A 19-year-old UC Davis student went missing on Tuesday, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

Linnea Lomax was last seen at about 1 p.m. Tuesday on the 800 block of Howe Avenue in Sacramento. Lomax's father told KCRA
that his daughter had a nervous breakdown during finals. She was
checked into Sutter Health psychiatric hospital, but was later released
"on an outpatient basis," according to KCRA.

Her father said that she went for a walk and has not been seen since.

A Facebook page has been launched in hopes of helping find Lomax.

She is considered to be at-risk due to her disappearance being
inconsistent with her normal behavior patterns, according to a Sheriff's
Department release.

Police said Lomax is 5-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs about 100 lbs.
She has long, blonde hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing a dark
blue hooded sweatshirt and green pants.

Anyone who may have seen Lomax is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115

Family and friends of a missing 19-year-old woman have updated their description of the clothes she was last seen wearing.

Linnea Lomax, a Placerville resident who has been missing in
Sacramento County since Tuesday, was wearing a black sweat shirt with
"Sweden" written in red on the front and green pants, her family said.
She was also wearing flip-flops.

She is described as 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 100
pounds. She has long, curly blond hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.

Acquaintances said Lomax suffered a breakdown while studying
for finals at the University of California, Davis, where she is a
freshman.

She received inpatient treatment at a facility for 10 days,
but disappeared in the middle of her first day of outpatient treatment.

Lomax is believed to be scared, off her psychiatric medications and without a wallet or cellphone, family and friends said.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to
call the Sheriff's Department at (916) 874-5115. Her family and friends
ask that anyone who sees her not try to make contact with her, as she
has run from several people who tried to talk to her.

The family and friends of a missing Sacramento teenager offered a
$5,000.00 reward Friday, to the person who brings Linnea Lomax home.
Lomax, 19, was last seen Tuesday, June 26th, on the 800 block of Howe
Avenue, in Sacramento, when she left an outpatient therapy center.

According to the founders of website, www.findlinnea.org, Lomax is
at-risk because her disappearance is inconsistent with her normal
behavior. They say Lomax is an immediate danger to herself without her
medications.

The teen's full name is Linnea Noel Lomax. Before she disappeared,
she was a student at U.C. Davis college. Lomax is 5'2", she weighs 100
pounds and has blonde hair and blue eyes.

Lomax was last seen wearing dark hooded sweatshirt that says
"Sweden," very baggy blue jeans, very unkempt frizzy hair wore down, and
carrying a very large bag.

The reward for information in the case of missing teen
Linnea Lomax has increased to $10,000, according to volunteers with the
search effort.

Lomax, a 19-year-old from Placerville, has been missing since she
walked away from an out-patient mental health facility on Howe Avenue on
June 26. Her family said she was getting treatment after having a
mental breakdown while studying for finals at the University of California, Davis.

The most recent possible sightings were reported in Woodland,
volunteers report, though she earlier was believed to have been seen
near the American River Parkway in Sacramento.

Linnea is 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs about 100 pounds and has
curly, long blonde hair. She was last seen wearing green pants, a black
sweatshirt with "Sweden" in red letters and flip flops. She has no
medication, wallet or phone with her.

On Thursday, her parents, Craig and Marianne Lomax, released an open
letter to their daughter expressing their pain and asking that she send
them notice that she is safe.

"We love you every second of every day and are praying for you," they wrote in the letter, which can be read in its entirety at www.sacbee.com/links. "We long for the day that we know you are safe."

Linnea Lomax, a student at UC Davis
and a native of Placerville, has been missing since June 26, when her
parents went to pick up her up from an outpatient facility on Howe
Avenue in Sacramento. Her parents asked that this letter be published in
their attempt to contact their daughter and ensure she is safe.

Dear Linnea,
We
love you beyond what words can express. We have cherished you from your
first breath and our affection has only increased with each day. We
never imagined loving anyone as much as we love you and your brother and
sister. No matter what happens, our love for you will not falter. We
will never stop loving you passionately. Never.

Our best memories are filled with you. 19 years of absolute enjoyment
coming from your compassionate character, your skills and your
joy-filled personality. Our thoughts are filled with thousands of
beautiful images of you: bakery runs, private piano recitals, the "donut
hotel," singing "concerts" in the dishline at camp, hikes on mountains
and through rivers, lazy summer days, Gram's playhouse, the RV trip, the
summer house, playing in the ocean surf, baking sessions, you yelling at your sister when she cheats at board games,
"training" the dog... the happy memories are seemingly endless. You
have given us so much to be thankful for: we look back and love it all.
We
love your past and look forward to your future. You are so special to
us and we want to be by your side through the best and worst of times.
We have so much hope for your future, and for our future together.
The
last 14 days have been the most difficult days of our lives. The pain
of not knowing if you are okay is unbearable. If you are able, please,
please let us know where you are. The greatest gift you could give us
would be to communicate to us that you are safe. Also, we hope you
understand that it would be our honor and delight to stand with you as
you work toward having hope again. We are on your team forever.
We
will never stop thinking about you, and wanting to hear from you, not
even for a moment. We believe that nothing can separate you from the
love of God. We hope you know that nothing can change our love for you, either.
We love you every second of every day and are praying for you. We long for the day that we know you are safe.
- Mom and Dad.
(Marianne and Craig Lomax)

Linnea Lomax: Sheriff Believes She's still Alive

Kate Eby and Ian McDonald FOX40 News
3:27 p.m. PDT, July 26, 2012

EL DORADO COUNTY -- Thursday marks one month since the disappearance of Linnea Lomax, a 19-year-old student from UC Davis, and the sheriff of El Dorado County believes she's still alive.

“Somebody out there knows where Linnea is. We just wanna make sure she’s O.K.,” El Dorado County Sheriff John Dagostini said Thursday.

Lomax was last seen in June, when she disappeared from a counseling center in Sacramento. She was receiving treatment following a stress-related breakdown.

“It’s a nightmare not to know where your daughter is at,” said Lomax’s mother, Marianne.

Lomax is considered to be at risk and needs regular medication.

Despite a vigil in Lomax’s hometown of Placerville and a Facebook campaign that’s gained almost 6,000 followers, her disappearance remains a mystery.

“I do, I do (believe Lomax is still alive), and I’ll believe that until, worst case scenario, we find out otherwise,” said Sheriff Dagostini.

Investigators are continuing to monitor Lomax’s personal Facebook page, but have not seen any activity. Lomax also left her cell phone behind when she disappeared.

A benefit concert is scheduled for Aug. 5 at the Cold Springs Community Church in Placerville. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. For more information, visit HelpFindLennea.com.

Anyone with information about Lomax’s whereabouts is urged to call the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 621-6600.

Notebook discovered in search belongs to missing coed

UPDATE: A notebook belonging to missing UC Davis student Linnea Lomax was found just off the American River Bike Trail, her family announced at a press conference this afternoon.

This was the first solid lead since her disappearance June 26, said Craig Lomax, the girl's father.

The notebook was found near the Sutter Medical Center outpatient facility on Howe Avenue where the 19-year-old Placerville woman was last seen. She was receiving treatment after having a mental breakdown while studying for finals, her father said.

The evidence has been turned over to police, but Lomax confirmed it belonged to his daughter. "I saw the handwriting on the notebook," he said. "It was Linnea's."

The notebook was found during a search by 250 volunteers over the weekend.

The KlaasKids Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to finding missing children, joined in the search. The Sausalito-based group was founded by Marc Klaas, whose daughter Polly was kidnapped and murdered in 1993. "You shouldn't have to reinvent the wheel every time," Klaas said.

The foundation's Director of Search Operations Brad Dennis came from Florida to aid in the search. "We're doing a very thorough grid search," Dennis said.

"After seven weeks, we finally got a ground zero," Klaas said of Sunday's breakthrough.

Lomax said that as far as he knows, Linnea is alive. "I hope she's still alive, but I also have to believe every tip, theory and lead," he said.

The search has taken a toll on the family. In addition to Linnea, the Lomax's also have a son and daughter who are still in high school. "We're maintaining the search, but we also have to maintain life," Lomax said. "We still have to be mom and dad."

The number of rumors circulating, coupled with the time the case has dragged on, is challenging the viability of the search, Lomax said. "I'm not going to stop looking for her until I can confirm she's safe," he said at the press conference.

The family plans to organize another search Sept. 8. Anyone who wants to help or has information about the whereabouts of Linnea Lomax is asked to visit helpfindlinnea.org.

- Richard Chang

Linnea is 5 feet, 2 inches tall, weighs about 100 pounds and has curly, long blond hair. She was last seen wearing green pants, a black sweat shirt with "Sweden" in red letters and flip-flops. She has no medication, wallet or phone with her.

Her parents have launched a full-scale effort to find her, asking that she communicate to them that she is safe.

Last month, the reward for the missing teen was increased to $10,000. Contrary to earlier reports of sightings of Lomax in the weeks after she left the mental health facility, today's press announcement of her disappearance says she has not been seen since she walked away from the center.

"We had some sightings that we thought were pretty good at the beginning. We've since ruled those out," said Amanda Ernst, a spokeswoman for the search effort.

Linnea Lomax Missing: Search Intensifies For California College Student

09/04/2012
The search will resume on Friday for California college student Linnea Lomax, who has been missing since June.

"The KlaasKids Foundation is coming back to complete searching areas
along the Sacramento River -- areas they previously wanted to search,"
Lomax family spokeswoman Amanda Ernst told The Huffington Post.

Brad Dennis, director of search operations for KlaasKids,
is asking volunteers to report to 2440 Glendale Lane in Sacramento
between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sept. 7, 8, and 9. Dennis and his
associates will be leading a massive ground search for clues in the
case.

Lomax, a 19-year-old student at the University of California, Davis, was last seen
at an outpatient clinic on Howe Ave. in Sacramento on June 26. She was
at the clinic for an all-day visit, but she walked out for lunch and
never came back, Lomax's friend, Heidi Hutchison, told The Huffington
Post.

According to Hutchison, Lomax recently suffered a mental breakdown
while studying for finals. The young woman spent more than a week at a
treatment facility, but was released for outpatient therapy after she
showed progress.

Lomax, a 2011 graduate of El Dorado High School in Placerville,
Calif., had just completed her freshman year at UC Davis in June. She
has a 4.0 grade point average and is studying human development, with
the intent of pursuing a degree in nursing.
Lomax's parents operate Rock-N-Water Christian
camp in Northern California. According to the organization's website,
the purpose of the camp is to "experience the joy of God's living word
through adventures in the outdoors." Lomax has worked at the camp for
the past several summers as a counselor for teens.

Multiple searches have been conducted for Lomax, and late last month authorities received their first solid lead when a notebook belonging to her was found
near the American River bike trail. The location is not far from the
medical center where she was receiving treatment, police said.

Craig Lomax, Lienna Lomax's father, confirmed that the notebook belonged to his daughter.

"I saw the handwriting on the notebook. It was Linnea's," he said at an Aug. 19 press conference.

According to Ernst, authorities still have the notebook.

"They are still processing it," she said. "They have not said what, if anything, was found in it."

Individuals who would like to participate in the next search must be
at least 18 years old and must bring a photo ID. It is recommended that
volunteers wear sturdy shoes, long pants and long sleeves. Volunteers
should also bring gloves, walking sticks and backpacks to carry water.

Linnea Lomax is white, 5 foot 2 inches tall and weighs approximately
100 pounds. She has long blond hair and blue eyes and was last seen
wearing green pants and a dark blue hooded sweatshirt that says "Sweden"
in red letters.

A $10,000 reward is being offered to anyone who provides information
that directly leads to the safe return of Lomax to her family or to the
custody of law enforcement. Anyone with information is asked to contact
the Sacramento Sheriff's Department at 916-564-2215 or by calling
916-905-HELP. Those interested in helping search for the missing teen
can find information at Facebook.com/HelpFindLinnea or at HelpFindLinnea.org.

pray Linnea Lomax searchers find body along American River

SACRAMENTO, CA - Authorities confirm a female body was found near the American River in Glenn Hall Park near Sacramento State on Friday morning.

Searchers looking for 19-year-old Linnea Lomax came upon the decomposing remains. Lomax is UC Davis student who disappeared after leaving an outpatient treatment facility on Howe Avenue on June 26. There have been numerous searches for the young woman.

There has been no identification of the body. It was discovered in a riparian area at about 10:18 a.m.

The HelpFindLinnea website posted the following message:

On behalf of the Lomax family, we wish to thank the community for the support they have given in the continuing search for Linnea. At this time, we are aware that human remains have been found today in the Sacramento area. Until these remains have been identified by law enforcement, we do not know if they are Linnea's. As long as this question remains unanswered, we will be continuing with the search efforts. We appreciate your prayers, support and your respect for the privacy of the Lomax family during this difficult time.

Crying or Very sad
Update: Death of woman found by river 'not suspicious,' police say
By: By Sam Stanton
Published: Fri, 09/07 @ 12:18PM

The death of a woman found along the American River near River Park this morning does not appear to be suspicious at this point, Sacramento police said shortly before 2 p.m. today.

Officer Doug Morse told reporters gathered at the scene where the body was found that there is no evidence of foul play yet. Authorities are investigating whether the body is that of Linnea Lomax, a 19-year-old UC Davis student who has been missing since June.

The Lomax family and volunteers were searching the area this morning when members of the group spotted the body and called police at 10:18 a.m.

Crime scene investigators, the coroner's office and law enforcement chaplains have been summoned to the scene across the river from the Campus Commons golf course, as have homicide investigators.

The body is that of a woman and shows signs of decomposition, officials said. They cannot yet tell how old the woman was.

Poster's note: When I read about the notebook being found so close to where she was last seen I thought how sad that it took so
long when it was so nearby. Apparently along a bike trail, a hiker's path near a river -it sure seems like the logical place to first begin a search. Linnea loved nature, hiking, camping and so it would be (IMHO of course) the very most reasonable starting point.
This may not be Linnea, but this dear soul belongs to someone, and it just baffles my mind to try and understand why the police didn't search along this path at the very beginning. My prayers are for the family of this deceased woman; it'sjust so very sad that she was not found two+ months ago.

Lomax's mom, dad, say teen killed herself near American River

UPDATED 7:14 PM PDT Sep 11, 2012

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) — The searcher who found Linnea Lomax's body last week turned out to be the teen's mother.

The parents of the once-missing UC Davis student held a news conference Tuesday to confirm details on what happened to their daughter.

Lomax had been missing since June 26. On Friday, her body was spotted just south of Glenn Hall Park in East Sacramento, near the American River.

Lomax's parents said Linnea committed suicide by hanging from a tree.

The last time she was seen, the 19-year-old was leaving an outpatient therapy center on Howe Avenue in Sacramento.

The news conference Tuesday took place at Cold Springs Community Church, in Placerville.
