Judge doesn't decide on Anthony change of venue motion
Hearing to determine where trial will be held
UPDATED 5:24 PM EDT Oct 30, 2012
ORLANDO, Fla. — A judge decided not to make a decision on a motion in a civil lawsuit against Casey Anthony in Orange County.
Judge Lisa Munyon held a hearing about whether to change the venue for Anthony's civil trial. She may rule at a later date.
Anthony’s lawyers said a trial in Orange County would not be a fair one. They say the area was “saturated” with media coverage of Anthony’s murder trial, which they believe will cause bias against her.
Anthony attorney Charles Greene said the trial should be moved north where there's been less publicity to Tallahassee, Jacksonville or Pensacola or possibly Gainesville or Ocala.
Lawyers filed a motion to have the trial moved. They do not want juror from another area brought to Orange County, similar to the 2011 murder trial.
Zenaida Gonzalez' attorneys said they have no objection to the trial being moved as long as Anthony picks up the associated costs of moving it. They do object to the move if taxpayers are burdened with the bill.
Gonzalez is suing Anthony for defamation. She said Anthony’s claim that a nanny by the same name kidnapped her daughter, Caylee, ruined her life.
Anthony was acquitted of first-degree murder in July 2011. She served a year’s probation in an unrelated check fraud case in an unknown location.
