Troy Father charged in death of 3-month-old daughter
Kenneth Michael Little, 25
Three-month-old Kendalyn Little
TROY, Mich. (WJBK) -
Kenneth Michael Little of Troy, charged with open murder
and involuntary manslaughter, accused of killing his baby girl,
3-month-old Kendalynne. Her death ruled a homicide due to blunt force
trauma.
Police are still investigating this case but say they were called to
the home on Stratford around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning. Both the child's
mother and father had called 911. The mother, wasn't home but told
police she had received a call from Little saying something was wrong
with their baby.
Defense attorney Richard Lustig told reporters, "he came home from work and this all happened."
The 25-year-old Little had allegedly arrived home from his job as a
security guard to find the child crying, by the time paramedics arrived
the baby was lying on the basement floor. They tried CPR, but the child
was dead.
FOX 2 has learned the baby spent the first month of her life in the
hospital because she was born premature. A week after she was released
she was readmitted with a head injury. Sources say the autopsy shows
other signs of serious injuries in her short life.
But Little's sisters, father, the baby's mother and her friends all stand by Little.
His attorney does not believe his client is to blame for the baby's
death. "I'm not sure they have the right person" Lustig said. "There
were 12 people living in that house. The baby can be injured by another
person other than a parent." Richard Lustig says the baby had been
crying for over a week and may have been injured possibly kicked by
another child and he says there could be video to support that.
"I understand that when some of the brutality occurred with the
child, it wasn't done by my client - that there is possibly a videotape
from a store that would show that" Lustig said.
Little has an 18-month-old son who is now with his parents. Little
was ordered held without bond pending a hearing Monday morning.

Troy Man Accused of Murdering Infant Daughter Has History of Mental Disease, Attorney Says
Judge orders competency exam for Kenneth Michael Little, who is charged with killing his 3-month-old daughter.
October 30, 2012
A competency exam was ordered yesterday by Judge William Bolle for Troy resident Kenneth Michael Little, 25, who was charged Thursday with killing his 3-month-old daughter.
Little faces homicide-open murder and involuntary manslaughter
charges following his daughter’s death on Oct. 22. An autopsy conducted
Oct. 23 revealed Kendalyn Elizabeth-Rose Little’s cause of death was
homicide by blunt force trauma.
Little, who works as a security guard and has no criminal history, entered a plea of not guilty.
A competency evaluation determines a defendant’s ability to
understand his legal situation. Defense attorney Richard Lustig said the
testing is necessary because of Little’s history of mental disease and
to make sure he comprehends the proceedings.
When Bolle asked Little if he understands what he’s accused of,
Little mumbled, “for doing something...” Bolle then interrupted Little
and said, “Do you understand the charge?” Little said yes.
On Oct. 22, officers responding to a 911 call about an "unresponsive" baby just after 2 a.m. were met outside the Troy home by the hysterical mother, who directed officers to the basement of the home.
Officers found the infant "lying on a rug on the floor of the bedroom
with the father standing several feet away," a media release from the
police department stated. Alliance Ambulance medical personnel arrived
with the officers, picked up Kendalyn, began CPR and immediately
transported her to St. John's Hospital Oakland. She was pronounced dead
at 3:04 a.m.
Lustig told WXYZ news that there were several other people in the home when Kendayln died, including another child, an active 18-month-old.
