JORDYN ANDREAS - 4 Months - Phoenix AZ

PHOENIX - A 25-year-old Phoenix man has been arrested in
the shaking death of his 4-month-old daughter.

Police said Tuesday that they arrested Amos Carle Andreas on
Monday on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of child
abuse. He does not yet have a lawyer.

Police have been investigating the case since Andreas and the
girl's mother brought her to Phoenix Children's Hospital on July
22.

Andreas said the girl was sleeping on his chest when she fell on
the floor the night before.

But a forensic pediatrician found that the girl's injuries were
consistent with being shaken.

Police confronted Andreas, and they say that he admitted to
waking up to find his daughter on the floor and getting upset with
himself.

Andreas told police that he then picked the girl up, saw that
she had a shocked look on her face and that he shook her ``pretty
hard'' twice.

The girl died of her injuries on Aug. 15.

A deadly case of shaken baby syndrome has landed a Phoenix man behind
bars. He made his initial appearance in superior court Tuesday.
25-year-old Amos Carle Andreas has been charged with 1 count of 2nd degree murder
and two counts of child abuse in the death of his 4-month-old daughter, Jordyn Andreas.
The incident happened July 21st while the baby's mother was at work but the baby was not taken to
the hospital until the next day and because of that Andreas is being charged with child abuse.
Andreas initially told police he fell asleep with the baby on his chest and he
woke up to find she'd fallen on the floor. When she died three weeks
later, Andreas confessed he was so upset with himself for letting her fall that he shook her.
Another child, a 4-year old girl, was also living with the couple. Police told CBS 5
News Child Protective Custody has now placed her with her grandmother.
At this time it is not clear is Andreas is the 4-year-old's biological father.

Police have been investigating the case since Andreas and the girl's mother brought her to Phoenix Children's Hospital on July 22. The girl died on Aug. 15.
Andreas says the girl was sleeping on his chest when she fell on the floor the night before. But a forensic pediatrician found that the girl's injuries were consistent with being shaken.
Maricopa County prosecutors say Andreas entered his plea in court Thursday. His initial pretrial conference is scheduled for Oct. 25.
