Michelle Parker: Woman Goes Missing After 'The People's Court' Episode Airs

Hours after Michelle Parker aired her
violent, tumultuous relationship with her ex-fiance on a dramatic
episode of 'The People's Court,' she captured national attention again.
This time, it's because the 33-year-old mother of three had disappeared
from her Orlando, Florida, home without a trace.

Ms
Parker and Dale Smith fought it out over a $5,000 engagement ring on
the popular courtroom reality show. Mr Smith sued his former fiance and
claimed she lost the ring when she threw it at him in a fight at a
Hilton Hotel during a science fiction convention.

Police
said Ms Parker has a 'violent' history with Mr Smith, though he is not
named as a suspect. In the 'People's Court' episode, Ms Parker described
being grabbed by Mr Smith and having to call police after a fight.

On the show, Judge Marilyn Milian tells the couple: 'You're like drugs to each other. You're addicted to each other.'

She
decried their volatile relationship, saying that each of them needs to
move on from their on-again-off again romance that has lasted since
2006. She added that the pair needs to 'grow up' and 'move on' for the
sake of the 3-year-old twins they have together.

Ms Parker's family reported her
missing Thursday night when she didn't show up for work at 8 p.m. at The
Barn restaurant, where she is a bartender.
She was last seen by friends at 2 p.m. Thursday, not long after her episode of 'The People's Court' aired on TV.

'She's an amazing person and we just want to see her home,' Lauren Erikson, Michelle's sister, told WKMG in Orlando.
Ms Parker is 5-foot-6 with short, dark
brown hair. Her black Humvee was also reported reported missing, though
investigators found it empty.

Perhaps
most mysteriously, she sent a text message to her brother about 4:30
p.m. saying she was in the Waterford Lakes area of Orlando. But when
investigators tracked her cell phone, they found she was never near
there.

'They searched the towers, that was a decoy,' Ms Parker's mother Yvonne Stewart said.
Ms Parker is the mother of an 11-year-old son and two 3-year-old twins, who she had with Mr Smith.
The couple went through a custody battle over the children in 2009, according to court documents.

Ms Parker accused her ex-boyfriend of
domestic violence that same year, saying he hurled profanities at her
while holding one of the couple's twins. He also threw their child car
seats and broke the window out of her car, she alleged.

Despite
the link to a volatile lover, family members told the Orlando Sentinel
they don't think Mr. Smith was involved and that he is working with
police.
'He's been completely cooperative,' Ms Erickson said.
Rather, it seems likely she was carjacked, they said.
'There's no one focus. There's no tunnel vision. All information is welcome,' Ms Erickson said.

Michelle Parker vanishes same day she appears on "The People's Court"

(CBS/WKMG) ORLANDO, Fla. - Police in Florida
are searching for Michelle Lee Parker, a 33-year-old mother who was last
seen in Orlando with her friends the same day she appeared on the
syndicated courtroom reality show "The People's Court."

According to CBS affiliate WKMG, authorities located the missing woman's vehicle, a black Hummer, on the west side of Orlando.
"She's an amazing person and we just want to see her home," Parker's sister Lauren told the station.
Orlando police said Parker has a violent history with her ex-boyfriend, Dale
Smith. He has not been named as a suspect. Smith's father said he was
home when she went missing.
Family and friends handed out flyers throughout Orlando on Friday as they hope for the best.
"We're going to find her and I'm hoping, I'm praying for a miracle," Parker's mother Yvonne Stewart told WKMG.
The family said they became worried when her brother texted Parker asking where she was and she responded "Waterford."
"The police said her phone was never in Waterford. They searched the towers, that was a decoy," said Stewart.
Parker appeared as a defendant Thursday on an episode of "The People's Court"
with her ex-boyfriend over a $5,000 engagement ring she lost during a
fight. It is not known when the show was recorded.
Parker is described as a white woman, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with short dark brown hair.

This story has been all over the news here in S FLA..the past couple of days...at first I didnt really pay too much attention other than thinking oh no...geez...another poor girl...etc...then, when I SAW the pic of Michelle, I gasped and thought geeze she looks similar to KC...hope no one mistook her for that piece of crap.

So, glad TES is back in town and helping with the search...and, hope they have a better outcome!

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Missing since Thursday, Michelle Parker's mom is hopeful her daughter will come safe and soon.

"I am very hopeful because everyday that we go out there and look for this precious baby girl, we don't find her some place where we really don't want to find her," said Yvonne Stewart, Monday night from the command post set up along East Oak Ridge Road, near Jess Black Saloon.

"We're still looking forward to seeing her pretty face come home," she said with tears falling from her eyes.

Since Parker disappeared over twenty-thousand missing persons flyers have been handed out, hundreds of volunteers have stepped up and the ground search is far from over.

Hundreds of people have called Crime-line with tips so far.

"The tips have been rolling in so fast, they have to put them on computers to dissect them all and get the timelines," said Stewart.

According to investigators, Michelle Parker dropped her twins off at her ex-boyfriend, Dale Smith's house Thursday afternoon.

From there, she didn't go home or show up to work that night, like she was suppose to.

Her Hummer, however, was discovered Friday, the very next day, about 14-miles away from Smith's home.

Detectives searched his house and have questioned him more than once, but they as he is cooperating and does not appear to be a suspect in Parker's disappearance.

"People are calling saying they've spotted that Hummer with the glow sticker, they've seen her in that time frame in the Hummer," said Stewart.

Orlando Police Department is handling the missing person investigation.

As of this report, they are not saying whether they found any clues inside of Parker's Hummer.

What they are saying is they've got about 16 detectives working on the case and they're getting help from Texas Equusearch and Central Florida Help and Rescue Group.


"Our search extends to pretty much everywhere at this point," said Sgt. Jim Young at a press conference Monday.

"We're treating this as a missing persons investigation, which aren't necessarily criminal in nature, so there wouldn't be suspects or persons of interests named."

In the meantime, Michelle's mom Yvonne, has a message for anyone involved in her daughter's disappearance.

"I think they need to just understand they made a mistake, they may have just wanted to steal a hummer and didn't expect all this media and all this attention and now they're like what do we do now, just let her go."

Crimeline is offering a $5,000 reward.

Missing mom’s family holds vigil

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Dozens of people lit candles for Michelle Parker Sunday night, as the search for the missing mother intensifies.

The search group EquuSearch is now helping family; friends and police look for Parker.

Sunday searches covered several miles on ATV’s as they looked for Parker, 33, who was last seen by her friends at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Orlando.

Parker's vehicle has been located by the Orlando Police Department on the west side of Orlando; however, Parker has not been located.

Police say Parker has violent history with her ex-boyfriend, Dale Smith, the father of their twins. However, police do not consider Smith a suspect. Parker also has an 11-year-old son from a previous relationship. Police say her son came home from school at around 3:30 p.m. Thursday and his mother wasn't home, so he contacted his grandmother, who alerted police.

Anyone with information as to Parker's whereabouts is asked to call the Orlando Police Department at 321-235-5300


On Thursday, Parker and Smith appeared on an episode of The People's Court which aired on FOX 35. The segment was taped months ago and was about a dispute over an engagement ring.

Parker and Smith got into a fight at Dragon Con, a sci-fi convention held in Altanta. During the dispute Parker threw the engagement ring over a balcony.

Smith looked for the ring, which was valued at $5,000, but was unable to find it. Police were called and ordered the couple to stay in separate rooms that evening. In court, Parker said Smith left her in Atlanta and she had to find her own way back to Orlando, where they both reside.

Once back home, they reconciled but a month later the couple again split up and Smith filed a lawsuit demanding Parker pay him back $5,000 for the ring. The two later appeared on The People’s Court.

When Judge Marilyn Milian asked Parker if their relationship has always been like this she responded, "He gets pretty malicious and vindictive. He's a mean person, especially when he's drinking. Any of the problems that we had, it's always been alcohol."

When the judge asked why she threw the ring, Parker said, "He shouldn't have put his hands on me, and he shouldn't have put his hands on me prior."

Following Parker and Smith's testimony, Judge Milian ordered Parker to pay Smith $2,500, half the cost of the ring.

Texas EquuSearch joins search for missing mom

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —


Texas EquuSearch volunteers joined the search on Monday for missing mother of three Michelle Parker.

Parker was last seen last on Thursday after dropping her kids off at her ex-fiance's home.

Over the weekend, an important piece of evidence was found. Searchers found her car parked at an apartment complex.

Parker's cell phone signal stopped transmitting in the area along Oak Ridge Road in Orlando, investigators said.

"We are open to any possibility to what could have happened. We are not trying to have a tunnel vision on one specific thing or person," said Parker's sister.

Parker's family denied that her ex-fiance was involved in her disappearance and that he's staying home with the children during the search.

"He is crying right along with the rest of us. He has done everything the cops have asked him to do gladly," said Parker's mother, Yvonne Stewart.

In the meantime, volunteers have been handing out hundreds of fliers, including her mother.

"Every Dumpster, you are like, 'Michelle, I hope you are not in here, baby I hope you are not in here.' And you get up and you crawl on top of stuff and you are like, 'This one is eliminated. You are not here.' That is what we are doing," Stewart said.

WFTV found out that Parker's SUV was in a parking lot at the Walden Palms Condominiums near the Mall at Millenia.

"It wasn't parked like she went to an apartment. I could be wrong. It was parked like somebody was parked there," said witness Stephanie Devaughn.

Sources told WFTV there was little or no evidence found in the SUV. Also, a bloodhound was brought in but never discovered a viable scent to follow, investigators said.

Family and friends held a vigil for Parker on Sunday night.

"I’m mad. I’m mad somebody took her and is doing this to her and our family," said Stewart.

Parker’s family joined hundreds of friends to pray for Parker’s safe return. They held candles and told stories.

"I went in a crack house today, first time in my life, looking for my daughter," said Stewart.

There is a $5,000 reward being offered for information leading to Parker.

There are a few similarities between Parker's case and two other high-profile missing persons' cases in Central Florida.

Jennifer Kesse disappeared in January 2006. Her car was found abandoned at an apartment complex near the Mall at Millenia just as Parker's was.

A person was caught on surveillance video walking away from the car, but no arrests were made and Kesse hasn't been found.

Tracy Ocasio disappeared in 2009. She was last seen leaving a bar in the Metrowest area with James Hattaway.

Hattaway is the main suspect in her disappearance, but he has not been charged.

He is serving a life sentence for trying to kill another woman.

The final hours before Michelle Parker vanished were seemingly normal.
She stopped by the Oviedo hair salon owned by her mom and sister, then
drove her 3-year-old twins to their father's house in the Carter Glen
Townhomes off Goldenrod Road. Parker, 33, was scheduled to bartend that
night at The Barn in Sanford, but never showed up.
It's almost been a week since the Geneva mother was last seen. And as the moments tick away, it
becomes more difficult for family and friends.
"Time is always the enemy," said Robert Lowery, executive director of
the missing-children division at the Center for Missing and Exploited
Children in Virginia. "The sooner we can find them, the better."
The Orlando Police Department's homicide unit has been tasked
with finding Parker, standard procedure in missing adult cases. No
suspects have been named.

"We are not ruling anything out," police spokesman Sgt. Jim Young said. "We want to find Michelle and bring her home safely."

While there aren't many definite answers in the case, police have released a handful of details about what happened Nov. 17.

• 3:15 p.m.: Video surveillance in an east Orange County neighborhood
captured Parker driving to Dale Smith Jr.'s home to drop off their
3-year-old twins. Just minutes before she arrived, Parker and Smith, her
ex-fiance, appeared in a previously taped episode of the "The People's
Court" during which they argued about a lost $5,000 engagement ring.

She was wearing a silver-cross necklace — a detail revealed today for
the first time — jeans and a Florida Gator's zip-up hoodie.

•4:26 p.m.: Parker's brother, Dustin Erickson, received a text message from his sister's iPhone suggesting that she was in the Waterford Lakes area, also on the county's east side.

8 p.m.: Parker's iPhone 'pinged' in the area of Oakridge Road near Belle Isle, more than seven miles from where she was last seen. Her phone was powered down in that area and has not been recovered.

The next day, police found Parker's H3 Hummer in the parking lot of
Walden Palms Apartments, 4700 Walden Circle. Decals for her Glow
mobile-tanning business had been removed from the windows. From there,
the trail has gone cold.

In the days since Parker vanished, her family and friends have rallied
the community into action. They commandeered a parking lot at the
now-shuttered Jesse Black Saloon on Oakridge Road, making it ground zero for searchers.

Thousands of fliers and hundreds of T-shirts have been printed with Parker's picture and information about her disappearance.

Yvonne Stewart has pleaded with the public to help her find her
daughter, tearfully asking for the safe return of her "best friend."

Reward For Missing Mom Increases By $50K

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The reward for information in the case of a missing mother is increasing significantly.
Yvonne
Stewart, Michelle Parker's mother, announced Friday that a private
donor is now offering an additional reward of $50,000 for her daughter's
safe return. The reward amount had stood at $13,000.The family has set a deadline of midnight Sunday and has set up a tip line for information on Parker's safe return."If you know anything in your conscience, please do it now. If your tip
is the one that leads us to her safe return, you'll get $50,000 and we

On Thursday, search teams re-checked three key places in Orange County
-- the Walden Palms Apartments where Parker's Hummer was found
abandoned, Oak Ridge Road, the last place Parker's phone was turned on,
and the Carter Glenn Apartments, where Parker was last seen dropping of

The Orlando Police Department released a new photo of Parker on
Wednesday that shows a necklace that may be a key piece of evidence.Investigators
said Parker's family told them she was wearing a unique cross necklace
when she disappeared one week ago Thursday. It was described as a bigger
cross with stones, and an extra jewel at each of the four points of the
cross.

Police raided an Orlando, Fla., home overnight as they probed the 10-day disappearance of Michelle Parker, the mother who vanished the same day she and her ex-fiancé aired a dispute on The People's Court.

"Roughly 12 guys piled out, banged on the door, [and] yelled 'search warrant, search warrant,' and basically took everybody out of the house," neighbor Don Partin said.

The home belongs to Dale Smith Sr., the father of Parker's ex-fiancé, Dale Smith Jr., according to reports.

Smith Sr. was removed from the home in handcuffs, witnesses told ABC News affiliate WFTV. Two women, another man and some children also were taken out of the house, according to witness reports.

"They took everybody out, sat them in the yard," Partin said. "And then the cops went in, and the crime lab went in and pretty much everybody from all departments showed up."

It was unclear what initiated the raid.

Parker, 33, has been missing since Nov. 17, the day The People's Court aired an episode that exposed the tumultuous relationship between her and Smith Jr., the father of her two children.

Parker disappeared after she dropped her 3-year-old twins off at the Smith's house, the last place Parker was seen.

Police and Parker's parents have been saying Smith Jr. is not a suspect.

Appearing on the courtroom show, Parker and Smith battled over whether she had to pay for a $5,000 engagement ring she tossed away during one of their spats. The judge ruled the two should split the cost.

In the episode, the couple hurled accusations at each other and fought nastily. A court reporter called their relationship a "fatal attraction."

Parker's parents amped up their search for their daughter this weekend, even offering a $50,000 reward for any information leading to her whereabouts.

That reward had an expiration date of Sunday to motivate tipsters to act soon.

"If you know something, you know it," Parker's mother Yvonne Stewart said.

Parker's mother wanted a time limit on the reward money to encourage people with tips to come forward immediately.

"She's worth millions of dollars to me and my family, but I think $50,000 is an awesome amount," said Stewart.

Earlier this week, Parker's family released her final voicemail and a new batch of photos in the hope that someone would recognize the missing mother of three.

Parker left a nine-second message for her father on the day before she vanished, asking him to call her.

"Anything families can do to keep their case in front of the media and the public, they should do," said Brad Garrett, an ABC News consultant and former FBI special agent.

Parker's family has conceded that Smith's relationship with Parker was volatile, but Smith has also been described as a dedicated and loving father who cared for Parker, even when the two didn't get along.
While police do not currently consider Dale Smith a suspect, they have not ruled him out as a possibility.

The Orlando police chief this evening announced that the former fiance of missing Geneva mother Michelle Parker is the only suspect in her disappearance.

Dale Smith II, 40, the father of her 3-year-old twins, is the last person known to have seen her. The couple have a violent past.

Parker, 33, was last seen Nov. 17 driving her the twins to Smith's town house in Carter Glen Condominiums off Goldenrod Road.

Police Chief Paul Rooney today revealed that Smith would not take a lie-detector test as requested.
"We had to look at every aspect of the case before we could come out publicly and state that Mr. Smith is our primary focus," Rooney said.

"He is our primary suspect," Rooney added. "There are no other suspects that I am aware of as Orlando police chief."

Orlando lawyer Mark NeJame and his partner Rajan Joshi are representing Smith, NeJame told the Orlando Sentinel late Monday.

Parker's mother, Yvonne Stewart, appeared with the chief at a news conference and encouraged volunteers to continue to help search for her daughter.

"This is a sad day, really, but I think it was inevitable," Stewart said.

Parker's sister, Lauren Erickson, appealed to Smith.

"I'd say to him directly: Help us," Erickson said.

Parker and Smith appeared on an episode of "The People's Court" that aired shortly before she vanished. They argued about a $5,000 engagement ring that got lost after she threw it at him during an argument. Smith in May sued Parker in civil court, about the time the episode was taped.

In August 2009, Parker requested a domestic-violence injunction against Smith. She said in court papers that he was holding their then-15-month-old daughter when he cursed at her and broke the passenger-side window on her truck during an argument over the children.

Parker told the court that Smith previously had been violent with her and had threatened to kidnap their children. She also said Smith had problems with drugs and alcohol.

The injunction was dismissed Sept. 1, 2009. It is not clear why.

Smith was arrested several times during the 1990s. He pleaded no contest in 1990 to trespassing on school grounds and in 1992 to attempted aggravated battery. He entered a pretrial diversion in 1992 after being arrested on a charge of marijuana possession. He pleaded guilty in 1997 to battery.

In June 1996, Smith joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was court-martialed in 2001 and found guilty of drug and domestic-battery charges, the military agency said. Smith was dishonorably discharged as a private in 2003.

Parker, a Winter Park High School graduate, was scheduled to work the night of her disappearance at a bartending job at The Barn in Sanford, but she never showed up.

Her abandoned Hummer was found Nov. 18 at an apartment complex near Conroy and Vineland roads. Decals for her mobile-tanning business had been removed from the windows.

On Saturday, officers served a search warrant at Smith's parents' home on Rose Boulevard in Orlando, said Sgt. Vincent Ogburn, a police spokesman. He would not reveal what, if anything was found.

Parker's twins are being cared for by Smith's parents, authorities said. She has an 11-year-old son from a previous relationship.

Investigators from the state Department of Children and Families interviewed the children today and are conducting a child-protection investigation because the DCF hotline received reports of past domestic violence between the couple, a spokeswoman said.

Family, friends and volunteers — some strangers to Parker — have been passing out and posting thousands of missing-persons fliers throughout Central Florida. They fan out daily from a command post at Oak Ridge Road near Orange Avenue in south Orlando, near a tower that sent the last transmission from Parker's cellphone.

A Facebook group dedicated to helping locate Parker has gained more than 9,300 followers.

Police urge anyone with information about the case to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.

Parker's Children Taken From Suspect, Missing Mom's Ex
Parker Now Missing 12 Days


ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Department of Children and Families has taken missing mom Michelle Parker's children away from the man police say is their primary suspect in her disappearance, Dale Smith Jr.
An emergency custody hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday morning. Parker's mother, Yvonne Stewart, was given access to see the children Tuesday afternoon, DCF said.
Investigators with the Orlando Police Department said on Monday that Smith, who is Parker's ex-fiance and the father of their twins, may have something to do with her disappearance. Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney said Smith was his department's primary suspect.

Meanwhile, Parker's family has retained the Morgan and Morgan law firm to represent them in legal matters.
Brad Parker, Michelle's father, said he arrived at the police command post with high hopes. Parker said it may prompt Smith or his family to come forward with information. But Smith retained prominent defense attorney Mark NeJame instead.
"They got my grandkids, and that's their mom, and for them not to come forth, it's mind-boggling," Parker said.
Michelle Parker's brother, Dustin Erickson, said their mother has been fighting to see the children.
“She has been really apt to see them again and to get some cooperation. They were playing Legos and watching Thomas the Train, but they were asking for their mother,” said Erickson.
NBC's "Today" featured excerpts taken from Dale Smith's Facebook page that promoted the former couple's appearance on "The People's Court."

On the day of Parker's disappearance, Smith posted, "The police just came by and searched my whole house ... this isn't good. My kids need their mother."
Smith also posted that he was praying for Parker's safe return. Soon after his ex-fiancee's disappearance, Smith denied any involvement in it.
"I'm not that type of person. If you know me, then you know the truth," Smith wrote.
Meanwhile, a $50,000 reward to help find the missing mother of three who disappeared 11 days ago is now off the table.
NeJame held a news conference Tuesday afternoon and said Smith wouldn't be taking a polygraph test and has been unfairly targeted.
"Not one single court in the United States of America accepts polygraphs as scientifically reliable and admissible," NeJame said.
NeJame said Smith has provided voluntary statements to investigators on three occasions and has helped to get Texas EquuSearch to help find Parker.
"Mr. Smith wants Michelle found," NeJame said. "What guilty person is asking for a search to be conducted?"

Michelle Parker case: DCF removes children from suspect Dale Smith's custody

Michelle Parker's 3-year-old twins have been removed from their father, the sole suspect in her disapperance, according to the Department of Children and Families.

The state agency obtained a court-order to remove the children immediately and place them temporarily in protective custody.

An emergeny hearing will be held Wednesday morning.

Earlier this afternoon, an attorney representing Dale Smith II, the ex-fiancé of Michelle Parker, defended his client as a caring father this afternoon, while criticizing the police who named Smith a suspect in her disappearance.

Smith's lawyer, Mark NeJame, addressed the media on Smith's behalf for the first time about 4 p.m. Tuesday, the day after Orlando police said Smith is their sole suspect.

NeJame accused police of leaking to the media that Smith had refused a lie-detector test. He said the Police Department doesn't allow its officers, when accused of misdeeds, to take those tests.

"Why? Because they know that they're not scientifically reliable," NeJame said. In at-times-heated remarks, he called the actions of Orlando police officials "the epitome of hypocrisy."

NeJame asserted his client's innocence, and said that Smith has not participated in the search for Parker because he is busy taking care of the couple's 3-year-old twins.

"He's done the right thing: providing security" to the children, NeJame said, adding that Smith has given at least three voluntary statements to police during the investigation.

Smith has been laying low since Orlando police officially named him a suspect in his former fiancé's disappearance Monday, but was spotted leaving his parents home before noon today.

Also today, Parker's family retained Morgan & Morgan to represent them.

"We are going to help navigate them through the legal process," lawyer Matt Morgan said. "They are unfamiliar with what they are going through and we will offer guidance and advice."

Morgan said he and his father, high-profile attorney John Morgan, will represent the family.

"We want to make sure everything is being done to find Michelle," Matt Morgan said.

The law firm may hold a news conference Wednesday, he said.

Today marks the first day of searching for Parker since Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney announced Monday that Smith "is our primary focus" in solving the disappearance.

Smith, 40, the father of Parker's 3-year-old twins, is the last person known to have seen her. The two have a violent past.

Parker, 33, was last seen Nov. 17 driving the twins to Smith's townhouse in Carter Glen Condominiums off Goldenrod Road.

Rooney revealed Monday that Smith would not take a lie-detector test as requested.
"We had to look at every aspect of the case before we could come out publicly and state that Mr. Smith is our primary focus," Rooney said Monday.

"He is our primary suspect," Rooney added. "There are no other suspects that I am aware of as Orlando police chief."

Parker and Smith appeared on an episode of "The People's Court" that aired shortly before she vanished. They argued about a $5,000 engagement ring that got lost after she threw it at him during an argument. Smith in May sued Parker in civil court, about the time the episode was taped.

In August 2009, Parker requested a domestic-violence injunction against Smith. She said in court papers that he was holding their then-15-month-old daughter when he cursed at her and broke the passenger-side window on her truck during an argument over the children.

Parker told the court that Smith previously had been violent with her and had threatened to kidnap their children. She also said Smith had problems with drugs and alcohol.

The injunction was dismissed Sept. 1, 2009. It is not clear why.

Smith was arrested several times during the 1990s. He pleaded no contest in 1990 to trespassing on school grounds and in 1992 to attempted aggravated battery. He entered a pretrial diversion in 1992 after being arrested on a charge of marijuana possession. He pleaded guilty in 1997 to battery.

In June 1996, Smith joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was court-martialed in 2001 and found guilty of drug and domestic-battery charges, the military agency said. Smith was dishonorably discharged as a private in 2003.

Parker, a Winter Park High School graduate, was scheduled to work the night of her disappearance at a bartending job at The Barn in Sanford, but she never showed up.

Her abandoned Hummer was found Nov. 18 at an apartment complex near Conroy and Vineland roads. Decals for her mobile-tanning business had been removed from the windows.

On Saturday, officers served a search warrant at Smith's parents' home on Rose Boulevard in Orlando, said Sgt. Vincent Ogburn, a police spokesman. He would not reveal what, if anything was found.

Parker's twins are being cared for by Smith's parents, authorities said. She has an 11-year-old son from a previous relationship.

Investigators from the state Department of Children and Families interviewed the children Monday and are conducting a child-protection investigation because the DCF hotline received reports of past domestic violence between the couple, a spokeswoman said.

Family, friends and volunteers — some strangers to Parker — have been passing out and posting thousands of missing-persons fliers throughout Central Florida. They fan out daily from a command post at Oak Ridge Road near Orange Avenue in south Orlando, near a tower that sent the last transmission from Parker's cell phone.

A Facebook group dedicated to helping locate Parker has gained more than 9,300 followers.

A past between Parker and Smith that sometimes became violent came to light in the episode of “The People’s Court’’ that involved a dispute over a $5,000 engagement ring. Parker was ordered by the judge to pay $2,500 for half the cost of the ring. Parker made mention of a tempestuous past with Smith.

Smith remains in custody of the couple’s three-year-old twins and has not allowed Parker’s family to see them, according to Erickson. On Saturday, a SWAT team raided his father’s home, but the police said they found nothing of significance.

“I don’t think he would ever do anything to hurt his own children,’’ Erickson said. “He has surprised me in the past in doing things that I thought he would never do, so is there concern? Yeah, kind of.’’

Parker’s family had no idea Smith even had an active Facebook account, thinking it was deleted, and Erickson said he is not friends with anyone in the Parker family.

“He has not tried to contact my family to help hand out a single flyer,’’ Erickson said.

A day after Parker’s disappearance, her Hummer sport-utility vehicle was found abandoned on the west side of Orlando, according to police. Her brother also reported getting a cryptic, one-word text message — that said, simply, "Waterford" — from Parker’s phone at 4:26 p.m. on the day of her disappearance. Waterford is an area of Orlando. At 6:50 p.m., Erickson received a call from Parker’s 11-year-old son from another relationship who was concerned that his mother was not home yet. Parker did not show up for her shift as a bartender at 7:30 p.m.

Smith Jr. has declined to take a polygraph test and has hired a well-known Orlando criminal attorney. On Facebook, he pleaded for Parker’s return while also making statements to clear his name, but did not respond to NBC’s requests for comment.

The ex-fiance of an Orlando mom has been named the prime suspect in the woman's disappearance after both appeared on a taped episode of "The People's Court" in a dispute over an engagement ring.

Michelle Parker was last seen dropping off her 3-year-old twins at ex-fiance Dale Smith Jr.'s home on Nov. 17, according to the woman's sister, Lauren Erickson


Erickson said her brother received a suspicious text message from Parker's phone at 4:26 p.m. that same day, indicating she was in the Waterford area.

"She doesn't send one-word text messages," Erickson said.

On Saturday, the Orlando police department's swat team raided the home of Smith but Parker's brother, Dustin Erickson, told a local news station that police did not uncover any evidence during the raid.

Even so, Orlando police on Monday named Smith the prime suspect in the 33-year-old mother's disappearance.

She vanished the same day a taped episode of "The People's Court" aired featuring her and Smith, who is the father of the twins. They were in court over a dispute about a $5,000 engagement ring. Parker described a tumultuous relationship with Smith that at times she said became violent.

"He gets pretty malicious and vindictive," Parker said on the show, "and he's a mean person especially when he's been drinking."

"He shouldn't have put his hands on me and he shouldn't have put his hands on me prior. He shouldn't have left me three or four times over the past year and a half that we've been together," she said.

Erickson suggested that Dale was an unlikely suspect in her sister's disappearance but said "in my opinion, nobody is ruled out by any means."

"Who would want to hurt the mother of their children?" Erickson said. "I don't see how in any way he would benefit from it."

Parker's Hummer sport-utility vehicle was found abandoned a day later on the west side of Orlando, police officials said.

An attorney hired by Smith says his client is not guilty of any crime.

Mark NeJame said at a news conference Tuesday that Smith is asking for Texas Equusearch to search for missing 33-year-old Michelle Parker, provided Orlando authorities approve.

NeJame also says Smith is declining to take a lie detector test because it's unreliable and not because he is hiding anything.

The woman's mother, Yvonne Stewart, said on NBC's "Today" show last week that she believes her daughter, who is a well known bartender in the Orlando area, was kidnapped after being the victim of a random carjacking.

"I know in my heart of heart that she's been carjacked, that the people saw an expensive car and a girl who looks like she has money and I know they've made a mistake and I know that they want to fix this and I forgive them," Stewart said.

Parker is described as 5 foot, 6 inches tall with short, dark brown hair. Anyone with information on her disappearance is being urged to call the Orlando Police Department at (321) 235-5300.
