"Newborn John" PADILLA-IBARRA - 4 Months/ Accused: Parents - Boise ID
An Ada County infant who local health officials determined
has suspicious bruises on his face, arms and abdomen -- and two broken
ribs -- has been taken into the care of the state, and his parents have
been arrested on felony child abuse charges.
Gina M. Padilla, 26, and Jeffrey L. Ibarra, 27, who live in unincorporated Ada County, were
arrested on warrants Thursday and booked into the Ada County Jail.
They were both arraigned Friday.
Padilla remains in custody on a $25,000 bond, and Ibarra is being held on $75,000 bond.
The investigation into possible abuse of the child began after the couple
took the child to a Boise doctor on Tuesday. The physician did not
believe the child's injuries were consistent with the information
provided by his parents, so he notified the Ada County Sheriff's Office.
The 4-month-old male was transferred to St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center,
where doctors confirmed the child's visible injuries and diagnosed the
two broken ribs. The St. Luke's physicians indicated that one fracture
appeared to have occurred more than a week ago, and the other fracture
was more recent.
The sheriff's office says investigators
determined that the child had not been in the care of anyone but his
parents. The child was placed into the protective custody of the Idaho
Department of Health & Welfare.
