RCMP search for missing Muskowekwan First Nation teen

REGINA — The RCMP in Punnichy is seeking the public's help in locating 17-year-old Cody Ridge Wolfe, who has not been seen since Friday.

Wolfe was last seen leaving his grandmother's house on the Muskowekwan First Nation at 10:30 p.m. when he set out for another residence that was approximately eight kilometres away.

Investigators do not believe Wolfe ever reached his destination, but there have been no other sightings.

Wolfe is of First Nations ancestry, is 5-foot-7 and weighs 110 pounds. He has shoulder-length black hair, brown eyes and has a scar between his nose and upper lip. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue sweater, blue jeans and white running shoes.

Wolfe was reported missing at 9:15 p.m. on Sunday.

A Saskatchewan family is asking for help in finding a missing teen.

Cody Ridge Wolfe has been missing since the night of April 29. He was last seen on the Muskowekwan First Nation south east of Wynyard.

An extensive search and rescue effort in the community and area has not been successful in finding him. Cody Wolfe is aboriginal, 17 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 110 pounds. His family is concerned for his safety.

Missing teen may be lost in bush

The family of a missing 17-year-old is concerned the youth may have lost his way in the bush after encountering a washed-out road while making his way, on foot, to a house a week ago.

Cody Ridge Wolfe was last seen Apr. 29 on the Muskowekwan First Nation, a reserve community about 130 kilometres north of Regina.

He was at his grandmother's house and left to go to another home about eight kilometres away.

"They're very worried. Very concerned," Myrna Laplante, Wolfe's aunt, told CBC News. "Very worried about him and being away for that length of time."

Community members have been combing the area on foot and all-terrain vehicles, in cars and on horses trying to locate the youth.

"We have a tracker from northern Saskatchewan that is helping us," Alvin Campeau, who is coordinating the community's search effort, told CBC News Friday. "So we've got a lot of expertise amongst our own people. We've got people that can track and see whatever has been disturbed."

Police are also involved in the search and have sent in special tracking dogs.

. . . . .“His last text indicated that he couldn’t text anymore and that he was cold,” said LaPlante. “That was at approximately 2 a.m. early Saturday morning (April 30), in the wee hours.”

That was the last time anyone heard from Wolfe

“It’s a big puzzle,” said LaPlante.

Since May 2, there has been an extensive search of the area by volunteers from inside and outside the community, as well as by the RCMP.

LaPlante said searches have been conducted by air, foot, all-terrain vehicle and horse.

Search co-ordinator Alvin Campeau said searchers have covered three six-by-six-mile areas so far.

On Monday, the searchers were covering the area between Wolfe’s grandmother’s house and his parents’ home near Kandahar.

“We’re hoping we may pick up some indication that he went that direction, but if he was walking, we don’t think he would have made it six miles unless someone picked him up,” said Campeau.

Searchers have found no trace of Wolfe but haven’t given up hope of finding something that will assist them in the search.

LaPlante said the family has no reason to believe Wolfe has run away because he’s never been in any trouble before.

“They’re a close-knit family and do a lot of things together,” she said about her brother’s family.

However, in case he has made his way to an urban setting, the family is asking for the public’s assistance in locating him. They are also asking Wolfe to call home and let them know if he’s OK.

This is not the first time the family has had a family member go missing. In September 2007, LaPlante’s aunt, Emily Osmond, who lived on an acreage on the northern edge of the Kawakatoose First Nation, disappeared.

Family and friends of a 17-year-old boy from the Muskowekwan First Nation still have no answers almost a month after he went missing.

A community search this weekend was postponed because of rain. More than a hundred searchers on foot, all-terrain vehicles, cars and horses have looked for Wolfe since his disappearance.

Wolfe's aunt Myrna LaPlante, who described him as a hilarious teen who was learning to play guitar, said the family is not giving up.

"Maybe he's somewhere else. We don't know," she said. "I guess anything is possible. So we hold out hope that we'll be able to locate him and bring him home."

road was washed out so he had to take a detour around and according to
his texts, it appears he made it around the detour around the road,”
said LaPlante. “That’s the same area the RCMP has been focusing their
search on in the water there.”Normally on that stretch of road, there’s some water on both sides.“(But
this year) there are massive amounts of water out there, ditches
sloughs have become lakes,” said LaPlante. “The RCMP have focusing there
because they feel if he had went into hypothermia, then there could
have been some confusion and he might have (misjudged) where he was
walking and ended up in the water.”The night Wolfe went missing a blizzard hit parts of the province.LaPlante
had said in a previous interview that there were high winds and
below-freezing temperatures the night her nephew went missing.She
said her nephew’s disappearance remains a complete mystery. LaPlante

RCMP resume air search for missing teen

RCMP on Tuesday will resume an aerial search over eastern Saskatchewan for a teen who went missing nearly three months ago.


Police will look by air for Cody Wolfe, 17.

Cody Wolfe of the Muskowekwan First Nation was last seen at his grandmother's home on the night of April 29.

Wolfe, 17, planned on walking eight kilometres in the dark to another home on the reserve. Mounties believe he never reached his destination.

Officers first searched the surrounding area by plane in May, during heavy flooding.

Cpl. Rob King says the rural terrain and water levels have changed significantly, so another aerial search could uncover some clues in the case.

REGINA -- It’s been almost three months since Cody Wolfe disappeared and his family longs for any news about the missing teenager.

“They’re devastated,” said Myrna LaPlante, Wolfe’s aunt, about the 17-year-old’s immediate family. “It’s really hard on them. It’s very sad and frustrating, because we haven’t received any update or any news. It’s difficult on the family and very sad. Every time we see them, it’s heartbreaking.”

Wolfe was last seen on the Muskowekwan First Nation on April 29. He was reported missing on May 1. Since Wolfe disappeared, many searches have been conducted, LaPlante said. She noted that police, professional search and rescue teams, residents of the First Nation and people from nearby towns and reserves have joined the family in searching for him.

“With our case, they have been pretty active in continuing the search,” LaPlante said of the RCMP. “They’ve been devoting as many resources as they possibly can to look for Cody. We always hope for news that will help us locate him.”

On Tuesday, members of the Yorkton RCMP Forensic Identification Section conducted an aerial search of the area where Wolfe was last seen. The investigation into the case is ongoing and the flight is just one of the investigational techniques being used, said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Rob King.

From the air, the RCMP took pictures of the entire area, which stretched from where Wolfe was last seen at his grandmother’s residence to the place where it is estimated his last text message was sent, based on the location of nearby cellphone towers.

“You can see a lot more once a photograph is blown up than with the naked eye,” said King. “Thousands of photos were taken. If we get anything from this, it will be after slow, methodical examination.”

It was the second aerial search conducted for Wolfe, said King, noting it was appropriate to revisit the technique considering changes in the terrain in recent months due to receding water.

LaPlante also noted search efforts have focused around a slough that “became a fairly big lake” and washed out a nearby road this year due to high water levels. It appears to be the area where Wolfe was when he sent his last text message.

Family members have searched on the lake and have walked through the water in the hope of finding anything that might give them answers to what happened to Wolfe, according to LaPlante.

She noted Wolfe was texting his friends throughout the evening of April 29. He was last seen at his grandmother’s house at about 10:30 p.m., before he set out for another residence. He never reached his destination.

“They were able to obtain the texts up to approximately 2:20 a.m.,” said LaPlante. “He is texting a friend and trying to get to this residence to meet his friend.

“But he’s going to a house he hadn’t been to before, although he’s very familiar with the First Nation. It was the middle of the night, windy, stormy and cold. He indicated in a couple of texts that he is cold and his feet are wet. All of a sudden, at 2:30 a.m., the texts ceased.”

LaPlante hopes someone comes forward who can provide information about Wolfe’s whereabouts between the hours of about midnight to about 1:20 a.m. that night, which is when texts first indicated he was en route to the other residence. It’s unclear who he might have been with up to that point, she said.

RCMP have followed up on all the tips that have come in so far, said King, noting the search will continue until police find any evidence that might take the investigation in a different direction.

“We’re just hoping for any information that the public can supply,” he said. “Everything that comes in is investigated. The investigation is still ongoing. It’s still considered a missing person.”

The family of missing 17-year-old Cody Ridge Wolfe will hold a benefit dance on Saturday night in the township of Wynyard, to continue funding the search.



He was last seen six months ago on Muskowekan First Nation.

Wolfe's aunt Myrna LaPlante said people can help in different ways, and encourages people to come to the benefit at the Wynyard Civic Centre for $10 per ticket.

"There's going to be supper, 50/50, some raffles, some door prizes."

Wolfe's family will be deciding over the weekend when the next search for Wolfe will take place.
