Hastings woman wanted for abducting child

A nationwide warrant for arrest has been issued for a Hastings woman,
Wendi Lee Bartell Dimm, 44. Bartell Dimm was charged last Thursday, June
23, with depriving another of parental or custodial rights, a felony. A
court order has been issued to take Bartell Dimm’s 5-year-old son,
Timber, into custody.

A nationwide warrant for arrest has been issued for a Hastings
woman, Wendi Bartell Dimm, 44. Bartell Dimm was charged last Thursday,

scheduled to pick up the boy from school, according to the custody
agreement with Bartell Dimm, explained Hastings Chief of Police Paul
Schnell. The father, who does not live in Minnesota, was supposed to
have custody of Timber for the summer. Neither Timber nor his
mother could be located, and a warrant was issued to have the child
turned over to his father. Police started investigating the incident as a
case of deprivation of parental rights since Bartell Dimm could not be
located. Bartell Dimm had been living along Shannon Drive, but the
residence had been vacated, Schnell said.

“It was reasonable to believe her intention was to deprive the father of his parental rights,” Schnell said.

No Amber Alert has been issued for Timber Dimm. Amber Alerts are issued
only when there is immediate danger to a child, Schnell said.At this point, there is no evidence to suggest the child’s life is in danger.

Bartell
Dimm is described as a white female with brown hair and brown eyes,
5’3” and 145 pounds. Timber Dimm is a white male with light brown hair
and brown eyes, standing three feet tall and weighing 40 pounds. Timber
also has white and silver caps on his teeth.Bartell Dimm may have been
driving a black or dark colored 1999 Saturn with the Minnesota license plate TRH-057.

“Our first priority and goal is ensuring the safety and well-being of Timber
Dimm,” Schnell said. “We hope that getting this information out to the
public will help us to more quickly locate Timber and quell the growing
concern for his safety,” he added.

In September 2010, Bartell Dimm
was reported to be out of compliance with a custody/visitation court
order. When she could not be located officers put out a statewide alert.
Bartell Dimm and Timber were located in Alexandria by a Douglas County
deputy sheriff who had made a routine traffic stop of Bartell Dimm’s
vehicle.

Police are asking for the public's help finding a Hastings woman and her
5-year-old son. Police are considering the case a parental abduction.

Police believe Bartell Dimm fled with her son, Timber to avoid a
court-ordered visitation with his father. The pair was last seen in the
Hastings area on or around June 5.
Officials charged Bartell Dimm last week with one felony count of depriving another of parental or custodial rights.
She is accused of fleeing for the same reason back in September. She
and her son were eventually found in Alexandria during a routine traffic
stop. A statewide alert was issued for her at the time. Police say
their main concern right now is the little boy's safety.
Timber Dimm is described as a white boy, about 3-feet tall, 40 pounds
with brown hair and brown eyes. Police say he has a slight build and
white and silver caps on his teeth.

Police believe she may be driving black or dark-colored 1999 Saturn four-door sedan with Minnesota license plates TRH-057.

HASTINGS, Minn. -- Authorities are growing more concerned with each passing day about the fate of a missing 5-year-old Hastings boy apparently kidnapped by his mother.
Hastings Police first issued a public plea June 27 for help in
locating 5-year-old Timber Dimm who is believed to be the victim of a
parental abduction. The boy's mother, 44-year-old Wendi Lee Bartell
Dimm, has been charged with one felony count of Depriving Another of
Parental or Custodial Rights. A nationwide, extraditable arrest warrant
has been issued for Bartell Dimm.
Six weeks after the plea was first issued, the trail remains stone
cold and Hastings Police Chief Paul Schnell is growing more and more
concerned about the boy's welfare.
"Given the length of time that has passed since Timber was taken and
the lack of leads we have been able to develop, we are increasingly
concerned for his safety and well-being," said Schnell in a news
release. "We now suspect that Wendi Bartell Dimm may have obtained the
assistance of others to conceal her whereabouts and aid in her continued
criminal conduct. If it is determined that she is being intentionally
concealed or aided, we will seek criminal charges to the fullest extent
of the law. In cases like this, we cannot let out of sight become out of
mind."
Bartell Dimm and her son were last seen in the Hastings area on or about June 5, 2011.
Timber Dimm, is described as a 5-year-old white male, 3 feet tall,
40 pounds with brown eyes, brown hair, and slight build with white and
silver caps on his teeth.

June was supposed to be a good month for Danny Dimm. He was going to
pick up his boy, Timber, in Hastings and head home to Canada for four
months. It was to be a great summer. It has turned into anything but.When
Dimm flew to Minnesota and drove to Shannon Drive in Hastings to pick
up Timber, he was nowhere to be found. Dimm’s wife, Wendi Bartell Dimm,
had fled with Timber and hasn’t been seen nor heard from since.It is yet another setback in a custody dispute that dates back as far as December 2006.“Financially,
it’s just about bankrupt me,” Danny Dimm said. “My success has a lot to
do with my motivation. That’s really taken a dump. It has been very,
very tough.”The stakes for Dimm have never been higher. If
his boy can be found safe, Dimm is convinced he’ll get full custody of
Timber. Right now, though, just finding the pair is his first concern.“This
is the toughest thing I’ve ever gone through,” he said. “I really
understand post-traumatic stress now. It’s been huge. This, it just goes

Bartell met online through eHarmony.com in 2005. They spoke for six to
seven months, then Wendi moved to Lillooet, Canada, to live with Danny
Dimm and they were married. Lillooet is located northeast of Vancouver.About three or four months later, Wendi was pregnant with Timber.Once
Timber was born, the relationship between Dimm and Bartell soured. Dimm
said his mother came to stay with them for 10 days after Timber’s
birth. Dimm said Wendi was so controlling that his mother held Timber
just twice during the visit.On Christmas day in 2006, Danny Dimm moved out and since then, things have been a real challenge for the couple.Bartell
wanted to return to Minnesota with Timber in 2007, but could not cross
the border without Dimm’s permission. He didn’t give it, he said,
because he wanted to be sure the couple had visitation rights figured
out before she left the country. Bartell didn’t have legal status in
Canada because she had missed a government deadline to file the
paperwork, according to a story published in 2007 by CBC News in Canada.Eventually, courts awarded Wendi Bartell Dimm full custody and she returned to Hastings. She lived on Shannon Drive.She was required by the courts to bring Timber back twice a year for week-long visits.After
Bartell Dimm failed to make that second scheduled visit, Danny Dimm
began more court proceedings. A new trial was set, but she did not show
up for that trial, Dimm said.Eventually, Dimm earned three
months of uninterrupted custody of Timber. He was supposed to pick
Timber up on Sept. 1, 2010, and return him Dec. 1, 2010. Dimm flew to
Minnesota to pick up Timber, but Wendi Bartell had vanished with their
boy.She was eventually found 36 hours later in Alexandria
with Timber in the backseat. Dimm flew to Canada with Timber and the duo
enjoyed their three months together, Dimm said.During
Timber’s first week with his father, he got his first haircut. Dimm said
he also got to work on his son’s diet, which he says had consisted
primarily of sugary treats. Timber had 12 caps on his teeth by the time
he was 4 years old and his teeth were rotting, Dimm said.On Dec. 1, Dimm handed Timber over to Wendi Bartell Dimm, and he began preparing for his son’s visit this summer.He stayed in touch with a webcam and a cell phone and couldn’t wait to scoop him up in June.Dimm said he wants custody of his child because he’s concerned about the life his boy is leading with his mother.“If
I was convinced Timber was getting a good upbringing, I would support
her 100 percent of the time,” he said. “There’s some imbalances there
that are way too big for me to understand or to deal with.”Dimm

HASTINGS, Minn. -- A missing five-year-old Hastings boy, who had been
missing since late June, was found safe with his mother Tuesday at a
women's shelter in South Dakota.

Wendi Bartell Dimm was charged on June 23 with one felony count of
depriving another of parental or custodial rights after authorities
suspected she had left town with her son.

Law enforcement officials in South Dakota turned the missing boy,
Timber Dimm, over to Child Protective Services officials pending the
transfer of custody to his father.

"We are grateful for the conscientious efforts of the person
reporting the possible whereabouts of Wendi Bartell Dimm and applaud the
National Center for Missing and

Exploited Children for their assistance and web presence, which makes everyday concerned

citizens child protectors and crime solvers," said Hastings Police
Chief Paul Schnell. "While Wendi Bartell Dimm can now be held
accountable for her actions, our primary concern was the safety and
well-being of five-year-old Timber," he added.

Bartell Dimm will be booked into the Meade County Jail in Sturgis, South Dakota, pending extradition proceedings.

This was not the first time Bartell Dimm had skipped town with her
young son. In September 2010, Bartell Dimm was found in Alexandria,
Minnesota, after missing a court ordered custody visitation.
