LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- A 2-year-old girl who was severely injured Wednesday
afternoon while in the care of her mother's 24-year-old boyfriend has
died from her injuries.

Dolci Gryshayeva was found unconscious on the 700 block of South Vance
Street after paramedics responded to a report of a child not breathing.

Keith Nick Ruiz was arrested Wednesday on child abuse charges.
Authorities say the charges will be amended following the toddler's death.
Investigators say Ruiz and the toddler were the only ones home at the time of the alleged attack.

LAKEWOOD - A 2-year-old girl has died after police say they were
called to an apartment Wednesday on reports of a child that wasn't
breathing.

Lakewood Police say they were called to the apartment in
the 700 block of South Vance Street shortly after 5 p.m. Officers say
when they arrived, they found 2-year-old Dolci Gryshayeva unresponsive
and took her to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

"I had just driven home from school, just as I was pulling up I saw a
fire truck, an ambulance and cop cars and then I saw a paramedic
carrying out this little girl. She looked lifeless. I was hoping she was
OK," Holly Rosen, a resident at the apartment complex, said.

Officers arrested 24-year-old Keith Nick Ruiz, believed to be the
boyfriend of the 2-year-old's mother. He was the only person at the
apartment when officers arrived. Officers say the child's mother was not
home at the time of the incident but did arrive at the scene a short
time later.

"There's enough probable cause to say this isn't an accidental death
of this child and that's why we are going through an extreme search of
the residence," Sgt. Mitchell Harper with Lakewood Police said.

"We are looking at everything from bedding to clothing to any type of
fluids. Basically trying to piece together what happened," says Harper.


Investigators have been at the scene since the incident, guarding the
area and looking for evidence. But as of Saturday afternoon, residents
at the apartment complex still hadn't been notified what was going on.

"Makes us feel uneasy we don't know what's going on here. We haven't been told anything and so we are scared," says Rosen.

Rosen says even though she didn't know Dolci, she can't stop thinking about her.

"It's really sad. I had been thinking about her in the back of my
mind since Wednesday and I was hoping she would survive and be OK. It's
just a tragedy," Rosen said.

Ruiz was originally charged with child abuse resulting in serious
bodily injury. He is now facing a charge of child abuse resulting in
death.

Ruiz remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail on $100,000 bond. 9News asked to interview him. He declined.
Ruiz has a few misdemeanors in his criminal history report.

Keith Ruiz will be in Jefferson County Colorado court on Monday September 26 for a demand for preliminary hearing.

We have learned that Dolci was brain-dead upon arrival at the hospital in Denver and her mom and grandparents decided to terminate life support 2 days later. She died on September 10 and her organs were donated..

Since his arrest Keith's friends and family have turned to threatening and harassing Anastasia's friends and family as well as holding a party to raise money at the local VFW which everyone should be opposed to and seen as sick and pathetic...

They also have resorted to attacking Anastasia and trying to make her out to be Casey Anthony which she is not.. Keith reportedly spanked Dolci 2 days before he bludgeoned her to death...

The Jeffco DA has also apparently assigned his 2 senior most deputy DA's and appears to be at least seeking the death penalty.

I would especially like to know if his charges have been upgraded to murder.

Not yet but I am expecting after Monday's hearing that they willbe. Colorado has a death penalty but rarely uses it. There are 3 men on it now with only one lose to execution.

Also be advised that a local VFW is hosting a fundraiser for the babykiller. a "fiesta for keith" is planned for saturday night. Is this an appropriate use of a vfw?

---In my opinion, No. I understand that the halls can be rented for private parties but somebody at the hall forgot to check what the event was for and had already signed the contract before that was revealed. Looks like the attorneys will have to add a new clause to the contract allowing the hall to cancel the fiesta in the event that the purposes are deemed unseemly and not within community standards.

Family mourns 2-year-old's death in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Friends and family of Dolci Gryshayeva turned out today to make sure her death does not go unnoticed.

They stood on the street corner near Sheridan and W. Colfax carrying signs to bring awareness to Dolci's death and the problem of child abuse.

"This is a horrible thing that happened. This little girl was probably wondering why her Mom's boyfriend was hurting her," Mercedes Hess said.

24-year old Keith Ruiz is charged with Dolci's death. Lakewood investigators say the little girl suffered multi-broken bones and "non accidental trauma." They believe Ruiz was the last person to be with Dolci when she was hurt.

"For me, I just want to be the voice of this little baby who died," Crystal Agaron expressed through her tears. Gail Guerrero is Dolci's great grandmother.

"I am furious. I am mad," she said. Ruiz is being held on a $100,000 bond. He is due in court for a hearing this Monday morning. Dolci's friends and family promise to be there.

“I hope Keith gets the greatest thing they can do to him.I hope he gets the death penalty because that is exactly what he deserves, “Mercedes Hess said.
