Search and rescue crews were still searching Tuesday evening for a Cowlitz County teenager who left a note with his parents saying he was going camping for the week.

On Monday, Cowlitz County Sheriff's Deputies began searching for 15-year-old Evan Byman in wooded areas around Harmony Creek, Eufala Heights, Haryu Road and off the end of Mill Creek Road west of Longview.

An eyewitness told investigators he saw two boys, one matching Byman's description, walking at the end of Mill Creek Road around 10 a.m. Monday, the sheriff's office said in a statement. The boys said they were on a day hike, according to the witness.

Byman, whose note told his parents not to come looking for him, is described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 145 pounds with shaved blond hair and blue eyes. He may be wearing black rubber boots and carrying a 12-gauge shotgun and a sleeping bag, the sheriff's office said.

To help, call Crime Stoppers at 360-577-1206.

Evan Byman, a 15-year-old West Longview boy who has been the
focus of a three-day search, returned home on his own Thursday
morning and is good health and condition, according to the Cowlitz
County Sheriff's Office.
His family called authorities just before 8 a.m. to report that he
had returned safely home and was not in need of medical treatment.
Evan told deputies that he had built a shelter and camped in a
wooded area at the end of Eufala Heights Road and had been unaware
of that searchers had been looking for him for the last three days.
Evan had left home Jan. 24 after leaving a note to his parents
saying he was going camping for a week. Monday, sheriff's deputies
started searching for him in the area of Eufala Heights, Haryu Road
and Mill Creek Road.
"The Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office is very happy that Evan is
home safe and everything turned out alright," Chief Deputy Corey
Huffine said in a written statement. "We have a great group
volunteers who dropped everything to help look for Evan, and I
would like to thank them and the local citizens who took the time
to call in and help us during the search."
A call to the Byman home was not returned.
