GUADALUPE, Ariz. – Investigators are trying to determine why two children were duct-taped inside a home that caught on fire Wednesday evening.
Firefighters responded to a call at about 5:30 p.m. in reference to children being trapped inside a house where the sofa was reportedly on fire.
When crews arrived at the home they found three children inside, two of them had their hands and feet duct-taped. They were home alone.
Firefighters describe the two kids who were found taped as a baby or infant and a little girl between 2 and 3 years old. A third girl between 5 and 7 years old was also inside but was not bound.
One neighbor says it was obvious from the beginning that something was amiss at the home. She said she saw the tape "around the arms and then on the legs” as the children were transported to the Maricopa Medical Center.
The kids have been designated as “no information patients,” which is very common in criminal investigations.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office investigators are trying to determine why the kids were bound. MCSO is treating this case as a criminal investigation.
