Souderton man faces trial on rape charges

One teenage girl is claiming a Souderton man plied her with
alcohol and money in exchange for sex and a second teen says he
tried to rape her.

Jairo David Castillo, 40, of the Souderton Gardens Apartments,
faces trial on 27 counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual
intercourse and related offenses following a preliminary hearing
Tuesday before District Judge Kenneth Deatelhauser.

Castillo is being held in Montgomery County prison on $100,000
bail. He also is being detained pending an investigation by
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers.
Police said in early November a then 14-year-old girl reported
she’d been threatened and sexually assaulted by Castillo. The girl
told police Castillo provided her with alcohol, often vodka or
wine, according to court records.

She said a few weeks before she talked to police, Castillo
started requesting sexual favors, according to court records. She
said they engaged in oral sex numerous times and he gave her
money.

She told police she grew tired of exchanging sex for money, but
Castillo forced her to continue, according to court records. She
said he attempted to have intercourse, but she resisted.
This first teen told police about the second teen.

Flanked Tuesday by a half-dozen social workers, the first teen
estimated she and Castillo engaged in sex 17 times and he
threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

The second teen, a 17-year-old, told police a couple of days
after Halloween she and the first victim stayed at Castillo’s home
after he returned from a night out, according to court records.
The older girl testified he plied the girls with vodka then
ordered them into his bedroom. With her mother sitting next to her
on the witness stand in Deatelhauser’s courtroom, the teen said
Castillo “threatened (to get) us to touch him.”

She said he threatened to beat her and then he fondled the teens
and attempted to rape her, but the teens pushed him away, according
to court records.

At the end of the hearing, Castillo’s attorney argued that some
of the 27 counts of rape should be dropped, since between the two
girls they testified to 18 incidents. He also argued oral sex was
not rape. However, Deatelhauser ordered all the charges bound for
trial.

Castillo has no other criminal record in Pennsylvania. He lives
in the same apartment complex where James Lee Troutman is accused
of kidnapping and murdering 9-year-old Skyler Kauffman.
At the time of Troutman’s arrest, Castillo spoke with reporters
several times.

Castillo said he saw Skyler shortly before she disappeared that
day and warned her to listen to her mother, “ ... cause she’s a kid
she doesn’t always listen.” He also told the newspaper that when he
came home and saw all the police cars he called Skyler’s mom, who
told him she was missing.
