CBS News President David Rhodes wanted more coverage on his network of last weekend’s “48 Hours Mystery” on the Casey Anthony case.
In an email to the staff, Rhodes complained that “The Early Show” on Monday hadn’t given enough attention to weekend reports on “60 Minutes,” “Sunday Morning” and “48 Hours Mystery.”
In the memo, Rhodes writes, “Saturday night we heard the planned defense of Casey Anthony. Her explosive case goes to trial in May. Where are these stories this morning? Not on the Early Show. Why not?”
In a release, CBS News trumpeted the ratings for “48 Hours Mystery.” CBS News noted that “48 Hours Mystery” was Saturday night’s No. 1 program in households and viewers (5.52 million).
Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. Her attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason talked to “48 Hours Mystery.” The program also conducted a focus group, led by defense consultant Richard Gabriel, that found Anthony not guilty of first-degree murder.
