Abducted girls in Amber Alert found safe, suspect still on loose

SHORELINE, Wash. -- The Amber Alert for two young
girls abducted by their mother in Shoreline early Thursday was canceled
after the children were located unharmed with a relative. The suspect,
Doreen Starrish, still remains at large.
The Amber Alert was issued after Starrish, 28, allegedly stabbed the
girls' father at their Shoreline home early Thursday, then fled with
their daughters, ages 7 and 3.
Starrish is described as Native American, 5'8" tall, about 170 lbs with brown eyes.
Around 8:20 a.m. Thursday, detectives were called to a house in the
1500 block of NE 190th Street, where Starrish, the girls' father and the
two children lived. After an argument, Starrish allegedly stabbed the
victim in the chest, grabbed the children and took off in a 2000 silver
Lincoln Navigator with Washington license plate ABK0976.
Around 1:20 p.m., Seattle police officers spotted a man driving the
Lincoln Navigator near Lake City Way and NE 140th Street and stopped the
vehicle; however, neither the suspect nor the two children were inside.
The driver told police he had picked up the suspect with the two
children and dropped them off at a McDonald's at NE 205th and 15th
Avenue NE. He said another friend picked them up in a black Cadillac
STS. King County sheriff's deputies were searching for the black
Cadillac STS.
..
The girls' father, Aaron Smith, was transported to Harborview Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.
Friends and neighbors in Shoreline said the couple often fought and it was a troubled home.
"Never once could they get along for more than an hour," said Brooklyn Jones, friend of Starrish.
Jones said Starrish and her ex had a rocky relationship and that Starrish endured years of abuse.
"I think it was built-up anger, hatred and rage towards the physical, emotional and mental abuse," said Jones.
If you see the suspect, you are asked to not approach her; instead call 911 immediately.

A Shoreline man who was stabbed in the chest Thursday — allegedly by
his former girlfriend, who has since disappeared — has died.
A
nursing supervisor at Harborview Medical Center, where Aaron Smith had
been taken with critical injuries, confirmed Sunday that Smith was dead.
She would not say when he died, except that it was before Sunday.
Smith’s
ex-girlfriend, 28-year-old Doreen Starrish, is a suspect in his death.
Police say that after the stabbing Starrish left with the couple’s 7-
and 3-year-old daughters, triggering an Amber Alert. The alert was
lifted after the girls were found with a relative later Thursday, but
Starrish has not been found.
Anyone who has information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the King County Sheriff’s Office or call 911.

Man stabbed during Amber Alert kidnapping dies
Published: May 6, 2012 at 5:03 PM PDT
SHORELINE, Wash. - A man has died just days after he was stabbed in the
chest and his children abducted in an incident that triggered an Amber Alert.
Officials at Harborview Medical Center confirmed Sunday that stabbing victim Aaron Smith has died.
Police say Smith was stabbed Thursday by his ex-girlfriend, Doreen
Starrish, at his home on NE 190th Street. She then left with the
couple's 7- and 3-year-old daughters, triggering an Amber Alert.
The Amber Alert was cancelled several hours later after the children
were dropped off with a relative. The girls remain in protective custody.
Starrish remains on the run and likely faces increased charges when she is caught, now that Smith has died of his stab wounds.
"We would encourage our suspect to turn herself in," King County
Sheriff's spokeswoman Sgt. Katie Larsen said earlier. "It's only a
matter of time before we find her, and I'm sure she probably has a great
deal she wants to tell us."
Doreen Starrish has an extensive police record, including drug offenses and assault.
Anyone who has information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the King County Sheriff's Office or call 911.

Woman in Shoreline slaying, Amber Alert, pleads for bail reduction
SEATTLE —
A
Shoreline woman charged with stabbing and killing the father of her two
children and then sparking an Amber Alert pleaded with a judge to get
out of jail.
Doreen Starrish was back in court on Tuesday, hoping to convince a judge to reduce her bail from $1 million to $10,000.
Her
attorney said Starrish was defending herself when she attacked her
ex-boyfriend, Aaron Smith, and then fled with their children in May.
Prosecutors and Smith’s family insist the evidence shows otherwise.
Starrish was on the run for several days before she turned herself in.
She is charged with first-degree murder.
The judge said she'll review the bail request and make a decision in the coming weeks.
