Father punishes infant daughter for being fussy by burning more than 40 per cent of her body
20:04 EST, 16 October 2012
Pennsylvania man Jorge Colon is facing multiple felony charges after police say he
scalded his infant daughter for being fussy in her bath.
'I have been a police officer for 38 years, this is one of the worst cases
of child abuse I have ever seen in Chester County,' Oxford Police Chief
John Slauch told reporters.
Colon, 20, of Oxford was arrested after his infant daughter was treated at a
local hospital Saturday for first and second degree burns covering over
40 per cent of her body.
Charged: Police say Jorge Colon burned over 40 percent of her infant daughter's body for being fussy during her bath
Police say the baby remains in critical condition at the Burn Unit at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
Colon is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering the welfare of a child.
Colon was allegedly bathing his one-month-old daughter, Kiara, a bath when
the child was burned from the right side from her neck to her right foot.
When questioned, police say Colon told them Kiara had been collicky for almost a month and had become particularly irritable.
He went on to say that when Kiara began to fuss during the bath he got angry and turned up the temperature from warm to hot.
When the child began to scream he took her out of the scalding bath.
Police say Kiara's mother, who they have not identified, was in the shower during the incident.
By the time Kiara's mother had entered the room the skin had already peeled off the infant's body.
Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan told reporters he was outraged.
“As a father I am deeply disturbed and saddened by anybody who would essentially torture their own child,” Hogan said.
Colon is being at the Chester County prison on $125,000 bail.

If the SOB had taken her out of the water immediately as he claims, her burns would not be so severe.
Too bad he can't receive the same treatment as this newborn baby.
