BRITTANY BURGESS - 15 yo (2010) - Scranton PA
Scranton police continue their search for Wyoming resident Brittany
Burgess, 15, who left a Hill Section home through a second story window on Dec. 24, 2010.
Burgess, a student at Wyoming Area High School, is 5’4”,
approximately 110 pounds, and has brown hair, brown eyes and both ears pierced.
She is known to have friends in the Wyoming and Pittston areas of
Luzerne County, and may be in the company of an adult male traveling to
New York City. Burgess may use the alias last name Ide, according to a
press release.
Scranton Police Juvenile Supervisor Nelson Ancherani said many leads on her whereabouts have run cold.
“We’re getting dead end stuff at this point,” Ancherani said. “She’s hiding from us.”

Missing girl’s mother is injured
Beverly Burgess ran away six months ago. Her mother was hurt in a car accident.
Brittany Burgess, wherever you are, you’re mother has been severely injured … Please call home.
Burgess
Family members have craved information about
Burgess, now 16, for six months. They were convinced the Christmas Eve
runaway would, at the very least, send a card for her 6-year-old
brother’s birthday. No card came.
Now they are redoubling their efforts, as Brittany’s mother, Amy Ide,
struggles against the odds following a tragic car accident.
“Brittany’s mother was in a very critical accident, and on Sunday we
didn’t think she was going to make it,” said Maureen Condosta, Amy Ide’s
aunt. Police say Ide was hit while crossing the bridge over Abrahams
creek on West Eighth Street in Wyoming. The accident shattered her lower
legs and forced doctors to insert a shunt to relieve pressure from
fluid in her brain.
Amy Ide’s condition has stabilized surprisingly quickly, her mother
Diane Ide said Friday. But even if she survives, she faces extensive
reconstructive surgery in coming weeks, and months or even years of
rehabilitation.
Brittany ran away Dec. 24 from a Scranton house where she had been
staying. Condosta said the teen had been a wonderful niece who often
stayed with her daughter and who participated in track and field at
Wyoming Area High School.
Brittany apparently took up with an older man in his 30s and became “rebellious,” Condosta said, ultimately running away.
The family received letters in January from Brittany saying she was
well, but nothing since. When her younger brother’s birthday came and
went this month without a word, concerns about Brittany grew.
“She loved her little brother; that’s what scared me,” Condosta said.
Condosta urged Brittany to call her at (570) 406-8319 and appealed to
friends who might know Brittany’s whereabouts to relay her mother’s
plight.
Alternatively, anyone with information could contact the National
Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which has posted Brittany’s
information on its website, www.missingkids.com. Scranton and Wyoming police are also investigating.
At the very least, Diane Ide suggested, Brittany could consider
calling Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township,
where Amy Ide is being treated.

Re: BRITTANY BURGESS - 15 yo (2010) - Scranton PA
Relatives made a simple appeal: “Brittany, please come home, your mother needs you.”
Relatives publicly begged her to return
and comfort her mother, who was severely injured by a car while walking a
bridge over Abraham’s Creek in Wyoming.
Brittany heard them.
Missing since Christmas Eve and out of communication since January,
16-year-old Brittany Burgess reunited with her family after relatives
publicly begged her to return and comfort her mother, who was severely
injured by a car while walking a bridge over Abraham’s Creek on West
Eighth Street in Wyoming.
“She just showed up and walked into the hospital room,” Brittany’s aunt, Maureen Condosta, said Tuesday. “It was a miracle.”
Brittany had slipped out of a house in Scranton Dec. 24 and
disappeared. Initially, she contacted family to say she was OK, but that
stopped after about a month.
Investigations by police in both Scranton and Wyoming, where she lived and attended Wyoming Area High School, turned up nothing.
When Brittany’s mother, Amy Ide, was injured and seemed near death in
Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township, Condosta
and Brittany’s grandmother Diane Ide used local newspapers to urge
Brittany to return.
“She said she saw it in the paper and came back,” Condosta said. “She looked beautiful.
“We still don’t know what the story is,” Condosta added. “She didn’t
explain what happened and she won’t tell us where she’s staying, but she
visits her mother every day. She visited her family and friends.
“At least we know she’s alive; personally that’s what I needed to know.”
Amy Ide continues to recover, though “she’s in great pain and faces a lot of rehabilitation,” Condosta said.
To Condosta, Brittany’s return in the second miracle in a matter of weeks.
“It was a miracle that her mother survived, she should have been dead; and it’s a miracle that Brittany came home.”
