NEWTON FALLS - A Southington woman who was an employee of a Newton Falls daycare center was indicted on murder charges in the June death of a 3-month-old boy.
Sarah Kaiser, 29, 4836 McConnell East Road, Southington, is scheduled to be arraigned today on charges of felony murder, second-degree felonious assault and second-degree felony child endangering.
Kaiser was secretly indicted Thursday on the charges and will appear before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Peter J. Kontos at 10 a.m. today. She was booked into the county jail at 6:05 p.m. Thursday.
Kaiser is accused of being responsible for the June 6 death of Jacob F. Culp of Newton Falls.
Her attorney, John Long, said Kaiser has worked at the daycare center for about 10 years and that the employees and clergy there fully support her. Calls placed later in the day Thursday to the church and to the family were not returned.
Police at the time said Culp stopped breathing at the Church of God Day Care Center, 426 W. Broad St., on June 1. Officers reported the baby was unresponsive and turned blue.
Officers gave compressions, used a defibrillator, and both Newton Falls police Chief John Kuivila and EMS personnel gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Culp was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital and flown to Akron Children's Hospital, where he died five days later.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide. Their report said Culp died because of a lack of oxygen to the brain due to blunt force cranial trauma.
At the time, First Church of God pastor Arnold Edmondson told Tribune newspartner WYTV 33 that Culp
hadn't been feeling well that morning and workers kept a close eye on him. The boy was a recent daycare enrollee and was dropped off that day for the first time since May 26.
Jacob Culp was the son of Jonathan P. Jr. and Jennifer M. Culp, of Newton Falls, according to his obituary.

Trumbull Flag Raised for Murdered Infant
The Trumbull County Parents of Murdered Children raised a flag Wednesday afternoon in memory of a 3-month-old baby who was murdered in June.
Family and friends of Jacob Culp were at the ceremony at Courthouse Square and watched as the flag was raised in his honor. The child died in June at a daycare in Newton Falls.
Sarah Kaiser, a former daycare worker, has been charged with his death. She has pleaded not
guilty and will be back in court next month.
Those at the ceremony said they want everyone to remember Jacob as a wonderful, happy baby.
"Give support to the families and surround them in our arms and tell them that we are here and will fight to stop this violence on children," said Trumbull County Victim Advocate Miriam Fife.
The flag will remain flying until next week. A similar flag also will fly at the Newton Falls Police Department.
