PASCAGOULA -- A Gautier man will spend 15 years in
prison for felony child abuse of a 7-month-old boy who suffered head
trauma after being shaken, according to the Jackson County District
Attorney’s Office.
Duong Quoc Le, 30, pleaded guilty Monday before
Circuit Court Judge Robert Krebs. The judge sentenced Le to 25 years in
prison, with 15 years to serve day-for-day, 10 years suspended and five
years of post-release supervision.
Authorities said Le caused the
injuries over several hours beginning the evening of May 7, 2009, and
ending in the early-morning hours of May 8, 2009. Le was babysitting at
the time.
“The resilience and strength this child and his family has shown
is incredible,” Assistant District Attorney Angel Myers said. “It is
truly a miracle that he survived and has thrived like he has.”
Le was taken into custody after entering the plea Monday.
“This
defendant’s actions had tragic consequences that will affect this child
for the rest of his life,” District Attorney Tony Lawrence said. “I
commend the work of the Child Protection Unit. Their hard work,
dedication and specialized training are what brought about the result we
saw today in court.”
Lawrence created the Child Protection Unit as a means to protect children and prosecute those who victimize them.

15 years is not enough for almost shaking a baby to death and causing permanent damage. He should have gotten the full 25 years.
