CLEARWATER — Casey Anthony's lead attorney, José Baez, revealed that today's early adjournment was the result of a "private matter" and he urged the media to stop speculating.
After today's lunch break, Orange-Osceola Chief Judge Belvin Perry inexplicably adjourned jury selection in the Casey Anthony murder trial until 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
Perry offered no explanation — spurring plenty of speculation about everything from a possible plea deal to sudden illnesses.
Baez sent the Orlando Sentinel a text message explaining the adjournment: "Today's adjournment was due to a private matter. Please stop the speculation, as jury selection will continue at 8:30 tomorrow morning. No further statements will be made."
Baez was not present during Perry's announcement or after attorneys left the courtroom.
