"Newborn Jane" SCHULKERS - 7 Weeks - Cleves (NW of Cinci) OH

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. -- A Tri-State father is accused beating his infant daughter, causing serious injuries.


Joshua Schulkers, 22, of Cleves, was arrested Tuesday after being charged with
battery on a person less than 14 years of age and child abuse or neglect.
WCSH-FM said Schulkers allegedly caused his 7-week-old daughter to have a fractured skull, broken ribs and a lacerated liver.Further details about the incident have not been released.Schulkers is being held at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center pending an initial court appearance.

I hope they charge him with more than just batter and then maybe he'll wipe that d@mn grin off his face. I just can't believe how many parents kill their babies. This is so disheartening.

9/4/2012: Indiana: A West Harrison man who
seriously injured his seven-week-old daughter will serve a 48-year
sentence, a Dearborn County Judge ordered. Joshua Schulkers, 23, of West
Harrison, was arrested in October of 2011 after his baby
daughter
was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The child had suffered a
broken skull, ribs, and a lacerated liver. Doctors said the injuries,
which could have claimed the baby's life, were caused by blunt force
trauma by child abuse.

Schulkers was convicted on July 27 by a
jury on two counts of Neglect of a Dependant Resulting in Serious
Bodily Injury, and two counts of Battery on a Child Under 14 years of
Age Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, all Class B felonies. He was
also convicted on single counts of Aggravated Battery (Class B felony),
Neglect of a Dependant (Class C felony) and Battery on a Child Under 14
Years of Age (Class D felony).

Dearborn Superior Court II
Judge Sally Blankenship sentenced Schulkers to the maximum 48 years he
faced during sentencing on Tuesday.

Blankenship cited the
nature and circumstances of the crimes, the Schulkers' lack of remorse,
his violations of court orders while incarcerated and his significant
criminal history as the reasons for his maximum sentence.


“Judge Blankenship’s sentence protects any other innocent victims from
getting hurt by this terrible person and more importantly provides
justice to a little baby girl who was almost killed by the one person
who was supposed to protect her, her father,” said Dearborn-Ohio County
Prosecutor Aaron Negangard.
