Police: 2 missing Michigan children found safe

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — Police in western Michigan say two
children who they believed were abducted by their 28-year-old father
have been safely returned home.
East Grand Rapids Public Safety Chief Mark Herald tells The
Associated Press the father of 1-year-old Kamdyn Kairis Lee and
3-year-old Vernon LeeTadd Williams dropped them off at their mother's
home about 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Authorities earlier in the day issued an Amber Alert for the
children. The alert said they were last seen Monday night near the Grand
Rapids-area community of Wyoming with Vernon Lee Williams.
Herald says officers still are investigating the circumstances behind why the children were taken. No arrests have been made.

Police do not anticipate charges in Amber Alert case involving children, ages 3 and 1

EAST GRAND RAPIDS -- Police this morning said they do not anticipate charging a 28-year-old man in an Amber Alert case where he took two young children -- one with his own -- without their mother's permission.
East Grand Rapids police issued an Amber Alert early today after Vernon Lee Williams took the two children, ages 1 and 3, from Spectrum Health Blodgett hospital where he had been watching them Monday night.
The children were missing for about 11 hours, but Williams returned them this morning to their mother's home.
East Grand Rapids police Capt. Brian Williams, no relation to Vernon Williams, today said Vernon Williams gave the childrens' mother a ride to the hospital Monday night to get treatment for an unspecified condition.
He was watching the children at the hospital, but could not be found when the mother was ready to go home. She was unable to contact him by phone and police ended up issuing an Amber Alert, in part because Vernon Williams has a criminal record.
"Our major concern was the safe return of the children and they don't seem to be harmed in any way," Brian Williams said.
