Baby's Throat Cut, Mom Jailed
A Camden County woman is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action after deputies found her early Saturday holding her bleeding child in her arms near her home.
The 9-month-old child's throat had been cut, according to Camden County investigators.
Bradie Simpson, 39, was charged with Monday.
According a probable cause statement filed by the Camden County Sheriff's Department, Simpson was found just after midnight in a wooded area near her Camdenton home. Her child was "unresponsive and covered in blood," according to court documents.
Both Simpson and the baby were taken to the hospital.
A later search of Simpson's home also uncovered two metal spoons and a plastic baggie. One of the spoons had residue on it that later tested positive for heroin.

CAMDENTON, Mo. -- Police say a baby girl, whose throat was slit, has
been released from the hospital. The Camden County Sheriff's office
says the child is now in the protective custody of the Juvenile Court
Authority.
The baby's mother is charged with nearly killing the
9-month-old girl. Bradie Simpson, 39, is charged with first-degree
assault and armed criminal action. Simpson is still in the hospital,
recovering from an injury to the throat, but her condition has been
upgraded to good. The tragic events last weekend came a few months
after an episode at a church, where Simpson pleaded for help.Deputies
had no idea where the night would lead at Simpson's rural home
southeast of Macks Creek. It started with Simpson's 911 call at 10 p.m.
Friday, about an attempted burglary and a gunshot at a home next door.
"We talked to the lady and everything was good when they left there the first time," said Camden County Sheriff Dwight Franklin.
Two-and-a-half
hours later, Simpson's adult son called 911, saying she and the baby
girl were missing. Deputies found a bloody knife in the bedroom.
"They immediately went outside and started searching for the baby and the mother," said Franklin.
Three-and-a-half
hours later, and after searching several acres of woods, officers found
the mother and baby lying on the ground; the baby girl was covered in
her own blood. Her throat had been cut, and deputies first thought she
was dead.
"The baby raised its head,
indicated it was still alive. A deputy immediately snatched it up,
applied pressure to it, covered it up and ran back to the ambulance with
it," said Franklin.
The little girl had to have emergency
surgery. "It's a miracle it's alive. I think God had something to do
with that," Franklin said.

A Camden County woman went to the pastor of the First Baptist Church of
Camdenton in October and handed over her infant daughter, saying that
she was possessed and she feared she was going to hurt the child. On
February 4, the woman apparently proved her premonition true.
A day earlier, Bradie R. Simpson, 39, called the police to her
mobile home claiming her neighbor had shot himself. The neighbor was
fine, and the police left. Several hours later, sheriff's deputies were
called back again, this time by Simpson's son. He told them his mother
had disappeared, and that there was a bloody knife in the bedroom.
Police searched the area, and discovered a grisly scene in the woods according to the probable cause statement.
the trailer and found no signs of break-in or struggle. They did find
two metal spoons and a small baggie containing heroin residue in
Simpson's bedroom.
The child was in critical condition at a local hospital as of Sunday. Simpson remains in custody.

approximately 225 feet from the residence. As Deputies approached
Simpson they observed her to be holding (child's name redacted). They

Deputies attempted to communicate with Simpson, asking her several times
what happened. Simpson was conscious and appeared alert but did not
respond. Deputies were able to identify at least one lacerated injury
crossing (the child's) throat and immediately took (the child) from
Simpson for the purpose of emergency medical attention. Simpson also had
what appeared to be a lacerated wound on her neck and was escorted to
