Police are attempting to confirm the whereabouts of an 8-year-old
girl whose mother was stabbed some 20 times inside her Fort Worth
apartment Monday, allegedly by the girl’s stepmother. Sgt. Pedro
Criado said investigators have contacted officials at Fort Bliss near El
Paso, where the girl’s father is stationed in the military, and are
awaiting confirmation that the girl is with him. Criado said the father
has joint custody of the girl, identified by family members as Danylle
Kristen Martinez, and had custody of the child during the summer.
“There’s no indication that she’s in harm’s way at this time,” Criado said.
“Detectives are exhausting those leads to confirm that she is with Dad
because that’s where she’s supposed to be legally.”The girl’s
mother, identified in a police report as 26-year-old Brandy Martinez,
told police that the girl’s stepmother, who lives in El Paso, came to
her Meridian apartment in the 2400 block of Tosoro Circle about 10 p.m.
Monday, asking for some additional clothes for the girl. Criado said the
stepmother was alone when she stopped by Martinez’s apartment.Once
inside the apartment, Criado said, the stepmother began attacking
Martinez, reportedly cutting her, mainly in the head area, with a pocket
knife she’d brought along and then a butcher knife that she found in
Martinez’s kitchen. Criado said a police report indicates Martinez
suffered 16 to 20 cuts, some of them defensive wounds.
A family friend said that Martinez was released from the hospital on Tuesday.
Witnesses told police they saw the stepmother flee the complex by jumping over a
fence. Criado said investigators are currently preparing an arrest
warrant for the woman. The Martinez family has distributed a
missing child flier, asking anyone with information regarding Danylle's
whereabouts to call 911 or the Fort Worth police department at
271-335-4222."Danylle was last seen around north Fort Worth
on July 10th and has not been heard from since," the flier states.
