Re: KYRA SHOCKLEY and CHRISTOPHER ENDICOTT - 12 and 15 yo - Metcalfe (E of Bowling Green) KY
An Amber Alert has been issued for a boy and a girl after the boy's
guardians were found dead in southern Kentucky on Tuesday, state police
said. It is unclear if they were involved in their deaths.
Kentucky State Police spokesman Billy Gregory said 12-year-old Kyra
Shockley and 15-year-old Christopher Endicott were reported missing
after Endicott's guardians were found deceased at their residence in
Metcalfe County. The victims had been given custody of Endicott in
January, but were not related to Shockley.
"We are not sure if it was a double homicide or a homicide-suicide or
what it was. That is still kind of up in the air for us right now. We
don't have a lot of facts," Gregory said, adding that the cause of death
was not yet established. He said their first concern is the well-being
of the missing children.
The spokesman said Shockley and Endicott were not related to each
other, but it remains unclear if they were involved in the deaths. "They
are not related, but beyond that I do not know what the extend of the
relationship is," Gregory said.
Police are asking people to look out for the children and emphasized
that, in the case they were abducted, they could be traveling with other
people. "We just don't want people looking for two kids," Gregory said.
Police however have yet to find information leading to another person.
Shockley is described as a white female, weighs 110 pounds, stands
4-foot-8 and has blonde hair and hazel eyes. She has a scar on her left
eye and wears black eye glasses with diamonds on the side. Her current
clothing is unknown.
Endicott is described as a white male, weighs 250 pounds, stands
5-foot-11 and has a blonde buzz haircut and green eyes. He is believed
to be wearing blue jeans, a t-shirt with a dark colored ball cap and
multiple silly bands on each wrist.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Kentucky State Police Headquarters at 1-800-262-3717 or 911.

Subjects of AMBER Alert found; alert canceled
Mar 22, 2011 11:45 PM EDT
EDMONTON, KY (WAVE) - Just before 11 p.m., Kentucky State Police canceled an AMBER Alert for two Metcalfe County children that was issued after a couple who were the legal guardians of one of them were found slain in their home. 12-year-old Kyra Marie Leigh Ann Shockley and 15-year-old Christopher Lee Endicott are from Edmonton, KY and were found in rural part of the county.
KSP issued the AMBER Alert because they were not sure if the children may have been involved in the deaths or were in danger because of the double homicide.
According to police, the slain couple, now identified as Gary and Barbara Holloway, had been the legal guardians of Christopher Endicott since January. Kyra Shockley is believed to be a friend of Endicott.
The Holloways were found by relatives Tuesday afternoon in their home east of Edmonton.
Trooper William Gregory, public affairs officer for the KSP Columbia post, said both of the children are in protective custody.

Teen Charged In Couple's Murder
Police have charged a 15-year-old in the murder of a husband and wife in Edmonton County.
Police say they began searching for Kyra Shockley, 12, after her parents reported her missing early Tuesday morning. They believed she was with Christopher Endicott, 15. Officers went to the home of his legal guardians, Gary Holloway, 50, and Barbara Holloway, 51 on Jimmy Hubbard Road in Metcalfe County several times during the day, but nobody answered the door.
Family members went to the the Holloway's home and found them dead around 2 p.m. Shortly after, police issued an Amber Alert for Shockley and Endicott when police discovered the kids weren't at the house. The couple's 1997 Chevy Lumina was also gone.
Family members say the couple was shot to death.
A firefighter located the van in Barren County around 9:40 p.m. and contacted KSP. A short chase ended when the van crashed through a fence. Troopers apprehended Endicott and Shockley after a short foot chase.
After interviewing the 15-year-old, police arrested him. He faces murder charges, along with charges stemming from the chase. He was taken to the Adair County Youth Development Center.
Shockley was released into the custody of her parents.
Family members say Endicott was Gary Halloway's distant relative, and the couple was recently granted custody of the teen.

A teenage boy who was the subject of an Amber alert Tuesday was
charged Wednesday with murder in the deaths of his legal guardians.Investigators
say Christopher Endicott, 15, killed Gary Holloway, 50, and Barbara
Holloway, 51, fled in the couple's car and then led police on a brief
chase. B.J. Burton, the lead detective on the case, said the
killings, apparently, were part of a plan for Christopher to run off
with his girlfriend. Burton said there is no indication of physical
abuse or domestic violence that would have been a motive for the
killings. Burton said the two had discussed running off together, but they did not know where they were going."They planned it, but they hadn't planned it that far," Burton said.Burton
said it's not clear why the Holloways had to be killed in order for
them to be together. The detective would not say how the couple was
killed. The Holloways, who lived at 248 Jimmy Hubbard Road in
Edmonton, were found dead at the home by family members between 2 p.m.
and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. An Amber Alert was issued for Christopher
and Kyra Shockley, 12, who had been missing for more than three hours.
Shockley's parents had reported her missing. The alert stated that Kyra
and Christopher were "possibly involved in a double homicide."The
two kids were in the Holloway's 1997 Chevy Lumina which was missing. A
firefighter called state police about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday and said he was
behind the missing car.Kentucky State Police responded and a
short pursuit began. The vehicle drove off of the roadway and through a
fence. The two were apprehended after a short foot chase, according to
police.Christopher was arrested after interviews with state police detectives. Kyra was released to a parent. In
addition to murder, Christopher is charged with first-degree fleeing
and evading police; first-degree wanton endangerment; reckless driving;
driving without a license and third-degree criminal mischief. The boy was being held in the Adair County Youth Development Center. Police said the investigation is continuing and more charges could be forth coming pending a grand jury hearing. Investigators
have not said how the Holloways might have died. Autopsies on the two
bodies were scheduled at the state medical examiner's office in
Frankfort.

Slain Ky. couple banned teen from seeing girl
(AP)
– EDMONTON, Ky. (AP) — A troubled 15-year-old shot and killed relatives who had taken him in because his mother could not control him, then stole their car and fled with the younger girlfriend they had ordered him not to see, police and family members said.Gary and Barbara Holloway's adult son found them dead in their bed Tuesday. Police issued an Amber Alert for the teen and his 12-year-old girlfriend, saying they feared they might be in grave danger. They soon caught up to them after a volunteer firefighter spotted them in the car, the 15-year-old behind the wheel.
By Wednesday, in one of the strangest cases to arise from the system designed to find abducted children, the teen had been charged with murder in the Holloways' deaths.Family members said the boy was an eighth-grader at the local middle school who habitually got in trouble for bringing cigarettes to school, bullying other children, and talking back to his teachers.Barbara Holloway, his second cousin, had taken him in three months ago, said her sister, Ruby Whitehead.
Family members said his father is in prison.
"He's always been abandoned his whole life," said Elizabeth Osborn, a friend of the Holloway's son, Stephen. "... I guess the first people who showed him love, he didn't know how to take it. "Barbara Holloway would sometimes have to pick him up an hour after school had started because he had been suspended.
"They gave him everything in the world," Osborn said. "He kept getting suspended from school, and they still gave him everything.
"Then there was the relationship with the 12-year-old, which Osborn said both the Holloways and the girl's mother tried to end. There was no indication the girl was involved in the killing, and police said she was released after they questioned her.
"We had been trying to fight it and keep them apart," Osborn said. "Barb had grounded him from seeing her or talking to her.
"The state medical examiner's office said Wednesday preliminary autopsy results showed Gary Holloway, 50, died from multiple gunshot wounds and Barbara Holloway, 51, died of a single gunshot wound.
The teen was being held Wednesday at the Adair County Youth Development Center. In addition to murder, he is charged with fleeing and evading, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief, reckless driving and driving without a license. Authorities have not said whether he will be charged as an adult.
The Associated Press generally does not identify juveniles charged with crimes.
Osborn said she and Stephen Holloway discovered the bodies Tuesday when they went to check on Barbara and Gary Holloway because they could not reach them on the phone. She said $1,000 had been taken and someone had dropped off the couple's dog at an adult day care center.
"We walked in the house, and they were in the bed dead," she said.
They called police, who issued the Amber Alert, which described the Holloways' car. Volunteer firefighter Moe Hensley told The Associated Press he heard the alert several times on his way home, then spotted the car and called a dispatcher, who contacted state police.
"I happened to be in the right place at the right time," he said.
There was a short chase when police tried to pull the car over about 15 miles from where the Holloways were found, and the 15-year-old drove off the road. Police say he and the 12-year-old ran away but were caught quickly.
Whitehead, Barbara Holloway's sister, questioned the decision to issue the Amber Alert.
"It should have been more like, 'We need these two people caught right away,'" she said. "... Not an Amber Alert that made people think they were in danger because they were never in danger.
"But police defended the alert, saying they did not know exactly what had happened.
"At the onset of the investigation we had to consider every possible scenario, the possibility that they were perpetrators as well as victims," state police trooper Bill Gregory said.

Prosecutor to recommend that boy, 15, be tried as an adult in Metcalfe slayings
Mar 25, 2011
In this undated photo released by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children via The Courier-Journal, shows Christopher Endicott. Police are searching for Endicott, one of two children who may be in danger after a south-central Kentucky couple was found slain in their home. (AP Photo/National Center for Missing and Exploited Children via The Courier-Journal)
Prosecutors will recommend that a 15-year-old boy accused of killing a Metcalfe County couple be tried as an adult.
Under state law, there are several criteria under which a juvenile may be certified as a "youthful offender" to be tried in adult court.
One is that the juvenile was older than 14 and used a gun in a crime; another is that the juvenile was older than 14 and allegedly committed a Class A felony, said Karen Davis, commonwealth's attorney for Metcalfe and Barren counties. It would appear as though the teen charged in the double homicide falls within the youthful offender category on bothpoints, Davis said.Prosecutors and police have not released the teen's name since he was charged. However, he was identified as Christopher L. Endicott in an Amber Alert police issued to search for him before his arrest. Endicott is charged with murder in the shooting deaths of Gary Holloway, 50, and Barbara Holloway, 51, about 3 a.m. Tuesday at the mobile home where the three lived.
Davis said she and Metcalfe County Attorney Sharon Bowles Howard had agreed to recommend that a judge certify the teen to be tried as an adult.
The judge will decide whether to transfer the case from juvenile court, where cases are confidential. That decision could be weeks away.
If Endicott is tried as an adult and convicted, he would face harsher penalties than he would in juvenile court. However, he won't face the death penalty if he is convicted of murder. The U.S. Supreme Court has barred the death penalty for murderers who are younger than 18.
Family members of the slain couple hope the teen will be tried as an adult.
"He did an adult thing," said Ruby Whitehead of Cave City, a sister of Barbara Holloway. "He needs some real bad penalties.
"Family members have said the Holloways were killed in their bed with a rifle Gary Holloway had used to hunt deer.
The couple had taken in Endicott — a second cousin of Barbara Holloway — because his father is in prison and his mother has not been a reliable caregiver, family members saidFamily members said Endicott, an eighth-grader, had been seeing a 12-year-old girl for a few months.
The Holloways disapproved and had tried to get him to stop seeing her, which had caused some tension between them and the teen, family members said.Endicott's desire to run away with the girl is the only indication of a possible motive for the slayings, state police Detective B.J Burton has said.
"He was obviously angry about something," said Trooper Billy Gregory, a state police spokesman.
Family members estimated Endicott took $1,500 or more from the Holloways before leaving in their 1997 Chevrolet Lumina, but he has not been charged with related crimes.
Endicott picked up the girl after the shootings, Burton said, but had sent her text messages earlier.
The girl told police she knew Endicott planned to take the car and come for her but said she did not know he would shoot the couple, Burton said. The girl has not been charged.
Police issued an Amber Alert for Endicott and Kyra Shockley, 12, after family members found the Holloways' bodies Tuesday afternoon. The Herald-Leader normally does not identify juveniles in criminal cases, but both names were widely circulated as part of the alert.
Police issued the alert for Kyra, who had been missing since about 5 a.m., because they had information she might be with Endicott but didn't know whether she'd gone willingly, Burton said.
A firefighter spotted the car Endicott was driving late Tuesday.
As police closed in, Endicott drove off the road and through a fence.
Police said they caught him and Kyra after a short foot chase.
That was about 20 hours after the shootings. Endicott and the girl had driven around at least part of that time, but they were caught within about 25 miles of the Holloways' home.
Burton said there's no indication Endicott and the girl left the state at any time. Endicott had never been out of the state, and it's not clear whether he knew how to read a map, Burton said.In addition to murder, Endicott is charged with fleeing and evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving, driving without a license and third-degree criminal mischief. He is being held in the Adair County Youth Development Center.
If he is certified to be tried as an adult, his case would go before a grand jury, which could issue additional charges.

I have some thoughts about this...
Unlike Alyssa Bustamante, this mid-teen clearly was not thinking ( sound mind ) when he committed this heinous act.
AB planned her killing to minute detail where as these two ersatz Bonnie and Clyde couldn't even figure out what their next step was...or how to engage it. What no GPS?
Anyway. he has led what appears to be an abominable home life up to now and his anger has probably been festering for a long time.
While AB's upbringing certainly was not Norman Rockwell-esque she "dabbled" in murderous themes and thoughts long before her crime.
This kid was a loaded weapon and when he was prohibited from being with his girl (whether that was appropriate is another discussion altogether) the fuse was lit and he went ka-boom with the rifle.
IMHO, he should not be tried as an adult (though others with the deep seated fantasies like AB should) he requires much more than any incarceration could do for him.

Prosecutors are far too inclined to try children as adults. In most cases IMO this is wrong.
Obviously this kid is troubled and not of sound mind. This doesn't diminish the gravity of what he did, nor do anything to alleviate the suffering of the murdered couple and their loved ones. He needs years of therapy and I don't think trying him as an adult will get him that help. Instead, it will prevent it.
If children had the maturity and reasoning ability of adults we would not need separate laws for them. I don't think such decisions should rest with a lone prosecutor.
All JMO, as always.

No amount of "help" is going to turn a demented mind into a productive "white picket fence" citizen when the mind of that child would murder a loving family over a 12 yo girl. You may not like a "child" to be tried as an adult, but that child tried as an adult or otherwise needs to be kept from society for the entirety of their life. One life is not worth the killing, abduction or otherwise of another innocent life. The majority of people, as bad as they may be, will not murder, abduct, molest or kidnap another. When ones mind allows them to commit a cold blooded heinous act there is no fixing that. Whether sent to death row or isolated for life, they need to be kept from the ability to ever be feared from society again. I feel sorry for the life Christopher had to lead. I hate that he was brought up with the troubles he had. That in no way means that I want him wondering around in society worrying who he may kill or abduct again. My sympathies for him do not override my common senses of wanting the best for my family, friends or their families so that a cold blooded, self interest seeking, murderer can try their luck at normalcy again. Mental illness, depravity and abuse cannot be fixed like a cold, flu or broken bone. It doesn't heal or get better. Its a defect and yes its sad. But so is the senseless act of what happened to his guardians.

I'd have to disagree with you das soldat. The prefrontal cortex of the brain is not fully developed until early to mid 20's. While it's possible that this 15 year old will never be right, we don't know that. He may mature into a decent human being who deserves another chance. You can't write the rest of his life off at only 15 IMO, and we shouldn't judge the actions of a troubled 15 year old by the standards expected of a mature adult.
The prefrontal cortex (PFC) is the anterior part of the frontal lobes of the brain, lying in front of the motor and premotor areas.
This brain region has been implicated in planning complex cognitive
behaviors, personality expression, decision making and moderating
correct social behavior.[1]
The basic activity of this brain region is considered to be
orchestration of thoughts and actions in accordance with internal goals.[2]
The most typical psychological term for functions carried out by the prefrontal cortex area is executive function.
Executive function relates to abilities to differentiate among
conflicting thoughts, determine good and bad, better and best, same and
different, future consequences of current activities, working toward a
defined goal, prediction of outcomes, expectation based on actions, and
social "control" (the ability to suppress urges that, if not suppressed,
could lead to socially-unacceptable outcomes).
