A missing 12-year-old Roanoke County girl, who is the subject of a statewide Amber Alert, and her deceased mother have local ties, according to Teresa Hamilton Hall, Roanoke County Police Department spokesperson.
Roanoke County Police found the body of 41-year-old Tina Dyer Smith Monday morning after they were called to her Fort Lewis Circle home in Salem, said Hall. While at the scene, police obtained information indicating that a female child was missing from the home, she added.
Virginia State Police issued an Amber Alert on Monday afternoon for 12-year-old Brittany Mae Smith. She is described as 5 feet tall, weighing 100 pounds, with straight brown hair and brown eyes.
Brittany Smith is the daughter of South Boston Police Officer Benjamin H. Smith, said Hall. She and her mother lived in Halifax County before moving to Roanoke County several years ago.
Roanoke County Police are not saying how or when Tina Smith died, but they are treating it as a possible homicide. Tina Smith’s co-workers contacted police Monday morning, Hall said.
State Police said Brittany Mae Smith is believed to be in extreme danger and was last seen Thursday, Dec. 2. The child was likely abducted by 32-year-old Jeffrey Scott Easley, a white male, 5’11” tall, weighing 265 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes, said state police.
Easley was a friend of Tina Smith, said the Roanoke County spokesperson.
They may be traveling in a 2000 red Chevrolet SUV, Virginia license XPR-4366. The mother’s vehicle, a silver 2005 Dodge four-door sedan Virginia license XKF-2365, also is missing, state police said.
Anyone with information about this case should contact the Roanoke County Police Department at 540-777-8641 or the Virginia State Police at 800-822-4453.
Bolded by me. This could be even worse for the abductor, he's messed around with a cops child!!!

Yes we do, a big one. I just don't understand any of it Kiwi, what is it gonna take to stop this nonsense? I know we'll probably never be able to stop it completely but it would be nice to be able to slow it waaaaayyyyy down.
Did you see her dad is a cop?? Wonder if this whacko abductor knows just what kind of trouble he's facing--cops take care of their own and this fruit loop would be safer if he kills himself.

Re: BRITTANY MAE SMITH - 12 yo - (2010) Salem VA
(CNN) -- After finding her mother dead inside their home, police issued an Amber Alert for a 12-year-old Virginia girl who they believe has been kidnapped. Brittany Mae Smith was last seen "several days ago," according to a Roanoke County statement issued Monday. Her abductor is thought to be Jeffrey Scott Easley, a 265-pound white male described by police as a friend of the mother's. "Police have said that the young lady is in extreme danger," said Teresa Hamilton Hall, public information director for Roanoke County. Roanoke County police went to a Salem residence about 9:30 a.m. Monday after being contacted by concerned co-workers of Tina Smith, the girl's mother. They found the 41-year-old woman's body inside and promptly launched a homicide investigation. Police soon got information that Brittany Smith's whereabouts were unknown, leading them to issue the statewide alert. Virginia's Amber Alert website noted early Monday evening that Easley's car, a 2000 red Chevrolet SUV, has been found. But authorities are still looking for Tina Smith's vehicle, a silver 2005 Dodge Neon sedan with Virginia license plates. Easley is 5 feet, 11 inches tall with brown hair and hazel eyes, the Amber Alert says. Brittany Smith is 5 feet tall, weighs 100 pounds, and has straight brown hair and brown eyes.
Hall said authorities don't have a specific search area, as they are uncertain which direction Easley might be heading or how far he might have gotten. They have asked anyone with more information to call 911 or Roanoke County police at 540-777-8641.http://edition.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/12/06/virginia.missing.child/

My Armchair Investigative mind tells me that the young girl was the prey all along. Like the guy who killed three to enslave one, this lowlife has done the same. Removed the obstacle to his goal. Like the other dumbass he probably won't hurt her initially, but look out as the heat starts getting intense...

Police: Missing 12-year-old 'in extreme danger'
Tina Smith of Roanoke County was found dead Monday morning. The man with whom she had been living is gone, and so is Smith's daughter, Brittany.
By Amanda Codispoti and Sheila Ellis
She was 41. He was 32.
They flirted over the Internet. He sent online kisses and declared her "hot." She thanked him for his patience with her.
Jeff Easley moved into Tina Smith's house in Roanoke County, just across Salem's western border, a few months ago, a neighbor said.
Their love story dissolved Monday with a terrible discovery. A co-worker found Tina Smith slain in her home after she failed to show up at her nursing home job for two days. Her 12-year-old daughter, Brittany Mae Smith, was gone, presumed abducted by Easley and "in extreme danger," according to a state police Amber Alert.
Mother and daughter were last seen alive on Friday, police said.
Co-workers at Richfield Retirement Community in Salem first called police to the two-story house on Fort Lewis Circle, a quiet cul-de-sac, on Sunday night after Smith failed to show up for work, said Roanoke County police Lt. Chuck Mason.
Officers knocked on the door, but got no answer. There were no cars in the driveway, and the officers saw no reason to force their way inside, Mason said.
At the time, there wasn't anything suspicious," he said.
About 9:30 a.m. Monday, after Smith failed to show up at work again, a co-worker with a house key walked in and found Smith's body, Mason said. Police wouldn't say how she died.
Authorities issued a national Amber Alert for Brittany Smith and her description was broadcast frequently on police radios throughout Southwest Virginia. The frantic search included a false sighting Monday night of a girl walking along Interstate 81 in Botetourt County. The case was featured on the HLN television crime show Nancy Grace.
Roanoke County police located Easley's red 2000 Chevrolet SUV. Missing still was Smith's car, a silver 2005 Dodge Neon sedan, Virginia tag XKF-2365.
"We are all wondering, 'What in the world is going to happen to Brittany?' " said Fiona Walden, 40, who lives in Tina Smith's hometown of South Boston, near the North Carolina border.
Smith and Brittany were "as close as a mother can be to a daughter," Walden said. "Her daughter was her world. Everything she did was for her daughter."
Mason said police aren't calling Easley a suspect in Tina Smith's homicide. The Amber Alert flatly declares him Brittany Smith's abductor.
Tina Smith was a registered nurse and had worked at the retirement home four years, said Robert Rector, president of Richfield Retirement Community.
"The news was very devastating to our staff," Rector said.
Fort Lewis Circle neighbors said they would see Smith coming and going in scrubs.
One neighbor said she'd seen Easley with Brittany, and it made her uneasy.
"This guy gives me the creeps," said Roxann Pille. "Just the way he touches her, just the way he looks at her, gives me a very uneasy feeling."
Easley's MySpace page uses the nickname Jeffro and pictures him with Brittany. Both are grinning broadly.
Brittany's MySpace page lists her age as 18. Her MySpace and Facebook pages use the last name Easley.
Brittany is a seventh-grader at Glenvar Middle School. The school is bringing in counselors to talk to students today, Roanoke County schools spokesman Chuck Lionberger said.
On her MySpace page, Tina Smith listed Easley among her heroes "for having so much patience & for loving me anyway."
She devoted some of her online postings to her 16-year-old son, William Tyler Matherly. He accidentally died in Johnson City, Tenn., in August 2009 while playing the "choking game," in which people strangle themselves, cutting off oxygen and producing a feeling of euphoria.
Smith's weekly postings on her son's Facebook memorial page documented her grief and advocated awareness of self-asphyxiation.
"I keep saying I am going to stop counting the time since you were here physically and start looking forward to the time we are together as a family again, but I can't help it, you know how I am about numbers," she wrote in January.
She also wrote about skydiving in honor of Matherly's adventurous spirit.
You taught me life is too short," she wrote.
Walden, Tina Smith's friend, said the teen's death brought mother and daughter closer.
"Their family has seen so much tragedy already," Walden said. "This is just horrible."

Well, that didn't provide any new info at all, not one thing. LE still has no idea where these two are or even could be. Stated that an autopsy is being performed on Brittany's mother today and they hope to have an answer on her death later this afternoon.
