Tipton police have confirmed that a 10-year-old girl may have been abducted in the north-central Indiana county Tuesday night. Serena
“Reney” Weicht , is 4’ to 4’6” tall, 50 pounds, with dark blond hair.
She was last seen wearing a white short-sleeve shirt and plaid shorts. A
witness told police at about 8:30 p.m. that she heard a child screaming
and saw a silver or gray car speeding away from the area where the
screams were coming from, near North and Main streets, about three
blocks north of Ind. 28, at about 6:30 p.m. The witness saw a child’s
bike on the ground nearby. Police said there are no parental
custody issues. Tipton County Sheriff’s Department, Hamilton County
Sheriff’s Department and local fire departments, along with Indiana
State Police, had been contacted about in the search. Fliers were being
distibruted in the area late Tuesday night, and information also was
flying online. The case had been posted on the National Center for
Missing and Exploited Children website late Tuesday night, and a Facebook page also had been put up. Capt.
Gordon Tocco of the Tipton Police Department said an official Amber
Alert hadn't been issued immediately because descriptive information was
limited, though calls had been sent out through the A Child is Missing
Alert organization. An Amber Alert requires that there be enough
descriptive information to believe the broadcast will help. Anyone with information should call 765-675-2111.http://www.wishtv.com/dpp/news/local/north_central/tipton-police-say-girl-may-have-been-abducted

Police searching for missing Tipton 10-year-old
Serena Weicht
TIPTON - Tipton Police are investigating a possible abduction of a 10-year-old girl.
Tipton Police Captain Gordon Tocco says they're looking for Serena "Renee" Weicht,
who will be 11 years old next month. She is described as 4'0 to 4'6,
50 pounds with blonde shoulder-length hair. She was last seen wearing a
white short-sleeved shirt and plaid shorts.
She was last seen in Tipton at approximately 6:26 p.m. Tuesday.
A witness told police she heard what sounded
like a girl's scream, and then heard the same sound again. The witness
said she looked in the direction of the sound and saw a gray vehicle
speeding from the scene. Serena's bicycle was on the ground nearby.
An Amber Alert hasn't been issued because
investigators lack a suspect description and more details about the
suspect vehicle. Police have contacted "A Child Is Missing", a group
that makes mass-telephone calls about missing children.
Tipton police are conducting the
investigation, assisted by Tipton County Sheriff, Hamilton County
Sheriff, the Indiana State Police and several fire departments.

There seems to be some confusion as to whether an Amber alert was activated but I think it belongs here anyway.

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- Police are looking for the
great-grandmother of a girl who was found hours after being abducted
from Tipton Tuesday night, but investigators don't think the cases are
related.Dorothy Heard, 74, was last seen on Monday evening, Noblesville police said.Officers
were called to the 1500 block of South 16th Street on Tuesday evening,
after family members said they had not seen Heard.
"Family members of Ms. Heard say her disappearance is uncharacteristic
of her. Ms. Heard's vehicle remains on her property," said Noblesville
police Lt. Bruce Barnes.Heard is about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 135 pounds."We're suspicious … but right now, we don't have anything of a criminal nature to think that a crime occurred," Barnes said.Police combed the neighborhood in search of Heard."They
went looking for her in the back yards. They thought she might have
wondered off from the house and maybe fallen and gotten hurt and
couldn't get up," said neighbor Donald Montgomery.Police asked anyone with information to call 317-776-6371.Investigators are trying to determine if Heard's disappearance is connected to the abduction of Serena Weicht, 10."At
this point, we have nothing that suggests that there is a connection
between these two cases," Barnes said. "We believe our case is very
specific to Heard."Police said Serena had been riding her bike near North and Main streets in Tipton, near her home, at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.A witness said she heard a scream, the girl disappeared, and the bike was left on the ground, 6News' Ericka Flye reported.A silver compact car was seen speeding from the scene, detectives said. The community quickly fanned out through the neighborhood, passing out fliers with Serena's description.Nearly
three hours later, police said, Serena's father got a phone call from
someone telling him they thought they had his daughter.Investigators
were able to track that phone call to the Wendy's in Westfield, off of
U.S. 31, where they found Serena safe and not hurt.
"We had officers from Westfield PD arrive and advise us that it
definitely was her," said Tipton Police Chief Kevin Stiner. "We sent
detectives down there to interview her and try to figure out exactly how
she got down there and who abducted her."Tipton police later learned that Serena's great-grandmother was also missing from Noblesville.A suspect in Serena's abduction was described as white and about 40 years old. He has short brown hair and a thin build. The man was wearing a gray T-shirt, gray shorts and black Nike shoes, Tipton police said. The
vehicle he was driving was described as a newer, smaller four-door car.
Serena told police that she was driven around from the time she was
abducted until she was released.Police asked anyone with information in that case to call 765-675-2152.
