Indianapolis Hospital, police said.Search
and rescue crews crawled through neighborhoods on the city's north side
in search of Abdou Thiam, who had been last seen at about 8:30 a.m. in
the 6600 block of Waterloo Lane, 6News' Jack Rinehart reported."We
went grid by grid, house by house, trying to locate him, talking to
witnesses that may have seen him, the last time they saw him," said
Officer Kendale Adams. Police said Thiam was walking to New
Augusta Public Academy at 6450 Rodebaugh Road, but ended up about four
miles away at St. Vincent Hospital on 86th Street.Hospital
officials said the boy walked into the hospital just before 1 p.m.
complaining of cold and pain. He was checked out for hypothermia. It's
unclear if he had any other injuries."He has alleged that there
are some injuries. Right now, we're investigating whether that's from
walking or some other potential source," Adams said.Police said Thiam left a note saying he was leaving. Additional details of the note weren't released.Crews
were especially concerned about the boy's well-being because
temperatures were in the single digits Thursday morning, with wind
chills well below zero."We had a lot of resources out there
looking for this young man. It is a very good feeling to know that the
community, the media and all the other resources that went in to find
this young man were successful," Adams said. "The system worked."
