Amber Alert Issued for 16-year-old Oakland Girl

OAKLAND, Calif— Central Coast News learned the California Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert for 16-year-old Ciarra Thornton, out of Oakland.

CHP officials say Thornton is African American, about 140 pounds and has black hair and black eyes.

The California Highway Patrol is looking for 57-year-old Richard Ashley. Authorities say he is also African American, 6'1 and 270 pounds. He has black hair and black eyes.

Officers say they may be in a blue, 2004, four door Hyundai with California license plate: 5-H-X-F-4-3-3

OAKLAND (KRON) – An Amber Alert for 15-year-old Ciara Thornton has been canceled.

Authorities say that the suspect's vehicle has been located. Police are still investigating the details and validity of this incident.

Police cancel Amber alert


(04-28) 19:37 PDT -- Authorities called off an
Amber Alert after finding the vehicle that may have been used in an
apparent kidnapping of a teenager in East Oakland today.
"We are still investigating the details and validity of this
incident," Cynthia Perkins, a spokeswoman for the Oakland Police
Department, said this evening.
Police were investigating a report that a 15-year-old possibly was
abducted from the area of 90th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard this
afternoon. Authorities did not say if the youth was a boy or girl and
did not release details on the circumstances of the apparent kidnapping.

They issued an Amber Alert for a blue four-door Hyundai with
California license plate 5HXF433, which later was located.

Police are
releasing no other information at this time.

Victim Of Possible Kidnapping Found Unharmed, Suspect In Custody

A 15-year-old girl who was possibly kidnapped in East Oakland Thursday morning was found unharmed after an Amber Alert was issued and the vehicle she was traveling in was located, an Oakland police spokeswoman said.

The girl, Ciara Thornton, was allegedly abducted at about 10 a.m. from the area of 90th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, authorities said.

Thornton was believed to be with Richard Ashley, a 57-year-old Oakland man who was driving a blue four-door Hyundai.

Perkins said a preliminary investigation revealed that it appeared Thornton was meeting someone earlier in the day and got into a car.

Perkins said that at some point, the victim allegedly wanted out and was refused. Thornton then contacted someone using a cellphone and told them that she was being held against her will, Perkins said.

Based on Thorton's age, police issued the Amber Alert and were able to locate the Hyundai this evening. Perkins said that, as of 8:30 p.m., a suspect was in custody.

The case remains under investigation.

Amber Alert Canceled for Missing 16-Year-Old

Oakland, Calif-- Police canceled an Amber Alert and found a missing 16-year-old girl Thursday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol and Oakland Police Department, they found 16-year-old Ciara Thornton. Earlier in the day she texted a friend claiming 57-year-old Richard Ashley abducted her.

Police were able to locate the suspect after he saw that an Amber Alert was issued. Ashley told police he did not kidnap Thornton and was home all day. He said he had met her a few days prior to her alleged kidnapping, police said.

Oakland officers are currently questioning the girl. She is uninjured.
