Casey Anthony: ‘48 Hours Mystery’ ratings are small

Yes, “48 Hours Mystery” had the biggest audience Saturday night on broadcast television with a show on the Casey Anthony case.
But that’s not saying a lot. The newsmagazine averaged only 5.6 million viewers. Could such a small audience mean there won’t be a lot of trouble in seating a jury?
CBS had the most viewers Saturday night: 4.8 million, but that’s no reason for crowing. (Reruns of “CSI: and “Hawaii Five-O” preceded “48 Hours Mystery.”) Here’s how the other broadcast networks fared: NBC with 4.5 million viewers for various “Law & Order” reruns, ABC with 3.1 million for “Pirates of the Caribbean” and Fox with 2.3 million for the movie “Truth Be Told.” ABC, however, edged CBS and NBC for the lead in young adults.
In Orlando, a “Law & Order: Los Angeles” rerun was the top show to start in prime time; it had 79,300 viewers. The “48 Hours Mystery” pulled in 75,400 viewers.
A previous “48 Hours Mystery” on the Anthony case drew 125,700 viewers in 2009. Is interest waning?
