"Newborn Jane" HARPER-GARCIA - 2 Months/ Accused: Parents - Gastonia NC

A Gastonia man and woman have been charged with child abuse on
Friday. The incident happened to the couple’s 2-month-old girl that left
her hospitalized for 2 weeks.

Twenty-one year old Benjamin George Harper IV and 19-year-old Diana
Garcia are accused of causing a skull and rib fractures and brain
bleeding on their child.

When the infant was admitted to the hospital, she was reported as to
having five old and new rib fractures, a skull fracture, and bleeding
from the brain according to an arrest warrant.

Doctors have stated that the infant suffered two separate brain injuries and at least two separate rib injuries.

The parents were reported to have admitted to one instance where
Garcia picked up the infant but Harper didn’t want her to hold the
infant, ‘so he grabbed the infant very hard around her rib area to
snatch her away’ from Garcia. Garcia was trying to hold onto the infant
at the same time. Harper got the infant away and threw the baby into a
swing. This was the confession in an official police report.


It has been determined this has happened on more than one occasion.

The charges were made against Harper and Garcia on Friday with
regards to intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury and
intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.

They are currently being held at the Gaston County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond each.
